Here's one for inquisitive minds....
I've been to Hockamock swamp to investigate bigfoot sightings for several years now. During my last day trip, I found that someone had been threading very long strands (yards and yards) of yarn along the tall grass heading into the swamp area. I found these along the powerline trails woven in and out of the tall grass about four and a half feet off the ground. There were several places where something had "broken through" the yarn and headed into the swamp (probably just deer, but maybe something more mysterious).
Can anyone figure a purpose for stringing yarn along the perimeter of the swamp like that? Could it be deer hunters looking for patterns? Occultists doing some kind of odd ritual? Or maybe even BF researchers looking for travel patterns?
Anyone have any theories on this?

Sounds to me like the method that some deerhunters use called "funneling". This method is used to encourage deer to walk close to a hunter's blind, or treestand.
When a hunter finds an area that is being used as a general pathway for deer but there's no one specific trail to hunt close to, it is possible to take yarn, fishing line, or even green vines or dead saplings to make a gate of sorts to assist in determining the specific path a deer will take. Supposedly it's a very effective method, but I've never used it.

Could it be people stringing yarn to help find their way out of an area? There are better things for that though than yarn.

Thanks guys,
I think Welby's explanation seems the most plausible, as the yarn was thread along the swamp's perimeter and not through the swamp itself. I had never heard of "funneling" until now. Makes sense. This annoying little "Nat" of a question has been buzzing around my brain for quite some time now. Welby, I think you slapped this issue "dead" with your one post, at least as far as I am concerned.
