Full Version: OUT IN THE FIELD...

There could be other things that suck the funds from our pockets.

I'm sure, most of us have heard about the cost of being out in the
field? Looking for Sasquatch here...and searching for Bigfoot there!

Getting past the equipment end of it of course, because of the toys
that could be involved, and the price-tags associated to them, we
find ourselves at...'Where the rubber meets the road.'

Depending on how eccentric we are, with such things as accommodations,
eating Russian caviar while casting, and flying to location by Lear-jet...
we find ourselves where most Week-end Bigfoot Warriors are - Down-
to-earth.

If we were to stay home, most of us coming from some sort of urban
sprawl, our money would disappear to things such as videos & snacks,
7-11 trips, honky-tonks & bars, movie-theatres, and shopping - sorry to
the ladies. The list - you make the call. But I'm sure some of it may be
illegal? ...ANYWAY!!

Trucking off to the woods (by car for the politically correct) - we find the
piece and tranquility of the Great Outdoors, and maybe a Sasquatch thrown
in? Eating at home or in the woods should almost average out, unless you're
a wild-animal yourself? If you're not stalking Bigfoot in a National or Provincial
Park, there shall be no fees, and your gas costs should be the big expense.
You may even have a fairly regular bowel movement if Sasquatch decides to
step out of the bush. (Colon-cleansing for the politically correct.)

Being in the fresh open-air, this too, can make a difference to your well-being,
give you exercise, make your family think you're crazy, and may amount to
money well spent? You could even end up as a 'Lean Mean Sasquatch Chasing
Machine?'

It's not that expensive, I guess, unless you plan on going a hundred times? I'll
side with you guys on that!! thumbup.gif

eating Russian caviar while casting

Never had Russian caviar while flyfishing, but I have held a salmon egg or two with my lips while my hands were busy with the hook. Does that count as eccentric?
Not sure about you, Lookoutman, but I am a country boy. I definately get too much of the city or 'burbs regularly. I NEED to get out there in the woods for a while, and often. Just so I don't go postal.

Only if you finished the jar! wink.gif

Russian caviar is overrated....it's salty and tastes kind of like fish eggs wink.gif

While my opiniom of RR isn't high, I like that, Rob. Some of my most memorable meals were made over a campfire. Fresh trout and potatoes cooked in bacon grease streamside for breakfast (don't forget the cowboy coffee), a just-killed grouse or rabbit grilled with some beans and bannock as the sun sets over the mountains. For me, no town or city can produce such a pleasant atmosphere. A man can really think out there. Guess maybe I am just not as civilized as some. Cool thread, Lookoutman. Do I know you, Scotto? Aren't one of my old fishin' buddies, are you?

Don't forget the squirrel on a stick! Beats whatever they have on Outback's menu any given day.

Naw, you don't know me BSF, just another country boy here. Now you went and made me hungry!

BSF-

You just had to tell me all that around supper time...didn't you?
Sounds good! thumbup.gif

A person could write a fair-sized book on the outdoor adventures
of all involved - that look for a Legend. Many are traveling in all
directions to get info on that thing. Besides, it would make so much
better reading than Greg Long's (bag-o-tricks.) Real stories compared
to rubbish. icon_really_happy_guy.gif

Again, thanks for the menu...I can picture that! biggrin.gif

Salmon roe is much better, and you can get it in any tackle shop. Couple of jars of dyed salmon eggs, and a sixer of warm pabst, now that's class. Who needs Don Perignon?

This thread reminds of something from high school.

I know its long, but I think it fits in this thread.

(btw, this is post#100 for me.)

Well, I spend a lot of money on getting there - the fuel costs of just one trip < 500 miles (Almost 1 tank for my Ram 2500 van) costs more than what it does for a weeks worth of supplies for a backpack expidition. And the cost of gear over time averages out to be nothing or a trivial amount. Sure the large ticket items may be frightening, but just think, a $100.00 pack over a years times averages less than $5 / trip.

Aside from the initial outfiting, camping is pretty cheap, Depending on milage and fees. But the food does tast better while in the outdors.
But with squirls ya gotta just wing them in the head, or else you ruin the meat! wink.gif
And the fish really go for that caviar. the cheap stuff though, just to chum the water biggrin.gif
