Years ago (mid/late 1970s) I saw a bigfoot movie at the theater. I'd like to figure out which one it was and if it is still available from somewhere. I remember fragments of scenes. I'm hoping if I describe it, someone will recognize the film.

The opening credits appear against a point-of-view shot of something (I wonder what?) crashing through the woods.

The basic story line followed a group of scientists who were hiking into the woods toward a location that they had identified as a "Bigfoot territory". Each evening - around a campfire - they would recount classic historic stories of bigfoot (Ape Canyon I know was one, I think Theodore Roosevelt's account was another) which were re-enacted in flash-backs.

When the party arrived in "bigfoot country" they made camp and surrounded themselves with electronic eye-sensors in the woods and started monitoring the activity. True to hollywood form - the sasquatchs eventually attacked the camp (in a Steve-Austin-The-Secret-of-Bigfoot-Pass-kind-of-way, tearing down tents and roaring and generally scaring the basic heck out of people).

Does this tale ring any bells with anyone?
Thanks and have a nice weekend everyone.

That would be Sasquatch: The Legend of Bigfoot. I've also seen it referred to as The Legend of Sasquatch.

It is available on DVD from BFRO and BijouFlix

The scary part was that all of a sudden!!!! Sasquatch were at the camp within the inner perimeter without triggering the tripwires!

I saw that at the old Saco Cinema in my home town. My best friend and I sat in the front row next to the lower exit - which was an OPEN DARK TUNNEL that lead behind the screen and out to the double doors by the street. Talk about freaking yourself out.

My favorite line in the movie:

Gotta' love a guy that's that attached to his Tabasco. wink.gif

I saw that in Blackfoot Idaho, November, 1978. Great entertainment value. popcorn2.gif

Joshua (Josh) was his name, not Guss. Had to go dig it out and watch it again. In the movie they travel into Canada but it was filmed in Oregon. Here's the Movie description from the back of the VHS I have. Whoa! if my Mom would have read the below, I don't think she would have let me see it back then wink.gif

Shot against the rugged natural backdrop of Oregon, SASQUATCH has a Disney nature film feel. But SASQUATCH is a docudrama detailing savage bigfoot encounters throughout history, including a recreation of one recited by Teddy Roosevelt in a published journal!

Unlike 90% of other movie portrayals, here the monster is truly that, attacking without provocation, ripping out a hunter's throat, terrorizing miners. This is no mythic skunk ape, no Godzilla-like protector of the redwoods. SASQUATCH is more likely to break your neck just for the primal, sick thrill of hearing it 'crack!'
