As for me, I made a whole two hundred dollars as a "field unit producer" for the Florida episode and that almost covered my gas and food expenses. wink.gif

Should of gotten "yerself" an Agent. wink.gif

Everyone has their own Method of doing things. Only time will tell what method or methods work. I'm
inclind to believe there is no right method. I think it boils down to being at the right place at the right time.
Patteson spent most of his adult life seeking Answers. Look how long it took him. His method was just horseback and camera's. Its not that this method worked; its just he was in the Right Place at the Right Time. You can have all the right Methods known to man. WIthout Time or Chance... What good are the Methods?

Yes, I would agree, but you can also hedge your bet. All creatures of high intellect
have a common trait.....curiousity. Using the right method, and maybe more importantly, try to come up with ways to drive him crazy with curiousity, make him want to find you, instead of the other way around. This approach worked all to well for me once, but I was totally unprepared to record and ducument the outcome. I am prepared now though......several thousands of dollars later.

If my new gear doesn't work, I can become a spy or PI.

Just wearing my meanyhead hat a second(someone has to do it).
I will make as "certain" a comment here about one aspect of this, as is possible.
Bigfoot does NOT know what a camera is, is NOT afraid of them, and is NOT reading our thoughts.
Hiding a camera in your hat may look cool..and fwiw, it may well be a good idea from a conviences standpoint....(in the same sense that head mounted lights are convenient). But..putting your camera in your hat is NOT going to fool a sasquatch into letting you film it(although, the lack of instant controll, may well spell doom if the chance everh arises for you..)..and "clearing your thoughts" of them..well..maybe it'll make you forget what you are in the woods for..but any local "target species" is not going to know an iota of difference.
If you think otherwise...lots of "interesting" sites are willing to consider your theory..but expect some strong opposition here.
This "theory" has gone round and round..and makes all of us involved in research look positively silly to the outside world.
The curiosity idea, has validity I believe, and is worth exploring. But the idea that they are psychic mind readers with an advanced degree in photography from the sasquatch school of human avoidance..well, you might look to the "other" forums for a sympathetic ear on that one.

There's one idea that's on the borderline: that Bigfoot can smell metal. Loren Coleman put forward this objection when I advocated the use of helmet-mounted cameras (for convenience--i.e., instant readiness, via a shutter-cable running down the shirtsleeve). Similarly, Ivan Sanderson, in an article titled "Suggestions for the Obtaining of Larger Zoological Specimens ...", reprinted as Apx. 1 in Chad Arment's Cryptozoology, p. 349, wrote: "The objective is to get rid of as much metal as possible and all mineral oils. Even belt buckles, cigarette lighters, and other such small items can make a great difference." (Despite this he advocated carrying a shotgun.)

Sanderson also wrote, "Aluminum is far better than iron, as it does not have anything like the odor even when corroded," and "Most thermoplastics are inert and odorless." If cameras are mostly plastic and aluminum, there shouldn't be any problem with odor from them--especially if they are protected from the wind by being contained in a hat or helmet. And especially if they are very small, like a HuntCam or Deja View.

Other animals can.

Trappers know to boil their traps and even scent and wax them.

Huntster...I fully admit I may be wrong here..but I don't think it's the raw metal smell of traps that effects animals. If it were...boiling, even waxing them, would have no effect(waxing cannot cover all metal...and boiling would not change the fact that they ARE Metal.). I think boiling/waxing, and other scent elimination programs are removing latent human scent...NOT the smell of metal.(not saying metal has not smell...it does).
I think IF things are detecting cameras..its a similar situation..they are doing so by detecting remnant(or not so remnant), human odor, not that of metal. The one exeption may be film. IT has been shown that bear can smell the film in cameras(likely the jelatin used in its production)....so perhaps if a large primate got close enough, it could also smell that. However....while I know that we cannot rule out an amazing sense of smell...no other large ape has that to a great degree...so it may even be a stretch to attribute that to sasquatch. But...it makes more sense by far then postulating some kind of ESP, or supranormal intelligence that allows a creature with no concept of modern technology..to somehow know what a camera is, and what you are thinking.

You're right. Boiling is to remove human scent, and waxing is to help prevent freezing.

I've gotta agree again.

Hey Nightwing, I guess you are the expert. Then tell me why all the camras taken into the field have done nothing for decades. Logic would tell you it ain't working, and would also tell you to try something else. Maybe we can get a spy satillite to take a picture, can you think of something else? Have you ever seen one? Probably not, or you wouldn't make such assumptions (assume means : ass-u-me). I never said this WAS the absolute way, only an idea since nothing else is seems to be working. But you, on the other hand, seem to know it all already. Your opinion on the hat cam and new ideas is just plain ignorant. You, me, or anybody else has no idea at all in reality.......try to keep an open mind, unless you have the proof to back up your ramblings.
Ape Dog
Bigfoot does NOT know what a camera is, is NOT afraid of them, and is NOT reading our thoughts.

This is for Nightwing.....how do you know this for sure? Mighty bold statement, I NEVER would make such a statement about something like this, makes us ALL look very silly.
nightwing
If your mind is too open, your brains will fall out.
And doubting that Sasquatch is a mind reading techno-phile makes me look silly? I suspect I am in good company, then.
BTW...I never said the hat cam was a bad idea..I think for the convenience aspect, it's fine.
Oh..and we have no pics more than likely because there are relatively few sasquatches, and lots of trees on which to hang cameras..and to date, the two have not yet met.
Occam's Razor....

Whoa Cowboy...that last statement makes us all look silly. If you think thats only for Nightwing you are wrong Pal.

You honestly think Bigfoot knows what a camera IS and IS afraid and IS reading our thoughts??

Bigfoot does NOT know what a camera is...IS NOT afraid of them and CANNOT read our minds!

If you honestly think that is within the realm of possibility then I can direct you to a couple of sites where you will be welcome with open arms!

You know what? Maybe you know where they are.

Speak for yourself apedog, but don't speak for all of us.

In most cases people who see a bigfoot are so caught off gaurd,by the time they remember they have a camera the encounter has passed. I saw a sample of a hat camera where it was rigged to a remote finger trigger that in case of encounter all had to do was clinch their fist and they would get the shot.

i don't think the hat camera had anything to do with it being hidden from the subject as much as it had to do with getting the shot through reflexes and being prepared for that unexpected encounter. smile.gif

I do a pretty good job making myself look silly all by myself.

Morans and idiots.......that would be nightwing, blackdog, and tims. It is people like you who try and ruin it for everybody else. Are you guys even adults yet?
You are missing the point of this site, maybe you should go to the other sites,

You are no one to decide what the point of this forum is or isn't. It is what it is and that's that. And yes, you are certainly entitled to your opinion, but don't get your hackles up when that opinion is challenged. And here, it will be challenged greatly.

And...calling users morons and idiots will get you on time out in short order. Please keep that in mind and make your posts accordingly. If having your opinion challenged gets you that riled that quickly, then perhaps you should sit back and stew a bit before losing your cool and posting in anger. That would be my suggestion, anyway.
Ape Dog
Don't really care......I have pretty much lost interest with this site anyway, there are some very unprofession poeple in here, and they are obviously out to just piss people off......and I gave them some of there own medicine. Very counter productive my friend(s). There are a lotta super people though, and just like everything else in life....a few idiots too.
Fishbone35
Well, if you've lost interest in the site that's fine. Again, to each his own. But if you are going to continue to post then chill with the name calling. To be honest, I don't agree with your opinion(s) either, but that doesn't make me an idiot or a moron.
Ape Dog
I am a new member, and was told, by a fellow bigfooter, that this was the place to find intelligent like minded people, who wouldn't ridicule and insult your ideas. Guess he was wrong. I offered ideas, not opinions. You brain heads tell us what works, I will certainly listen w/o the childish unprofessional remarks. But until somebody actually knows, then shut the heck up with YOUR opinions, and give us some ideas. Like I said, it is quite obvious that there are people here just to cause trouble.
Ape Dog
Nightwing, Tims, and Blackdog are 'Unsure' if they have seen a Bigfoot, how can you be not sure about something like this? And Fishbone35 has never had a sighting......I rest my case.
Fishbone35
Okay. Then it is your ideas I, and others, are in disagreement with. And since this is a forum, your ideas will be rebutted with the ideas and opinions of others whether you like it or not. If that's too much for you to take, then you are certainly welcome to find a place that is more to your liking. As I said, to each his own, just don't think that anyone here is going to bend to your will.

Your case??? icon_really_happy_guy.gif

Do you mean your own speculation? Your own ideas? Prove that they are any more substantive than anyone else's and I'll be impressed. Hell, prove they're any more substantive and I'll eat a whole plate of crow in one sitting. But you know what? That's a safe challenge because you can't prove your ideas. Or perhaps you can. But you're not going to win any supporters by simply whining about the unacceptance of your ideas when they themselves are unfounded. Simple as that.
Ape Dog
Easy fella......sorry to ruffle your feathers. I have noticed the same members doing this sorta negative posting all over this forum, and you few just need a little verbal spanking from time to time, get used to it. And Fishbone35, until you have a sighting of your own, you are not in the same catagory with those of us who have, don't even pretend.

OK, now that is just funny as hell. icon_really_happy_guy.gif

Having a sighting makes you no more an expert than anyone else. As far as this special "catagory" it doesn't matter how many bigfoot someone has seen, it's all still just speculation on everyone's part. Your opinions and ideas are not worth anymore than anyone elses, no matter what you may think. Bring us a good photo or video, hair sample, or a body and we might be impressed with your knowledge.
Ape Dog
Truth hurts Fishy, doesn't it. No sighting, you are all hot air to me. Now who's lashing out. Another question, you are female....right?
Fishbone35
No, I'm not a female. But I'm not on moderator preview either. wink.gif

I don't get spankings here...I give them though.
JayleeD
What the hell has gender got to do with anything?
Ape Dog
Hello JayleeD....at least you had a sighting, I will listen to you. I won't post anymore to this thread guys, this isn't doing any good now, and has moved well beyond meaningful exchange.
JayleeD
Hey, just because I had a sighting doesn't make my opinions and ideas any better or more accurate than anyone elses. I can't imagine why you think having a sighting makes you some kind of expert. Now if you sat down and had a cup of coffee with a bigfoot, and got his picture holding the cup, I'd be impressed.

As one of the "morans" I have to ask if you know what the word encounter means? Maybe you don't but it doesn't necessarily mean “sighting”. Mine is on the board, you can look it up.
Have you ever seen a moose? I have but it doesn’t make me any more knowledgeable about moose than you.

Verbal spanking? LMAO!! You have to do better than that. You’re welcome to fire away at any time, but next time bring some ammunition, I hate to duel with an unarmed person.
You’re prepubescent, right?

Well, I'd say you've pretty much blown any shot you had at any future "meaningful" exchanges with anybody here in the future.

btw... nowhere in NW's profile does it say that he had an "unsure sighting" ... it's an unsure ENCOUNTER, and one that I shared with him, and I'll vouch for it 100%.

Ape Dog, I think you done bit off more than you can chew. One thing about dealing with intelligent people is they will ask questions and challenge your assumptions. If you can't handle that then you need to get back up on the porch.

Believe me, these folks are acting a lot more professional than you are, and from the way you have handled yourself so far they are a lot more mature and intelligent.

I'm all for trying different methods of researching and tracking Bigfoot. I'm even willing to consider and try out some unorthodox tricks. However, I think it would be foolish to abandon standard operating procedures just to promote anybody's pet theory. If those methods haven't worked then it is probably due more to Bigfoot being an exceptionally rare as well as wary quarry. Truth is, when Bigfoot is finally proven it will be by some good ol' boy or girl who was fat, dumb, and happy minding their own business when Bigfoot ran out in front of them when they just happened to have a gun, or camera, or be going down the road about 70 mph.

That said, I think I'll use the "traditional" methods as my baseline and throw in a new twist now and then just to see if I get results. There's plenty of room for the new and experimental without abandoning techniques that may just need time and the right opportunity.

I'll believe Bigfoot knows all about cameras when I catch one reading Modern Photography while it's taking a dump.

BTW, the party hearty idea is not a new one and has been advocated and used by some of the same folks here you are so critical of. Ditto for the camera idea.

Here’s a mainstream source that’s now supplying a hands-free, helmet-mountable, flash-Ram, pocket-sized video camera. It’s the Samsung SC-X105 digital video camera, described in brief in a half-page in Wired (3/05, p. 62), where its price is given as $600. It’s also described in a press release from Samsung at: http://www.samsung.com/PressCenter/PressRe...0105_0000089662. Its price there is given as $800—the extra $200 probably reflecting the inclusion of the optional MPEG4 and Sports Cam (helmet-mountable, cable-linked lens) features. Availability is March 2005; there’s currently (2/28) no entry in the Product section of the Samsung site for it. Here’s the press release:

QUOTE(Samsung Press Release @ Jan. 5, 2005)
SAMSUNG’S New Sports Cam Takes Digital Video To Extreme Heights

Weather Resistant Chassis and Hands-Free Shooting Capability Make New Digital Video Camera the Hottest Recording Technology for Outdoor Adventurers

The SC-X105 features a durable, rubberized body that is water resistant and built to withstand harsh conditions. The pocket-size chassis and streamlined design provide maximum portability for the modern "on-the-go" lifestyle fitting directly into pockets, backpacks and other athletic gear. An extra sports camera module provides hands-free shooting capability and can be mounted on a helmet or other stable surface for extreme-sports recording.

"Samsung understands that today's customers lead adventurous lives and they want to capture every second of it on video," says Claude Frank, Director of Digital Audio/Video Products, Samsung Electronics America. "The SC-X105 is the first video camera of its kind. We developed it to record every thrill, even in rugged conditions."

The SC-X105 epitomizes Samsung's reputation for innovation in the field of digital convergence technology. The camera features 10x Optical Zoom with a 680K Movie Optimized CCD lens for superior color precision and image detail. In addition to producing sharp, realistic movie footage, the SC-X105 allows users to capture digital stills at 720 x 480 and 1280 x 960 resolution.

The SC-X105 combines innovative design and pro-caliber video capture capabilities with Samsung's latest usability enhancements. The Instant Power ON option means that users never have to worry about missing crucial moments of footage waiting for the device to warm up. When Instant ON Mode is selected, the camera becomes ready-to-shoot 0.9 seconds after pressing the button. And Samsung has taken the guesswork out of managing battery power with an up-to-the-minute battery arc display that lets users know exactly how much recording/playback time they have left.

The SC-X105 also incorporates all the features consumers expect from Samsung's quality camcorders. A two-inch 211-pixel color LCD screen allows video playback and still image viewing. The Image Stabilizer function compensates for slight shaking movements caused by an unstable position and ensures smooth footage even in suboptimal conditions. 512 MB of built-in memory and an MPEG4 recording option help users maximize the amount of footage they can capture before downloading their movies. MPEG4 recording offers the additional advantage of allowing users to share their files quickly via e-mail.

The SC-X105 will be available in March 2005, with an MSRP of $799.99.
