I work nights, and even on my days off I tend to remain active at night and sleep during the day so that I don't throw my sleep schedule too far off. This morning as I was laying here sleeping, something woke me out of a deep sleep. At first I thought maybe something was bothering the dog and she had been barking, but nope. silence except for the radio playing softly in the background. I continued listening when suddenly a single word said on the radio by some call in guest brought me to full alert.. "BIGFOOT".

The person was recanting the Dr. Matthew Johnson story from July 1, 2000 of his sighting near the Oregon Caves, but couldn't remember his name or many of the details. In my sleep drunken stupor I grabbed the phone and quickly dialed the number of the local talk show... a soft elderly woman's voice answered the phone, I assumed it was the screener, and I blurted out...

Me: "I'm calling to talk to you about the bigfoot that was seen not too far away."
Her: "Bigfoot?? The MONSTER?"
Me: "Yes!"
Her: " OH MY GOD! Where?"

It was then I realized I had dialed the wrong number! Oh Boy... probably scared some poor old granny half to death! I apologized and redialed the CORRECT NUMBER!

Anyway I made it on the air, and gave the host the pertinent information, and have followed that up with a number of web links in an email for him to check out.. including this site. I promise in the future never to call a talk show until AFTER a cup or two of coffee or something with caffeine in it!

I'm a night person, too. And from one night person to another, I've gotta say reading this post was a great way to get the day going. Got me in a good mood early, so thanks.

But the poor lady! Making her think there was a bigfoot at her door, and all.

The interview went well, both on Dr. Johnson's part, and that of the local host of the show, Bill Meyer. Dr. Johnson's story is still clear, concise and exact with no recantings, or changing of the facts he brought forth back in July of 2000. Which, in my opinion, adds to the credibility of what was reported in the first place. For those of you who may not be familiar with his story, it can be seen at http://www.oregon1.org/bigfoot.htm in his own words, as reported 5 1/2 hours after the incident.

There was no question and answer session after the interview so at least as of yet, I have no idea of what the general mood of the regular listeners are regarding Dr. Johnson, and his story. My hat must go off to host Bill Meyer, who directed this interview in a truly professional manner. There was no heckling, attempting to trap or skewing of any evidence Dr. Johnson brought forth, while he was on the air, or after he left. Mr. Meyer allowed Dr. Johnson to tell his story without constant interuption and pretty much remained invisible during the presentation of the evidence. When Mr. Meyer did question Dr. Johnson, his questions were intelligent, honest, and respectful. Sometimes it amazes me that such a talent is found on a local level, that surpasses many of the nationally known personalities.
