History is cool. This thread is gonna take a week to read.

Thanks DarkRabbit, I'm hoping to have a prototype book ready by Bellingham(!)...not sure if I can do it by then though!
I also owe SnoChoJoe the PDFs, so I'm trying to organize and make sense of the files on my hard drive as I changed "naming schemes" half way through collecting them.
Oh well, as a result, I found a couple more stories I'd past up...
Here's a mention of Bigfoot Lake (named after Bigfoot Indians(?)) in Wisconsin

This one is fun...the original Scoftic? Maybe Greg learned from him...
...I'm not sure how a 1696 reference to "Ourain Outanis" and showing a woodcut of what looks to be an Orang Outang is fakery!
Seems someone's a little touchy about evolution!

These are an awesome goldmine of stuff, but some are hard to read. But I like the artwork illustrations.
It would be nice if they were in plain text, so we can search for key words too, or resize the font.
There are optical character reader (ocr) software that may be able to take your graphic clippings and convert them to text, then spell check it. I remember doing something like that and it was confusing w for vv amongst other quirks. But saved me on a lot of typing.

OK, I think this is the last one I found while making "the book." I took a prototype of it to Bellingham to show around. It turned out pretty well...282 pages! I'm still working on how I'll "publish" it and the price. I'm also going to try to make a 'hi-resolution" PDF of it if I can, as burning a DVD will be much easier than printing 282 pages!
For now, here's a Texas Big Thicket story from 1952. I think they're describing two different individuals in this one, but that is just my opinion!

Looking through Scott's "review copy" of the Historical Archives spurred me to scan some old clippings I found in a copy of John Green's On the Track of the Sasquatch. Although I already had the book, I purchased the copy if only for the clippings.
The first clipping, from the Portand Oregon Journal concerns the publicity tour Roger Patterson conducted during the initial release of his documenatry.

Thanks Tug...now I'll need to re-layout the whole book! HA!

And now the BAD NEWS:
As of now, I've made several copies of the book by hand. But it's a really labor-intensive job to do the 2-sided printing for 282 pages, inserting the cover and other color pages, 3-hole punching, and then binding damn thing! I will probably explore how much it would cost me to produce it at Kinkos. I'm guessing the raw cost would be around $40, but don't really know, as the color pages/binding would be the unknowns. A straight black and white copy would probably be much cheaper.
And now the GOOD NEWS!
I just finished making a high-resolution PDF of the entire 282-page book!

I will keep everyone informed when I make CDs available to people and how much.

This hi-res PDF file on CD would allow people to view/print their own quality color copy...in other words, much easier on me!

But the file is 225mbs, so you'd need a decent computer/printer to open and print it well. But I'm not an expert on that, especially on the PC side.
I'll keep you posted here.

I wanted to thank Tug for adding the clippings! Very cool!
I also wanted to note that it would be great for anyone else who has clippings, to scan and add them! This is an archive in motion...
If you do have stories to add, you should scan them at a high resolution and save them...THEN save them at a lower resolution for posting on this thread. That way, you have the original scan hi-res for quality printing later. I know it means two files but, try it, you'll like it!

FINALLY! I've got the BIG NEWS PRINTS book I made available as a CD-R to purchase online!
You can find pictures of the 283-page book and order the CD-R for $20 (including shipping) at my website here:
http://www.mcclean.org(Paypal makes you fill out all the info, but you do NOT have to set up a Paypal account...they give you the option at the very end. You can also snail mail me a check.)
If any of you were at the Bellingham conference, you may have seen a copy of the book that I printed out and made by hand. This CD-R contains a high-resolution PDF file of that book, so you can print you own copy if you wish. You print the even pages first, then flip them over and print the odd...but it takes some practice!
The PDF is nice as you can take it with you (providing you have a laptop!) and you can zoom into some of the tiny type that is hard to read in the printed version. I'd also recommend copying the PDF to your hard drive before viewing as the screen redraw is much faster than viewing off your CD drive.

I purchaced one of Tirademan's CD's yesterday. I'm looking forward to going through it when I get it. $20 is great price, considering how much work has gone into the production of the thing.
I've already read through some of the material Tirademan has posted, my favorite period for this stuff is the 1970's.

Again, if anyone has any specific stories, dates, or specific things they'd like searched in that newspaper archives, just let me know...there is an amazing amount out there.
I'm going to post a PDF of the index of the book at my website so you can see a chronological list of all the stories contained in the CD-R book. It's a pretty small PDF file as it's the last page of the book and it's all text. Look for it in a few days at mcclean.org if you're interested in seeing the story list.
