...I guess if someone got a great picture with a camera trap we would have heard of it... Or are the BF really that smart to avoid the setup?...
I doubt any creature is "smart enough" to avoid a camera trap forever. But it's true that a smart creature would know that a trap set (even electronic) "reeks of man".
As a trapper, I can assure you that wolves are quite smart. And if your set goes off without catching a wolf, he becomes "educated". Then he becomes
incredibly smart. You can actually see their work in the snow, avoiding legholds under the snow, working around snares, investigating, and actually leaving when they become too nervous to touch anything. They can become so smart as to CONSISTENTLY take your bait without getting caught. Even with multiple traps (snares, legholds, etc.), they can smell their way right through it. Even when you use wolf urine from another area (even female urine), they can smell your involvement. Their nose "knows".
But a camera trap can be set from trees, or otherwise far from the bait, with only the shutter "trigger" at the bait. Your major problem will be battery life in both camera and trigger, and the scent of the electronic "trigger".
And what good would such a trap be, anyway? Behold what folks are doing with the PG film. Like the kill-community among us say, only a dead body will solve the "mystery" conclusively.
But.......
Come to think of it, some good photos can be as financially lucrative as a best seller. Indeed, good photos can be perfect for someone who is greedy enough to want profit from sasquatch while still ultimately protecting them: the photos can bring in money, and the skeptical reception from those who will deny the existance of sasquatch even after you rub their noses in a carcass will keep society in the denial attitude.
