Being the avid outdoorsman he is, I thought it was odd that he checked out of the lodge and left the region. I mean, wasn't this 5-7 miles from his location?
I'm very familiar with this area. I don't think he left the area. It is our favorite place to take a scenic to. We were there(loop road) just last weekend. Last summer we drove to the camp ground near were the NF trail is. Ten years ago me my wife and 3 boys hiked into the river were the submitter seen the tracts. I also occasionaly fish the upper Quinault River. It is a rugged fast river which requires a whole lot of skill to run in a drift boat. It is fairly remote and dosen't get many fisherman. I'm always looking for prints on the ground.
Aside from his embellishments about himself, I had no problem following his route in my minds eye. I knew exactly where he was by his description.
The Quinault Valley loop road travels from HWY 101 east past Lake Quinault where it crosses the Upper Quinault River then back to HWY 101. At the south end of the bridge, which is the direction in which the reporter was traveling from(the south shore road), the road goes another 7 miles up the valley where it dead ends at Graves Crk. This is how you get to Enchanted Valley. On the North side of the bridge the road goes up the valley maybe 2 more miles at the most. Up there is the N. Fork trail, a small camp ground and a seasonal forest ranger station which is where the submitter went.

The tracks were totally clear and in most of them I could even discern the " fingerprint" like lines in certain areas.
I don't think the submitter was talking about actual fingerprints but the lines in the bottom of the feet. I think they call them dermal ridges. Even though he is a yuppie liberal from Puget Sound I beleive his report.

Here is my report. It happened about 2 miles or less south of the South Shore Rd. of the Quinault Valley Loop Rd which is where the yuppie was staying.
LOCATION
There is a long straight stretch on HWY 101 between Lake Quinault and Neilton, WA. The sighting took place just north of the N. Fork of Boulder Crk.
ENVIRONMENT
There is old growth forest on both sides of the road consisting of mostly Douglas Fir with Western Red Cedar, maybe some Western Hemlock and Spruce. It is a state owned, old growth forest set aside many years ago for scientific study.
TIME
The year was probably 1978. I think the season was late spring or early summer. The weather was overcast with a light drizzle.
OBSERVED
I was headed south in a delivery truck when my eye caught movement on the right side of the road maybe 200 yards ahead at the most. The creature had been standing motionless at the side of the road. It was facing the road then it spun around counter clockwise and in less than 3 steps was gone back into the timber with it’s arms swinging as it stepped. I saw him for 2.5 seconds. It was solid black. It was very large with huge shoulders and long arms. I think he was standing there looking to see if it was safe to cross, then turned around and retreated because of my approaching vehicle. I thought what the heck was that? Did I see what I just saw? It moved like a large man but it is a solid color. I saw one color. It didn’t have any clothes on. It had very broad shoulders. I just started trying to rationalize in my head what I just witnessed. Did I just see a sasquatch? It was hard to believe I saw one. Still is.
I came upon the spot where the creature retreated back into the woods. I slowed my truck down to a slow roll but there was no way I was going to stop and get out to look for tracks or to see if I could see it up close and personal. I wasn’t going to leave the security of my truck. I looked into the timber best I could as I passed but I didn’t see him.
