Some samples have been compared. I suspect many havn't. One of the problems is that hair from one part of the body doesn't always look the same as hair from the other parts. Hair from one part of a critter may look very different from that hair on another part of it's body. It is difficult to visually identify hair because of this. Most sample are never tested for DNA because of the cost.
