Three days ago police here chased a 200 lb black bear through a heavily populated area of the city before being forced to kill it (wouldn't go up a tree so they could tranquilize it). This is a city of about 700,000, and the bear would have had to go through about 3 miles of it to get to the place where it was killed. The place in question was along the moderately treed Red River which runs north from the U.S., through Winnipeg, and empties into Lake Winnipeg about 40 miles north of the city. I also know someone who sighted a cougar along the same river about half a mile south of the city. Given that the area is heavily populated, this is highly unusual. Have there ever been instances where people have reported sasquatch sightings several miles into a city (where there are rivers present)?
