Thought I'd upload a few pics I took the other day of the of Gigantopithecus replica at Museum of Man in San Diego for those who are interested. Resized them a bit, lets see what they look like.

Sure puts things in perspective.

Very cool indeed...

The amount of assumption in that model, whomever designed it, is rather striking in and of itself (foot and hand structure particularly)...From what I understand, the only fossils Gigantopithecus are really known for are a couple jaw bones and some teeth...

But, then again, most dinosaur species have yet to have full skeletal remains to base their "appearance" off of either, so I suppose that just goes with the proverbial territory...

Wow new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

Thanks for posting those pics.

IMHO, very Orang-like in appearance. Probably the best educated guess the scientists and artist(s) could manage, since the fossil collection for these animals is so small. He looks bow-legged (the statue, not Huntfish laugh.gif ) for being a dedicated biped. The feet also stike me as being a tree-dweller's/clasping kind of feet. Probably more of the Orang influence the artist used.

I've read that the belief/theory is that Giganto was a quadraped. Is this based on any evidence, or is it also an educated guess?
