How do you imagine two Sasquatches find each other for mating, 1. find a mate from within its own family or 2. travel a long distance to find a mate from outside its own inner family? With so few of these ( I asume ) I think it would be hard to find a mate.
And another question i have is do you think they are monogomous and stay with one mate its whole life or are like alot of the animal world, and the alpha male has his choice between any female he can find?
The QuatchWatcher
The "need to breed" can conquer MANY obstacles. new_blushsmiley.gif

Dinner and a movie??? biggrin.gif
ZogTheFuzzy
Probably before a date, a guy Sasquatch rolls around in some rotting road kill. That heady fragrance is sure to bring BF babes from miles around!
ZogTheFuzzy
Seriously, perhaps the whooping and screaming that's heard sometimes brings them together.

There may even be breeding locations, especially if BF is migratory.
adamsclimber
Could be Zog...you can just see the ads for the stuff. Black Diamond Highway, a scent by Freightliner biggrin.gif

I'd say #2. Inbreeding wouldn't be such a good idea. Finding a mate is probably one of the big reasons for all the screams and yells people hear. Trying to find other needles in the huge haystack!

yeah, I'd imagine the male goes on walkabout when he hits puberty and the female kicks it in her family's territory....waiting for her hairy prince charming to show up and do something to impress her.
Jack Shiite
hmmm have any of you ever heard any reports of a pregnant bigfoot? How many baby bigfoot do you think they can give birth to at a time?

I would imagine only one, with the rare twin birth, like most of our apes....

This subject was touched on lightly in another thread; the thought being that the BF most encountered or likely to be encountered are young males who 1) don't know any better than to be seen, 2) are too horny to be cautious, and/or 3) are transiting through human habitat in search of unrelated BF troups.

BF behaviour, as it pertains to mating, is probably not that different from any other ape or mammal in that matter; young males leave their parent's group and take mates from unrelated groups to form their own family unit. Seems to be hardwired.

On a related note, scientists found several years ago that birds tend to prefer their second cousins as mates vice siblings or total strangers. The theory was that cousins are distant enough relations to safely breed with but are of similar enough genetic structure to allow successful mutations to be reinforced and become dominant. Following this arguement to its logical end, young bull BF would not need to travel tremendous distances to find acceptable mates, only far enough to get away from their parent's troup.

Wasn't there a story about a juvenile male BF having a crush on a human teenage girl?

I've seen others mention that teenage/BF crush here before. If anyone has a link to it, please post!

Thanks!

So the sightings you think are mostly the young looking for mates? That would almost put them in the same catagory as the deer going into rut. Its amazing how many unanswered questions there are and differant people's speculation on all the answers. Ive read once and dont remember where, But there was suposedly a female Sasquatch caught and given from one trible chief to the next untill it was taught domestic abilities ie. fetching water, wood and food. Suposedly the female BF never learned to talk but they ended up breading with her and she had i believe 6 offspring. The first three died because they let her take care of, but after the first three they started taking the children (?) from her and they lived to adulthood and raised children of there own. Someone went to the tribe where they bred with her and couldnt find her body, found the bodies of one of her male offspring. If they are capable of breeding with humans, that leads me to believe they arnt too far out of our gene pool.
Enkidu
^ Think that was in Russia. IIRC, she drown her first three children in icy river water shortly after birth. In the crypto community, I believe current speculation is that she was a Neaderthal or other derivative of homo sapien.

As it pertains to BF speculation; that's why this forum exists. Granted, our methods are very Platonean in nature; think real hard about BF, theorize about biology/behavior, and assume your right until someone else comes up with something better! Not very scientific but it's all we got until physical evidence presents itself!

I read that someplace too, Buck; on the BFRO web site or in a book (seems most likely the BFRO site, if I remember correctly). Don't remember where or when it was reported though.

I remember that story too. Didn't they name her Zena? Or something like that?

You would think if it was true they could hunt down the descendents and DNA test them.....hmmmmm new_whistle.gif

The young males either wander until they create a breeding clan of thier own or they route an aging male and take over his clan.

In all the reports, in all the fleeting glimpses, in all the clear sightings, no one, i mean NO one, has ever seen a male with a bunch of flowers and a box of Godiva chocolates icon_really_happy_guy.gif

Here is a quote about Zana in Bigfoot Sasquatch Evidence by Dr. Krantz. From page 210:

QUOTE
There is no direct evidence remaining of Zana herself, but a photograph of one of her sons shows nothing to indicate a less-than human anatomy.  The remains of this man have been exhumed, and through the courtesy of Igor Bourtsev in Moscow I was able to examine the skull in great detail. It is a perfectly normal specimen of modern Homo sapiens, with slightly stronger jaws and more flare to the zygomatic arches (cheek bones) than is usual.  Under no circumstance could this man's mother have been as primitive as a Neandertal; even a grandparent of this type would have left some anatomical evidence of this ancestry, and it is not there."

and from page 336

QUOTE
On this visit I had another opportunity to see the skull of Khvit, the reported son of the wildwonam Zana, and reconfirmed me earlier diagnosis. It is from a fairly normal, modern human with no trace of Neandertal characteristics, though I would dearly love to have found any such traits

Krantz later goes on to suggest Zana may have come from a late Mesolithic hunting tribe which is his answer for most of the tales of wildmen in Europe/Asia.

I think what he should have said is "Under no circumstance could this man's mother have been as primitive as a FOSSILIZED Neandertal"........unless he knows what a recently deceased Neandertal looks like.

Besides, if the male has the dominant gene, how much the children's bone structure would be inherited from Zana is completely debatable.
