Cool article! I've seen these and they look just like you would think....a limb is made into a loop (like a noose)...the tree is very flexible and it will stay in the position until de-looped! It does not look like the trees that have been "reportedly" twisted or broken by sasquatches.
As far as I know, Native Americans did not utilize trees in this manner here in the western United States. The closest I can come to are "bow" trees. Bow Trees are junipers that are notched at the bottom and the top of a three foot strip...the strip cures on the tree for a year and the NA come back the next year, peel it off, and create bows out of them. I've only heard of this method being used where junipers grow.
