My daughter bought a DVD of "Boggy Creek" several months ago. I was watching it earlier today and noticed that the picture is "full screen" [or pan-and-scan], not "wide screen".

Does anyone know if this movie was originally released in widescreen format, and if so is that available on DVD? I checked the DVD case it was in, but it doesn't say either format.

This may sound a bit like 'splitting hairs', but I've recently come to appreciate seeing movies in wide screen format if that's what they were originally. Having seen a couple of movies in wide screen, and then full screen, I've come to the conclusion that full screen sucks....

I don't think its ever been released widescreen. If it has,I haven't come across it yet.I prefer widescreen as well and hopefully they'll release it like that.

Check the date on when the film was produced. If it's any length of time back, you can probably count on it NOT being shot and produced both ways. They've more than likely just taken the original and made a master transfer over to the DVD format. Anything can be put on a dvd, it doesn't necessarily mean it has to ever have been shot in widescreen as well.

-just two cents worth-

I never thought of that.It was made back in 1973 so the version thats out is probably all there is.

On the version I have (from Hen's Tooth), the opening credits are squeezed to get it to fit on a TV screen, so it definately was some form of widescreen originally (probably 1.85:1). If you have a television capable of anamorphic squeezing, you can switch it on during the opening to get an approximate idea of how the movie originally looked.
