Saline County, Arkansas Sighting

YEAR: 1994

SEASON: Fall

MONTH: October

STATE: Arkansas

COUNTY: Saline County

LOCATION DETAILS: Wooded hilltop near cell towers

NEAREST TOWN: Benton

NEAREST ROAD: W. Jackman Tr.

OBSERVED: I previously sent you an e-mail of this experience, but it occurred in the fall of 1994. We had just moved into our home here and the deer were always coming up to our back fence and causing these little wimp dogs of mine to go into cardiac arrest, esp. at night when I was trying to go to sleep. So I was in the habit of taking a small rifle and shooting a round into the trees to frighen the deer away and shut the dogs up. One night I decided to take my single shot, break-over 410 into the woods on trail to really scare them away. So carrying a flashlight, the gun (broke open , 1 round loaded) and two more rounds, I went off into the woods. About 30 yds into them, I heard movement to my right at about one o'clock, shining my light at the brush, I saw the thing standing stock still. I could tell it was about 7ft. and it was half again as broad across the shoulders as me. I'm 6'1'' and 300lbs so I'm not a little fella by any means, but I was next to this thing. It had a brownish- orange long fur over what I could see of it"s body and it's face was dark. My light reflected in it's eyes like an animal. At that time it grunted and made to move towards me. Being a redneck, the first thing I did was to close the gun, aim and fire. I know I didn't miss because he was only about 30 to 35ft away and I saw fur fly. It yelled and began to move towards again and began to walk backwards, reloading the gun and never taking the light off of it. I fired again, not missing and he really started move on me , so I did this one more time, this time firing one handed. I turned and ran from the woods to my house. My wife was on the back porch when I came out of the woods and I yelled for her to get my 8mm rifle. She met me with it, I spun around, fully expectng to see this thing on me. It wasn't there. I could here it running through the woods, which isn't easy with all of the under growth here. It let out a long loud "warbeling" yell that reminded me of sounds yo might hear at the primate house at the zoo.

ALSO NOTICED: We found several strange tracks about a year ago, but we were unable to identify them. They were large.

OTHER WITNESSES: Just me

TIME AND CONDITIONS: There was also a lot of wild pigs up here but they seem to all have dissappeared about that time.

ENVIRONMENT: In the woods behind my home.

Uh.....was this witness interviewed? Was there a follow up?

single shot, break-over 410

What kind of a gun is that?
Versatile
The gun is a single shot. Meaning you have a gun with a hinge. Move a lever and the gun barrel will lean forward and you can see down the barrel. This will allow you to place a single shotgun shell in it. Close the barrel and it will latch and look normal. you then cock the hammer.

"single shot, break-over 410"

Not to mention, this is a "smallish" gun! Truly, the only thing you're going to harm with these things, other than people, lol, small game, rabbits, squirrels, birds. Though, here in Indiana, they do now allow you to use them with slugs to hunt deer, just don't see the killing power. On the other hand, I hunt with my .45 caliber muzzeloader, I've never gotten a deer with it but have friends whom have taken game with these. We're not talking a powerful firearm here.

I don't know about anyone else but I see a real BS factor in this one. I'll be honest, if I stumbled into what this ol' boy says he saw in the woods. And all I've got is an old .410 shotgun, after I finished sh&^^%ng myself, I'd probably throw the gun at it and run, cause you'd likely hurt it more that way than shooting it. On top of this, the clown has time to fire not one, not two but three shots from a purported distance of (give or take) 30 to 35 FEET!

I know a few good ol' boys down this way, this one must be one tough SOB! My point here, IF this fat hillbilly (Using his description of himself) got a shot off at something, likely it'd have done either, A) scared it and sent it fleeing into the woods or the more likely here cool.gif pi*^ed it off and it would have proceeded to beat him to a pulp and we'd have never heard this story! Reading stuff of this nature, well, my gullibility just isn't that high.

Pluse after the first shoot, BF was moving on him in a distance of 30-35 ft, at first, then to unload and load a 410 that you all ready know or should have know that all you were going to do is piss him off. I find too many faults with this one.

BF moves fast, he fire the 410 three time, How long does it take BF to cover 35 ft??

Personaly I dont think you have time for the second shot... blink.gif

Besides the aforementioned objections to the story I have to wonder about the distances and speeds involved that allowed his wife to run in the house, gather up his 8mm rifle, bring it outside and meet him with it.

I've heard enough stories come out of Saline county from people I believe are credible that I think there may be something there. This story, as told, doesn't help convince me though.

The average human can do it in less than three and a half seconds from a standing position. It does make you wonder. blink.gif

I think the BS meter pegged with this story. new_thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif
