I found this Alcoa Presents plot a little interesting...they mention a strong smell.

OK, now I'm not saying this is a Sasquatch related story, but it got me to wondering...how many odd "human attacked" stories are out there without any solutions? Again, I know, most likely a "human only" incident but...

Getting your skull crushed in your own barn? An easy blow with an axe or something yes, but you'd think the investigators could find something if that were the case.

Any way you look at it, you've got to cringe at their "reasoning" on this one...encouraged crime dry.gif

Any of you guys in Oregon have access to the sculptor who did the work on page 14 of this thread? He pops right up in Google and has a museum.

Great thread!

Man, I just keep finding more and more and more...I'm never gonna get the compilation done! wacko.gif

I've got another 40 or so to go through now...I'll try to get to some this weekend.

I found a lot of stuff on Tom Slick, but just general info about his searches. He even wrote a book on Peace!

Here's a VERY detailed description from some California hunters in 1891 that I found today!

Fascinating as usual. Keep them coming, I am reading them all! popcorn2.gif

Here's a couple of the more interesting recent finds....wolfman kills a hyena in India!

I don't think dogs stand a chance against Sasquatch!

I guess this first one could be a gorilla, but I doubt it...he freely mentions monkeys, but explains in detail how this looked like a man...including the head. If it were a gorilla, I'd think he'd compare it to a monkey's appearance.

How does the hoax camp explain these "pre-hype" accounts? new_evil.gif

tirademan
Tirademan
OK, I just realized in that last post he actually mentions that this wild man would "be a greater curiosity than a gorilla." So it seems pretty certain that he is NOT talking about a gorilla.

Here's a good one from Florida - 1900.

Good Afternoon Tirademan,

I have been reading all of your newspaper clippings and thought I would try doing some OCR on them to extract the text so it can be searchable. I have had a modicum of success in doing that, about 70% of the conversion picks up the article. (Here is an example of what I have been able to generate, I also cleaned up the 30% or so of bad characters manually when done.)

Here is the garbled output...then the next section contains the 'cleaned up' version.

I am emailing you for a couple of reasons...

First I wanted to get your permission before making my own online image gallery of the images that you posted public. I am keen on not taking credit for work that I did not do, I will reference your original postings as the source at all times.

Second I would like to attempt to get an effort going in the bf forums to help convert these images to text files, like the article above.
What I will do is run the OCR application on the images and get most of the article completed in text. I can then post the results to the web and allow anyone who wants too, to access the garbled article and clean it up by looking at the original image.

Let me know what you think.

SCJ...I have no problem at all with you posting/scanning the articles. I think it would be cool to be able to search through them as well....AND there may be an easier way! new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

The newspaper website I subscribed to has full newspaper pages posted as PDFs...and they're already searchable! That's how I found them, by doing a full-text search.

So, I didn't even realize it at first, but the text can be extracted DIRECTLY from the PDF files...DUH! I can open the PDF files and then select and copy the text...so somehow they included their OCR into the PDF file! It's a little like OCR though...not perfect. It's a little odd with columns, photos, captions, etc.

Right now though, I'm STILL finding/compiling the hardcopy "book." (I like the "look" of the original stories as well, so creating the .gif images hasn't been a total waste!)

And the PDFs are kind of in chaos on my computer...I've downloaded many, many PDFs that I won't include in the book and are just clutter. I would need to sort and organize all the relavant PDF files and send them to you on a CD.

Hopefully, I can tackle this once I'm done with the hard copy book? biggrin.gif

Let me know what you think. I'm sure it's probably much easier than the OCR route...

OK, I would have thought I would have come across this before, but when I did a cross-check for a Ray Kerr story Loren Coleman had posted, I found this other 1958 story with some choice Wallace quotes. (although I'd guess these quotes are "in the know" already)

Seems I need to do some more searching! wacko.gif

I posted this in text form to Loren's Yahoo Bigfoot eGroup (SnoChoJoe I'm starting to wade through/organize the raw PDFs...if you check the eGroup you'll see how the OCR text "copys" in columns)

tirademan

OK, some more...

Anyone seen this "Scarlet Claw" movie from 1944?

Pretty early for a "Canadian" creature...

She knows what she saw.

tirademan

OK, this one from 1910 is beat up, hard to read, and it's FICTION.

Basically, this chapter details how these travelers thought they were possibly being followed by a "wildman" because of strange tracks...they even theorize that it's a "giant ape." Sort of an interesting discussion regarding what might have caused the tracks...even if it's fiction!

I'm posting it because I think it shows some of the "common knowledge" that was available regarding "wildmen," in that, this writer is using the Wildman motif in his fiction from 1903.

I also had to laugh when I read one of the men exclaim "He was positive bears could walk upright for miles and panthers cross lakes on logs..."

Almost sounds like some current debates! new_whistle.gif

OK, sorry this one is so big...but you have to be able to read it!
