Denlevi's encounter:
What was seen, heard or found?Labor Day weekend 2002 my Wife, Daughter and I went camping in the Leadville area to do some 4wheeling and fishing over the weekend. We decided to go up to a hidden lake well above treeline that we had accidentally found the previous year while out 4wheeling some old mining roads. We arrived and had lunch at the edge of the lake and then decided to walk around it to scout for a good fishing spot. Approx 1/3 of the way around my 9 year old (at the time) duaghter who was walking behind me tripped into a small hole in an island of dirt and grass that sat near the edge of the water. The area is very rocky but small patches of dirt line the shore in some places.
My wife who was behind her stopped and then called to me to come look, and that this is a footprint. We had our video cam with us as we always do when we are out wheeling to film the scenery. We have many hours of these videos from all over the place. She video taped the track as I inspected it and I realized it was very fresh with grass still popping up inside. The mood of the day changed from happy to somber for all of us then we continued to walk around the lake were we found what looked like more tracks but they were not clearly defined as the first one. We found a pyramid shaped pile of small chunks(2-3") of moss that had been torn out of the area and then placed on a large rock near the inlet part of the lake. It looked to be eaten and only the root clusters is what were left on the pile. Also found what looked to be large digit prints in the muddy root clusters.
I wanted to say that this area is actually not open to most public access we bypassed a couple government private property signs and other signs that warned of the of the dangers of the abandoned mines in the area. Due to the difficulty accessing the lake and that it is not on any maps we did not see any other people within miles of this area. The print measured 15.5" x 5" depth of the print was 2.5-3" at the front and 3/4" at the back. I stood next to it and didnt depress at all in the grassy dirt. I can attache a pic.
When did this incident occur?Saturday, September 1, 2002
What time of day or night did the incident occur?Approx 12:30 - 1:00 pm
Describe the lighting conditions and weather conditions at the time of the incident.Sunny clear warm day. No wind perfect weather. about 60F
Where did it occur? Mosquito Range
What was the nearest city or town? Leadville
What was the nearest road or highway? hwy 91
In which county did the incident occur? Park county
What was the environment like?Sub Alpine 12,500msl (well above treeline) tundra very Rocky. lake is in a bowl surrounded by very rocky and steep peaks on two sides near divide of 13,400 peaks. Lake is fed by glacial runoff and is deep enough to sustain substantial trout population year round. Large Native cuthroat trout observed in lake.
Were there other witnesses? Yes
How many witnesses were involved? What were the witness(es) doing just prior to the incident?3 total, My Wife, daughter and I. Hiking around lake
Was there anything else noteworthy? If anything else unusual was observed, found, or heard at the location before, during, or after the incident, please note it here.
Moss that had been chewed on then stacked in a neat pile. The first time we went to the lake we drove our built jeep that made a lot of noise going up the last 100yds to lake. It was very rocky and technical climb even for a jeep. The next time we hiked in from road below and as we crested the edge of the bowl the lake sits in we heard two distinct knocks from mountianside next to lake. Then heard another two knocks from adjacent mountain side. This occured atleast two other times during following visits and at the same point of cresting bowl. We did cast the track the following week after we found it.
Have you heard of any other incidents like this in the same area? There are several reports to the BFRO that all occur in an approximate 7 mile radious of this area. One was on hwy 91 to leadville, a man driving to leadville see's what looks to be a tall stump off the hwy in an open meadow, when stump pivots at waist and looks right at him then walks off. Leadville has a long history of sightings and vocalizations that date back into the mid 1800's and the mining booms here.
This report was submitted to the BFRO as #4897. Other reports from near the area in Park County and Chaffee county Colorado.

chrisandclaudia2 encounter:
Date Mid 1990's about summer of 1994
Time About 10 pm to midnight.
Place. The kp seigna campground about 5 miles past Hannigan
Meadow at about 8 thousand feet in pine forrest.
Weather Normal Arizona White Mountians in the summer. night
times it gets into the 50s.
Observed. I was on a camping trip with a friend from work. we had
been sacked out about an hour and I was listening to a
bull elk in the meadow about 250 yards from the camp
site buggeling. This was a 5 spot camp ground with only
a toilet and water as its improvements. As I was listening to
elk do his thing I heard this god awfull scream/roar/whail
type of call. It was powerfull and went from a lower moan
kind of noise to a loud almost woman kind of screem. I
say almost womas as it was a bit lower in pitch and onced
it reached its higest volume and pitch it lasted a couple
seconds. All the noises in the area stopped. I heard no
more elk till early the next morning. This was a noise
that caused fear to well up inside you. It sounded as if it
was from a 3/4 mile distance or so but at the same time
was loud for being that far away.
Other stories. This area from Arizona has what is know as the
Moggollon Monster. It is also connected to the western
New Mexico forrest and it is near the AZ NM boarder.
This area is a couple Hours drive from the Pasdon area
where the famous boyscout bigfoot encounter occured.
See BFRO reports from Arizona Apache and Mohave
counties.
Also noticed On the day prior to this scream event in the same area
I was walking on a trail and spooked two elk who were
about 30 yards away up hill. They should have been
bedded down but were standing on the hill. they saw me
as i got pretty close to them as I was being quiet. The ran
up hill away from me but something scared them and they
turned and ran back down right past me almost close
enough that i could touch them. I never saw anything or
heard anything but thought it odd enough to turn around
and head back to the camp.It was before the scream
and at the time I figured some larger predator than me
was up the hill from them so this is why i turned around.
I never put the two together till years later.
This is my "not sure but i believe it is encounter". I have to list it as not sure as I didnt see any creatures.

RB's report:
Talking with my dad the other day, he reminded me of a strange story I told him after a day hike about 27 years ago. We were on a hunting trip with about 10 people near Challis, Idaho in October 1975. We had stopped our trucks on a dirt road on our way back to camp following our morning hunt to "work" these hillsides that converged at a stream near the road. To our knowledge, there were no other hunters in that area. Four of us went up into the hills to make a giant circle to try to scare up some game and drive them back down towards the stream where the others were waiting. Being young and dumb, I volunteered to be a hiker. As we split up, I thought three of them went up the backside of one hill while I circled the other. As I came over the ridge, I found myself on a very steep, shale-covered slope about 500 feet above the stream. As I was scared of sliding all the way to the bottom on my butt, I sat down to watch the opposite slope while my dad and the other 2 worked that hill. As I sat there, I saw what I thought was one of our hunting party walk across the slope, about 100 feet below the ridgeline. I remember thinking, boy, he is going to get shot, dressed in dark clothing like that! It kind of made me mad because he was walking a rather brisk pace, not even stopping to look around for game. I watched him through my riflescope, and for the life of me, I couldn't see any rifle in his hands. My dad had brought along one of our neighbors who had very little experience hunting, and I figured it was that guy. After about 30 minutes, I saw my dad and his other buddy come into view. They were much lower on the slope and I estimated their range to be about 400 yards, but seemed to be smaller in comparison to the other figure I had seen earlier. We waved at each other to work our way back towards the others. When we got back to the trucks, the neighbor, of course, was late in arriving. While waiting for him, dad was joking about seeing him walking along the ridge with his rifle still in it's zippered case, as is was raining lightly. I told him that I thought I had seen him, but saw no rifle and almost shot at him as he was dressed in dark clothing. Dad said "He had an orange vest and orange cap on, and how did you see him when he was above and behind you?” I said, "No, he was above and behind you." When the neighbor with the clean and dry rifle returned, he confirmed my dad's report. So I said, "Well then, who was that I saw?” Everyone was too tired and wet to care. We went back to camp and forgot all about it, until the other day. Now I'm starting to wonder all over again.

JVD's report:
Yesterday at at 8:41 me and my brother actually had an encounter! It was unbelievable! I am going to tell the whole story... Here we go!
It all started when we got a phone call telling us we had a fresh 2 week old encounter located in Southern Virginia. So me, my dad, and my two brothers and T Lancaster went to the area that the witness saw the Sasquatch. The witness' name was Patricia. She told us all about the Sasquatch she saw. She said it was grey, very broad, matted dirty hair, and had a dome located on its head. After we talked to her, we decided to go ahead and go into the woods. My dad and T Lancaster went in the middle of the woods, My older brother went into a large field, and me and my little brother went to the outer edge of the woods. Me and my brother decided to enter into the woods, and we saw nothing. We left the woods and called my dad on our phone, and said we were heading back. He said to stay and watch carefully. My dad said he saw a glimpse of something REALLY fast and REALLY big! He also said he became disoriented. So me and my brother went back, and after we entered the woods, we waited for about 10 minites on a stump. Then my brother said, "OH MY GOD!" I asked him what is wrong, and he just pointed! I looked and saw about 80 feet in front of us a VERY LARGE creature, with gray hair, very matted looking, and looked about 8 or 9 feet tall! And I have to say, when you picture 8 or 9 feet tall in your mind, it is NOTHING compared to when you see it! He also had a dome on his head. Then my brother pointed back at it and said, "Josh! It is coming to us!!!" I looked and he was slowley walking in a curious way. My brother wanted to leave but I tried to remind him that you do not need to be frightened! Sasquatch won't hurt you! So we got closer, and he stopped! We stopped too! Then he just sped down the ditch we were near! And then we went to the edge of the ditch and saw him squatting down ignoring us too! We called my dad on the phone and told him what happened. By the time they got here, it was too late! I will always remember that evening!
So you all know, just because I saw Sasquatch doesn't mean I am done! I am still looking! I have put my heart to finding him again and again!
Thanks,

BigFooties report:
Most people here don’t know me from any other newbie so I will give you a little back ground information before you wade through this very long post.
I have been bigfooting for over 30 years. It’s a personal pursuit, quite a solitary part of my life. I like it that way. I have not shared any of my experiences other than anecdotally a very few times. I have not read any of the books, seen the movies or partaken in web sites, forums or conferences prior to March of this year when I became curious as to what other people know and are doing.
Many of the things I know and have learned have not been tainted or enhanced by the observations or experiences of others. I have missed the boat on many instances and have developed completely different theories on others. I have searched this particular observation on the popular web sites and this forum, I have asked a moderator here on the BFF for help in searching the archives a few months ago. Nothing was found. I have not found another reference to tree knocking as a method of food procurement.
I will answer any and all questions you may have, but on some days I may not check the thread until evening so be patient. I have no empirical evidence from the incident. No photos, plaster casts, collaborating witness or hair, just my observations and testimonial evidence. It is what it is, take it as you will.
September 23rd 1999. Sunny, low 70’s, a fresh steady fall breeze, approximately 3:00 pm, Adirondack State Park in the town of Whitehall N.Y. within 5 miles of the location of the infamous “Thumping in Whitehall” thread. I was bird watching for migrating Raptors along the western facing ridges of a favorite Mountain top. I was about 300 feet below the summit on the top of the cliffs. The idea is to watch the migrating raptors, local red tails and vultures catch the late afternoon thermals rising from the forest floor and with the right wind direction hitting the rock face of the ridge the birds will “pop” up within 20 feet of the edge of the cliff for some close and spectacular views. It was a great day and I was absorbed with the acrobatics in front of me.
Note: I believe my scent must have been carried behind me to the area that the sighting occurred because the breeze was steady into my face for a few hours prior. I had to have been scented.
My attention was focused in front of me and out into the sky for a mile. After the sighting I theorized that the sounds I heard behind me for 10 or 15 minutes prior were not hikers as I thought. The sounds were relatively benign sounds you would hear from a hiker clumsily approaching. Branches snapping, rocks “gently” clicking, rolling or moving as they are walked upon. About 5 or 6 instances of sounds were heard. Since I was not paying close attention I can only theorize this and if that is true the animal was closer to me at that point, perhaps 20 yards. When the sighting took place these types of ancillary sounds could not be heard due to the distance and interference of other sounds produced by the breeze itself and wind rustled leaves. But based on the observed movements I believe sounds were being made.
I heard a clear loud single “whack” not unusual in it’s self but my instinctual reaction was not that of being annoyed by another human invading my peace, but a feeling of concern. I was already sitting between 2 large rocks concealing my profile from the birds so I turned around and watched and listened. There was movement 90 yards distance, as determined by my 20x spotting scope. The woods were too shadowed for good light transmission to use my 20x60 spotting scope and I could not manage the attached tripod with out chancing excessive noise. I did gain a good focus at the point of movement and left the scope in that position and viewed it on a local football field on the way home to determine the point of focus. (after duct taping the focus ring in place prior to the hike down the mountain.)
I switched to my very bright 10x50 binoculars. The sun was to my back, the forest foliage was thick with approximately 70% deciduous trees, ground cover was sparse to non existent but the rise in the terrain caused the foliage of the trees in the forefront to partially obscure my view, the shadows were strong.
This is what I saw. Initially I saw a large upright animal dark in color approximately 6.5 feet in height, extremely wide in the shoulders and narrow in the waist with thighs that appeared very large in proportion to the body. It’s arms were relaxed at its side and long beyond the knees. My observation lasted about 10 minutes and the remainder of the time the arms did not again relax to be at the side but were held in front or active in whacking the tree. My impression or gut feeling was that of a young, robust, agile animal. It was fur covered but shadows and obstructions were too heavy to allow me to see too much detail. I determined the 6.5 foot height by measuring a glacially cleaved rock with a flat face that the animal was next to that later measured 3 feet and 3 inches. I “eye balled” the animal to be twice as tall as the rock. I estimated the weight to be 400+ lbs. I was 5’10 and 220 muscular lbs. at the time and it was easily twice the mass as I was. Through out the sighting it was mostly moving and active with it’s back to me and facing uphill so details of hair length, facial features were not obvious. And, I actually quite interested and focused on it’s behavior. I'm more an amateur behaviorist than a taxonomist .
I will summarize what happened next. The animal held a large stick in it’s right hand (paw ?) and hit a tree in front of it (up hill) very hard. The tree was about 14 inches in diameter and the animal swung the stick with all arm, no body twisting. It stopped and looked up the tree waiting about 2 minutes and then hit the tree again. This time quickly moving to the next tree about 6 inches in diameter and vigorously shook the tree. It was then that I saw there was an animal in the tree acting quite frantic as it tried to climb higher in the tree but was knocked loose by the shaking and fell about 5 feet and was able to grab another branch. It then made a drastic jump back to the original tree which was immediately whacked again 1 time. I realized it was a raccoon as it jumped back to the 2nd tree which was immediately shook again. The raccoon fell to the ground in a manner that was partially behind the larger tree. There was some rapid movement and the animal stooped and somewhat scooted or shuffled in a squatting position a few feet behind the tree and stopped. I couldn’t see if the raccoon was grabbed as it fell or whacked with the stick but there was little movement for almost 5 minutes as the animal remained in a squatting position. It then stood up and walked into a tighter stand of trees that made it even more difficult to see as it steadily moved south parallel to the ridge line and disappeared into the distance. I waited 20 minutes and approached the area. I didn’t find the stick used to hit the trees and I didn’t see it carried away, but it could have been and I didn’t see it. I did find the right hind foot of the raccoon and ¾ of the tail along with a patch of fur about 2x3 inches in size that I believe came from the top of the raccoons head. That’s all I found. The ground was hard and very rocky, there is not much substrate suitable for holding impressions but I did see some scuff marks that were made. I did look for hairs although quickly as I felt compelled to leave.
I felt in danger to a small degree, but only to the extent one feels in danger in the presence of something massive that could be destructive. Like standing 10 feet from a passing train, no outward threat or escalating danger as long as no one moves. That’s what it felt like. I have been back a number of times … but with my shorty 12 ga. pump in my pack.
Additionally, I did not hear or see any people in the woods that day where I was for approximately 8 hours. Which is precisely why I like this area. There had been minor traffic on the access road 1 mile away during the day as evidenced by “car” sounds. I believe I was the only person actually “in the woods” that day for at least 2 miles in all directions. During the time of the sighting I heard no other sounds from the animal. No calling, walking sounds, grunting, raccoon squealing, limb breaking. No unusual smells. At one point as the animal was squatting partially hidden behind the tree. It abruptly stopped and leaned back to look directly at me for about 3 seconds. Then resumed what it was doing. I am certain that it scented me at that time, I slowly checked wind direction with the “lick the finger method” and it was right on for delivering my scent. In case everyone doesn’t know. Put your index finger in your moth getting the tip wet and hold it up, the side that feels cool as the breeze evaporates the saliva will be the direction the wind is coming from. Rudimentary but effective. At no time did the animal walk on all fours, actually it appeared cumbersome at the point that it moved while close to the ground ie. stooped, scooted, shuffled. It was definitely “built” for 2 feet and it did have a general humanesque (my own word) nature about it’s movements as apposed to a great ape. I have not misspoken concerning my use of 10x50 binoculars and not seeing greater detail in the animal, that is accurate. The shadows, foliage and 90 yards of tree trunks in this healthy forest prevented me from seeing detail.
As a personal opinion I would characterize it’s movements as smooth, deliberate, efficient, powerful and balanced as beautiful an example of a survivor as nature has to offer. I was in awe.
Before you even ask. It was not a bear, I’ve seen many and it was not a bear. It was not a human, I’ve seen a lot of them too, even 7 foot tall ones and it was not a human.
Thank you for your time. I have made this such a long post as to give you as much information as possible and maybe answer the more obvious questions thereby facilitating more detailed questions.

WoolyBooger's report:
YEAR: 1999
SEASON: Fall
MONTH: October
STATE: Texas
COUNTY: Tyler County
LOCATION DETAILS: Neches River. Cow pasture across river from our camp.
NEAREST TOWN: Colmesniel
NEAREST ROAD: FM 1745
OBSERVED: I went to the river camp in the afternoon, at the end of October 1999, to fill my deer feeders. I had a late start and I was afraid I would get stuck (if it started raining) in the bottom so I parked a 1/2 mile or so from the camp. There was a chance of rain in the area which was good because it had been dry, but it doesn't take much for this area to get wet, quick. I filled two, 2 and 1/2 gallon buckets with feed corn and took off walking down the road that leads past the first feeder. I noticed before I got to it that the feeder was missing. After a closer look I found the feeder hanging in the tree. It had been wrapped around the limb it was tied to, like a teather ball. The feeders we were using were made of 4" heavy PVC drain pipe about 2 feet long. The rope was about 10 feet long. I was thinking of climbing up the tree (or better of it) when I saw something move to my left. It was about 75 feet away and was hiding behind a large oak tree. I had seen it for just a second and thought I was seeing some strange looking, shaggy hog. As soon as I moved toward it, it started to move off. I followed it for a couple of minutes in this fashion but I could never get a good look. It was very good at keeping the brush and trees between it and myself . As this is in a place where the river over flows regularly (the run-off end of a slough), there is excessive amounts of dead trees, brush and briars at times. Sometimes it piles up so thick, it looks like beaver dams. I could only catch glimpes of it because of the thick cover. Because of it's shaggy appearance I had begun to believe it was an emu or maybe two. I know this sounds strange, but a couple of weeks earlier, a man in one of the hunting clubs up the road told me someone had emptied a cattle trailer full of unwanted emus in their club and I was convinced this is what I was looking at. We continued on this way movin up the river. We came to the old R/R crossing at another camp house and boatramp across the river. We were to a point were it/they either had to step into the open, go back the way it/they came or turn and face me. When it stepped out I really couldn't believe it, at first. It was a bigfoot, sasquatch, wooleybooger, or whatever you want to all it. There is nothing else it could have been. I was 50 feet or less away from it. The left side and back were to me and I couldn't see the face. It was about 7 feet tall, walking upright, and covered with long shaggy hair. It was longer on the arms (which hung to the knee) and covered its (hands ?). The hair was dark gray-ish black, and reminded me of old hay rolls that had been left out in the pasture, uncovered. It had huge, wide shoulders and the head just sort of blended into them. I did not see the feet. I would estimate its weight at 300 lbs. Although it was large, I would have to discribe it as "lanky". As it moved over the bank, paused, and moved down to the river out of sight, I noticed the hair on its rear end was thinner and I could see its butt. It was black and I could see the muscles working. The sighting lasted about 10 seconds. By then my hands were shaking from the adrenaline rush I was having. I haven't had a rush like that since I was a little boy, about to take my first deer (or try, I missed). After I steadied myself (20 seconds or so) I decided to go see where it went. I figured it had crossed the river. You can walk across here easily when the river is down (and it was). I took about ten steps and a very loud "snap" came from directly behind me, at about 200 ft. That's when I left. I went straight back to my feeder, dumped the corn out on the ground and got the hell out of there. I was feeling flighty, to say the least. There is no doubt in my mind that when I started following this animal, it was on all fours. If at anytime it would have been on two legs (at 7 feet tall) I could have seen it clearly. It took full advantage of the thick cover. It didn't stand until it reached the opening of the river crossing. I've heard the "booger monster" stories all my life, but never really believed them. I now realize this animal has been there all along. I've seen some strange things, in the woods, I couldn't explain. Some of them don't seem so strange anymore. If I see it again, he can go his way and I'll go mine.
ALSO NOTICED: Dark gray-black shaggy hair. 7 feet tall walking upright. No sounds heard. The wind was blowing.
OTHER WITNESSES: One witness. Went to fill deer feeders with corn.
OTHER STORIES: I have heard stories second-hand since I have
told mine to a few of my hunting buddies.
TIME AND CONDITIONS: End of Oct. Late Afternoon. Warm, windy changing over to rain.
ENVIRONMENT: Hardwood river bottom slough.

JayleeD's report:
It was this past fall (2001) during deer season. It was very early morning with quite a bit of fog around. I had gone to a location that other people had hunted in the past, but had not been hunted in a few years. This location is a creek bottom that is surrounded by pine and oak covered hills but does not have very much underbrush, just an open bottom land. I found a place to sit and wait where I thought I would be hidden from view. There is a clear running creek that winds through this bottom and the bottom itself is covered with beach and oak trees.
I got to the site before daybreak and parked my ATV up the hill from where I would be. It was on top of the hill and I was going down toward the creek from there. I had driven from the other side of the hill which is the only way in. Once I got to the place I wanted, I sat down with my back to a pine tree. There was a small pine on one side of me and a large fallen log on the other.
I had sat there for about 30 minutes waiting for the sun to come up enough to see. As I watched the open bottom, I caught movement on the far side of the bottom. It was foggy, but I could tell that it was something coming up a far hill into the bottom. I got ready for a deer to step out into the open. Now, I know this sounds crazy, but I saw a large dark hairy thing walk out into the open and head toward the creek. It was walking upright but with a sort of "stoop" to it, like it had been punched in the gut. I didn't hear any noise except for what sounded like a few limbs breaking as it came out of the brush at the edge of the bottom. When it was directly in front of me, it sort of turned and went down the creek bank and seemed to bend or kneel down, or maybe it was just down in the creek and looked like it bent down. It then stepped up on the other side of the creek bank and walked into a clear cut that borders the bottom. Now, I did smell a rather rank smell, but I don't know if it came from the animal or not. Someone on the other forum suggested that there might have been another animal closer to me that I didn't see. In my judgment, it was probably 7-7 1/2 feet tall, heavy set on top but seemed to have long lean legs. The arms hung down toward the knees but not all the way to them. It was very dark in color with hair that covered it, but didn't seem to be shaggy. I noticed that it did not have to grab anything to get up out of the creek but just seemed to step up on the bank. The head seemed to be large and sort of pointed or coned.
I'm not ashamed to tell you that I got the hell out of there just as soon as it was light enough for me to go back up over the hill without using a light. I guess I thought using a flashlight would draw attention to myself. I have not been back to the area and have told no one about this. I know these rednecks around here would make my life miserable. Now that I've had time to really think about all this, I know that I have to go back. I have to see if there is any evidence of other activity. I plan to take my trail camera there and put it up close to where this thing was. Maybe I will be able to better deal with this if I do, or don't, get anything on film.
Thanks for letting me share with you. My hands are shaking and the hair on my neck is standing up just talking about it. Yep, it scared the hell out of me and I'm not afraid to admit it.

SFS report:
Situation: I was 17 years old, out camping for the weekend with a couple of
friends. We split up for the day, each going to do our own things. I went off alone to hunt squirrels with my .22, the whole day of hunting was pretty uneventful. On the way back I was walking on a well established trail that bordered against a clay ridge, the ridge was about seven feet off the ground. I was coming around a corner when I heard a scuffing sound up on the ridge. I turned to see what it was, and there was a Sasquatch standing there. It was about 25 yards away from me on top of the ridge.
Description: The creature was about 5'10" tall, it didn't have very much bulk to it, but I could tell that what muscle it had was very well toned. It glanced down at me a couple of times, but it mostly kept it's eyes on the ground, refusing to maintain direct eye contact. I will say this though, what I saw of it's eyes nailed me to the spot, the eyes on Arky's webpage resemble the intensity, but it was the intelligence that I also saw. The creature had greyish/white hair. The hair on it's head was (estimated) about 9-10 inches long. I saw a bit of it's facial skin and it was a deeply tanned color. It was standing erect when I first saw it, but during the encounter it hunched over very slightly.
Behavior: It showed no aggression whatsoever during the entire encounter. It started chattering it's teeth at one point during the encounter, Rob thinks that this was a sign of nervousness.
Smell: The only scent that I could detect was clover. There was no offensive odor coming from this creature.
During the encounter I turned and looked into the woods, just for a second. when I turned back towards the creature all I saw was it retreating into the forest. It was slouched over as it ran into the forest. Like I said before, I was 17 years old when this took place (1995), and frankly it scared the hell out of me. I had always thought that Sasquatch was a interesting folktale, but had never really believed it existed until this encounter. That encounter is what got me into Sasquatch research.
I believe that the creature I saw was a juvinille. I think this mainly because of it's height, body weight, and lanky look.
There is no film of the encounter, no tracks cast, nothing. I was not looking for Sasquatch when I found him. I was just a teenager out hunting squirrels.

lookoutman's report:
Bigfoot Encounters
Lincoln County, Montana Late July 2005
For the last five years, whoever was available as family - we would stay at the rental towers on the U.S.F.S. rental system. This particular 4 day...3 night stay involved July 29th to August 1st 05. This Lookout is on a concrete-block base, with one flight of stairs going up the east side. On this particular visit, my wife Rosemarie, and son Adrian, are with me.
The location of this Fire Lookout is approximately 12 miles from the Canadian border, and about 14 miles S.W. of Eureka, Montana, as the crow flies. (We crossed at the Port of Roosville.) Lake Koocanusa sits below the tower just to the east. It is 'Webb Mountain Lookout.'
This all began on Friday, around 6:00 p.m. Wanting to take an initial picture just west of the tower, I heard a loud single knock on a tree just to the south. Two minutes later, a second single knock came. The sky was clear, the weather hot and excellent, a light breeze coming up from the forest. On my way back to the tower, I began to smell something different. Not like a skunk, but a distant odor of maybe rotten eggs. I see Adrian standing on the catwalk's west side, and before I say anything, he asks me if I smell something funny? I found this interesting, because he was catching the same thing.
A few minutes later, we wanted to explore a ridge west of the tower. It seemed to be an excellent place for a predator, such as a bear or cat to sit. It was shelved somewhat - and the area below we thought, would be a great place for deer to come up. (They did just that - every day.) Adrian was presently near the edge, with myself about 40 feet away - I had my back to him. I hear the tail end of something from the south - he heard the whole thing. When I reached him, he had goose bumps, and tears in his eyes. He asked me if I heard that? I asked him what it sounded like? He told me, it was like a woman's high-pitched scream. We both felt a little nervous, so we went back to the tower. He suggested putting a large metal fire screen in front of the walkway below. We did just that. I figured we didn't need a cat coming up the stairs. And I didn't want to cry Bigfoot.
As every day there, the deer were there the next morning, a Buck keeping an eye on everything. A day in Kalispell, we were back at the Lookout, and went to bed around 12:00 a.m. The conditions were very dark at the time, with a clear sky, and the stars seemed just off the deck outside. A light breeze was present as well.
At approximately 2:10 a.m. - I awoke to my wife's cell phone beeping - the battery was low. I sat up, and was going to tell her to shut it down. Within two minutes time, I heard the padlock on the steel door below us - it was being fiddled with. From what I have gathered, the room below is for storing firewood. You have to walk up 2 concrete stairs on the outside, and stand on a concrete walk. Then reach up and tamper with the lock. I wasn't happy, ruling out a number of things that it couldn't be. Then I could hear something moving around down below on the rocks - this type of material makes quite a racket. Much of the area around this tower is rock.
I immediately woke up Adrian, and asked him quietly...to listen. I had noticed a beer bottle just to the east of the tower during the day. Whatever was out there, then came in contact with the bottle - moving it aside. Then we both heard the visitor wandering around outside on the rock surface. While all this was going on, my wife had been up, and was now sleeping again. I'm sure glad she felt protected, because we didn't. Adrian and I watched the catwalk like a hawk. We were quietly debating what to do about this - we couldn't see anything outside. We actually put something up against the door.
Now to the south side of the tower - something was moving rock, and moving around as well. Very quickly, it seemed to jump from one level of ground to the next - maybe 4 feet in height difference between levels of ground. It bothered both Adrian and I - coming down with a huge thump - we could feel the damn vibration inside the Lookout. It continued to move around outside.
I noticed that Adrian, over time, had just fallen asleep. During this time, I heard what I thought to be a type of gargle from the throat of something. I again woke Adrian up - he had slept for about 5 minutes. The rocks were still being stepped on outside, and around us. And then we received something we couldn't understand. Something whistled on the east side of the lookout, down below. We both looked at each other. Was there more than one outside? At that point, we threw out the window, the idea of going outside on the deck. We didn’t know what we were up against - and I wouldn't risk loved ones. I was actually telling Adrian at that time, that those outside, didn't know how many of us there were. At least hopefully! I didn't think it was men now, because of the sheer weight that had come down during that jump.
A quarter-moon came out during all this - this whole episode lasting almost an hour-and-forty-five-minutes. With a hint of morning light coming, it disappeared into the night. What struck me as funny - whatever it was - seemed to use the rock most of the time to walk on. We found no tracks that morning. No human tracks, other than ours. And no large animal.
That morning, I remembered that my wife had read some of the visitor’s notes and short stories in the logbooks. I left one as well. Some do - most don't I think. I began to read their stories. These 3 could mean a number of things.
7-19-03 to 7-20-03: "The dogs barked in the window in the middle of the night - something was down there - but I didn't see it."
7-31-03: "Went to the outhouse about 12:00 at night. When an animal blew and thumped away. There was a scared woman. Next morning a muley lingered around - so that's probably what it was?"
July 9th/05: "We came souped up for war, yet ran in fear of two shiny eyes in the dark that reflected off our flashlights."
On Sunday, Adrian and I put our heads to the grind - we didn't want another night of this. We fixed eight different locations with pieces of cantaloupe – placing them on raised rock so the little creatures couldn't get them. Three of these places, I gently smoothed dirt areas for possible tracks. Trip spots were set up, and things put up that would slow something down at least.
We timed ourselves in the tower. We could get outside, and look over the deck with light and camera in 3 ½ seconds. The night before, we really knew where little was at the time. We only had hunting knives and bear spray. (Lucky Americans - they get to carry guns.) Five large cut logs were placed at the top of the stairs – the fire screen still blocking below. We did what we could to hinder anything coming back - even trying to cut off a key escape route. We figured something would try using the area just to the south - it was the fastest way out.
Next morning - nothing! One piece of fruit was missing, but there were deer back. Their prints also moved up to one of the other traps. Adrian actually asked me that morning, if something could have watched us set the traps and bait the area. Smart kid - I'll never know!
Getting back to Calgary on Monday, I was still looking for some answers. I went to the BFRO site. I played a number of audio clips for A.J. (Adrian.) The 1973 Puyallup Washington State clip was his answer - it had apiece in there that was close to what he heard.
Then I continued with a possibility of any other sighting in that area in the past. Still with just the BFRO, I came up with the Lincoln County 1978 vocalization encounter near Libby, Montana. It's about 25 miles away from the tower. There was also a note to this witness. In the same area in august of 2004 (they were camping.) They heard rocks being banged together most of the night.
I have tried as best I can, to give the reader an idea on what has transpired. We will be going up there again. I think a little more manpower will help ease our worry and tension next time. This was the first Lookout in five years that something could actually reach you on the catwalk. The others we have stayed at, had trap doors on the wooden towers, and the other, a big steel door that you had to enter through. I'll remember this!
