While on a hunting trip in northern Minnesota (Warroad area) we found a bed on a small rise in a tamarac cedar swawp. I have never seen anything like this and maybe there is someone out there that has an expaination. The "bed" was in a small area that had been cleared by breaking off small branches and made of long grass that grows near the open water of the swamp. The grass was heaped-up and formed an oval that was 1 1/2 ft. tall and about 5-6 ft. long at its widest. The grass was fresh and green and the area gave the impression that no one could approach without being heard. The oddest part of the whole thing is the fact that the grass had to be move to this place, it was at least 100 yds through some pretty dense stuff to get down there.

Welcome mnblaster, here is a link to a paper published on the BFRO website.
An Analysis of an Alleged Sasquatch NestThe author posts here on the board and she may be interested in your experience.
Were you able to take any pictures?
Or, did you make a sketch of the "bed" and/or the surrounding area?
More questions, but we'll leave it at that for now.
BTW nice to see another Minnesotan on the board... can't have too many you know.

I never thought of taking any pics. We were grouse hunting in pretty thick stuff and wanted to go as light as possible. The area up there is pretty wild, we also saw a pine martin that day, people tell me that it is rare to see these animals, the year before I saw a Canadian lynx roam through near my deer stand.

If my schedule works out I am planning to head up that way in Sept. If there is anything left of the site I will take some photos. I also did read the material in the "nest link" it was very interesting since I am pretty new to this subject.

Mnblaster, it doesn't sound like something a four-legged animal could make, but is it possible that a human being made it? Perhaps some other hunters who recently had been in the area? The reason I ask is that the last time I went on an outdoor multi-overnight, the roots and rocks I didn't see where really hurting me all night. The next day I found a small meadow and cut a big bunch of grass and soft pine needles and made a "mattress" to lay my sleeping bag on. I never thought of the consequnces of someone finding it later.

I'm sure this is a possibility, but the place where the "bed" was found is in such a hard to acess area. I actually found it by accident because I got turned around in there. There are much better camp site locations close enough that the effort of making this one wouldn't be worth it.

Good to have you out here Mnblaster, did you see any footprints near this possible bedding? Did it look like some thing or someone laid down on it? The next time you go, check to see if there was any hair left on it & if there is you could maybe get some samples. Please post out here if you find anything & don't forget to bring a camera. Check also, I believe the "In Field" threads on this the BFF website for other suggestions to help you, maybe you will come up with something.
