I am looking into buying some forest land In St Lawrence county, 5 miles from Adirondack State Park. I am familiar with the sighting history on the other side of the park near Whitehall. There doesn't seem to be much info on the NW side. The habitat seems ideal. Anyone familiar with the area?

Lyon mountain, Averil peak area even Johnson mountain is a good place to start. I've been in this area and it seems like a good place to start. It's not that far from this sighting. http://www.bfro.net/GDB/show_report.asp?id=5241

Billzbub, I was just there over the new year on fourth lake. It looks like prime area to me, but like you I can not find reports for that area. I am not that familiar with the area, but it sure looks like miles of road less area. I wondered if because of the seeming endless snowmobile trails, if any riders have a story or two they are keeping to themselves?

My thoughts exactly, Rhinohunter. I may just need to take a roadtrip and do a little friendly detective work among the locals. By the way, it's funny that I get a reply about upstate NY from someone who lives in Oregon. What brought you to such an unlikely and remote place?

BillZBub, my girlfriend is from Rochester and her uncle has a house in the Adirondack Mountains. I have been there a couple of times but I have not been lucky enough to be there in the fall. It must be something to see with all the colors.

I've been hiking the ADK peaks for years, and I've not heard any stories either. LOTS of woods with no one around. Prime territory.

That area is Prime. The Black ash swamp would be a good area to looke. It's a very large area northeast of watertown.
