About a year ago my neighbor who lived in the house in front of me told me of a creature called "Dontos". One day when I was shooting the sh@#t with him I mentioned "Sasquatch" and he looked blankly at me ( He was from Guatemala ) I decribed what I was talking about and he said "Oh you mean Dontos!" (in broken english) " Really big maing" and proceeded to imitate a Sasquatch walking....He said his mom saw one walking between her garden and forest at 5am ( In Guatemala of coarse ). He also said some dogs went after it and it picked them up and threw them. He told me not to "Mess with it" He told me one grabbed a guy and the dude lit his cigarette lighter and burned its arm to get away wacko.gif He said bullets deflect off the fur because the fur is so thick blink.gif I think there is something to this because of his candidness when relating these stories. I've searched and found nothing about "Dontos"....maybe because it's bulls new_whistle.gift? Also he kept talking about the tracks like the heal went first or something, couldn't figure out what he was talking about. Any Ideas?

Sorry Maheekat, can’t help you with Dontos but I was compelled to commend you on your masterful use of the smilies. Cracked me up! new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

When bipeds step forward the heel strikes the ground first. Thus the heel portion of the track will most always be slightly deeper then the front because the wieght is being caught first upon the heel. Try it with your own step and you'll see what I mean. Maybe thats what he ment?

I've never heard of Dontos... and it doesn't have an entry in the Encyclopedia of Cryptozoology.

Not surprised that "Dontos" does not show up. It could be a name used in his village or region only. Or it could be a name used only within a small group of people. After all we call the Sasquatch "the big guy" and other pet names that never come up in the Encyclopedia of Cryptozoology.

Maheekat - are you sure he didn't mean that famous Native American sidekick - "Tonto(s)"? biggrin.gif

That's a good theory...I like it!

I was thinking along those lines also. I wonder if there is a more common name in that country. I think I saw a name for them in South America somewhere.

Sorry- should have clarified that more. I did a quick search and discovered that 'dantos' is what they call tapirs in Guatamala and Belize. Are you sure he wasn't referring to these? Maybe he was pulling your leg?

Ha!
The team's mission will be to collect evidence supporting the existence of two unknown man-like primates, known locally as the Sisemite and Dwendi. The Sisemite, which has also been reported from neighboring Guatemala, is described as similar to North America's Bigfoot, but with only four fingers and strange backwards-pointing tracks. Sisemites are said to abduct local women and kill the men. They are greatly feared.

Wow, even though I'd seen the DeLoy photo as a kid, I'd never read of these creatures.

Sasquatch, Sisemite, Dwendi, Pempek, Almas, Yeti, little 3 foot hairy men, .........

This is truly an international phenomena, and these creatures are clearly rare and elusive in all reported areas.

It is possible your neighbor was takling about "dantas", which are the local name of tapirs there. Maybe ask him if it is a 4-legged animal, or a bipedal. If it is a bipedal, ask if it is similar to "sisimite" (the local wildman, which is considered dangerous).
Greetings.

Sisimite is the larger version of "El Duende" or somewhat.

I am from El Salvador - close enough to Guatemala. From what I've been able to gather from my folks, Sisimite reminds me more of the Greek Cyclops than of a Sasquatch-like creature. They describe Sisimite as being 20+ feet tall. No mention of hairy bodies, and a SINGLE EYE. Note that my folks don't claim to have seen it, but rather heard this description from other people (who heard it from other people and so on.)

I've also read that the Sisimite has feet that point backwards...

Not terribly believable.
