Credibility, that is.
QUOTE
I also don't think any video footage would do it. I'm being a pessimist again, but I feel you could capture a bf pushing over a 12" diameter tree or tossing a boulder the size of my monitor, and the skeptics would find logical-sounding ways to discount it. And the regular media would prefer their account.
Its all his fault.JK. John R got me thinking about it.If you have crystal clear video or pics, hair samples and other corroborating evidence.I hope it will come down to credibility of the person who obtained the evidence. And not the need for a body.I've noticed in the past that a lot of times a new species has been proven to exist.(one of the threads on that is around here somewhere ?) simply because the photo or evidence for it came from a credible source. No body,no death. It may just be my opinion but if the person responsible for the evidence can hold up to the scrutiny how wouln't that parlay into proof.I realize I myself,am probably out of that description for no other reason than my involvment in the BF "field".That seems to be an automatic disqualifier as far as "science" is concerned. But say it someone like the dean of a major university or something similar, out for a weekend with the family who gets the evidence. How would they question his ?especially if his background is in one of the sciences that specialize in a related field.I don't hunt.I have nothing againt hunting in general and I have before (not to my liking, sorry)And I'm not entirely sure I could shoot one , unless it came down to a matter of self preservation just to satisfy science.I know Krantz wrote "being dead never hurt anybody.",but that I cannot agree with, its kind of hard to ask the dead thing/person how they feel about the situation.Late night ramblings of a tired man.sounded better in my head than typed out in front of me ,what can I say? .I just hate to think I'd have to die before anyone believed I lived.Last I checked no accredited scientist has seen me either.

I have given this some though, just in case I am the person who gets to capture some really good footage.
I went through quite a detailed approach to recording video and 'timestamping' it to proove that the tape has not been digitally altered - I don't know where that post is, but i'm sure someone will find it.
Anyway, I think I personally would make a very credible witness - as a forensic examiner, I think my attention to 'evidence handling' is much better than most.
But, (and its a big BUT) the very fact that I had set out to capture sasquatch on video marks me out as a loon in most people's eyes.
I can't remember who it was that said it, but this is a bit like saying that a policeman is a less credible person to capture a burglar just because that is what the policeman was trying to do.
It is a nice comparison, but I do feel that whoever comes up with that incredible bit of video footage will come under so much media scrutiny that their very belief in sasquatch will work against them.
I hope that the video footage is finally caught by a non believer for this reason alone.
Just look at the remarkable photos captured earlier this year of the loch ness monster - the best photos for years, and they were immediately dismissed as a fake by all and sundry.
Even the bookmakers william hill have dismissed them, and the annual prize for the best photos has been rolled over into this year.
I still believe that a body is necessary - i wish it wern't, but i'm afraid it is.
That said, all I want is to see one for myself - the scientists can go screw themselves.
Well now, those are some tough posts to follow… but I’ll give it a whack…
Credibility huh, why not just give specific parameters as to exactly what you will accept as proof in the way of a video or still photo… or any evidence, for that matter?
Like jim says, a BF pushing over a tree or tossing a car, ok… that will work, but how about a BF sitting on a rock and feeding it’s young, or swimming or just sleeping in the sun… nope, that won’t do, because I’ve decided it won’t.
I suppose then there is no hope for me… why should I even carry a camera with me? I mean, even if I take a photo of one, as long as it doesn’t fit within our pre-conceived idea of what we want to see… then it wouldn’t even be given consideration… but then, what if it is given serious consideration?
Have I completely ruined my “credibility” because I come on this forum and joke around? Has that ruined my credibility? I can guarantee, if that were the case… I would be scrutinized under a magnifying glass…. does what I do or believe seriously jeopardize any credibility I might ever hope to have in this community?
If the answer is yes, then I may just as well call it quits now.
You want to talk about credibility? Would you consider someone like the director of the FBI credible? Probably, yes… well then, I suppose the rumor that J. Edgar Hoover was a cross-dresser doesn’t bother you?
Would you consider the president of the United States as a credible person to believe Probably, yes… well then, I suppose Monica was just a troublemaker…. telling stories without any basis of truth…
Maybe you see where I’m going with all this…
Then again, maybe it only makes sense to me…

For credibility insurance, you may have to so far as to have a third pary along on every outing. Someone who is a complete bigfoot skeptic, and who themself is completly trustworthy and will have no personal gain to witnessing a bigfoot.
Since that is nearly impossible.Should we use better cameras. Is film better than video for motion photography. A big zoom lens to see all the fleas on a hairy behind. Is our Wal-Mart camera equipment not up to the task
I am going to try Fishbones plans for the microphone.I think that is a great tool for evidence. If you can make a hat mounted parabolic,to keep your hands free for filming you might have something.
If nothing else you'd look like Al Frankins mobile satilite report from SNL.

I agree with Paul. I hope the guy who gets the perfect evidence is a non-believer or, at the very least, someone who doesn't think one way or another and is out on a family picnic or something when he captures the perfect image/footage. This is one of the things that has always damaged the PG film: they went looking for it and found it.

But what do y'all consider to be footage that might be considered proof by a significant number of scientists? Here's a short list to kick around:
- footage in which the subject's height can be measured to be 8' or taller?
- footage with the subject performing acts impossible for humans, e.g. pushing over large trees, upending a car, punching out a grizzly, listening to Kenny G., etc.
- where the subject produces sounds that are impossible for humans
- where the subject....... (I can't think of any more right now, its been a long day).
I know there are other possibilities-- I'd like to hear them as well as thoughts on the above. JR

Listening to kenny G.???? My god man they're apes not wussies !!! (no offense intended to any Kg fans,as for me, bleeech) John,Ii think the things on your list would definately lend to the credibility.I can't think of anything to add right now.

I was going to go to sleep. Just read a few and go to sleep. And I can't say what I think because I know small children read posts like these.
So I have been raucus and maybe a bit too wild. But I had to sign on when I read this line. I am going to chuckle all the way to the can and after I finish flossing. Dang, funny. Thanks JR

Well, here we are. Its a pretty blue. If I had a dollar for each time I had to put my password in, uh.. I would have enough to send on those sd's to Fish. Now.. the important question first, WHERE is the BEER THREAD ????????????
Secondly, if I knew what I was doing in here I would have directed this post to the most obvious location for it. With that said, its obvious I don't so here is this next question.
Where did the Member's LOUNGE go?
Thirdly, Once I figure that out, how is it accessed? Any question or search I tried got flipped off to the side so I know much less than I did before and let me tell ya as if that wasn't obvious,
that wasn't much.
But.. I concede this is neat and I love the shade of blue.

Or in technical terms Cerebral Flatulence.
