this weekend worm (my sister) and i were watching another show on bigfoot. i think it was called bigfoot and other monsters or something like that. (yay tivo)

part of the show had a person stating that you very rarely find the remains of any forest creature that died a natural death. makes sense, what's one guys death is another ones meal. no?

so worm turns to me and says " maybe the bigfoot are cannibals and thats why we never find their bones." "they eat all the remains. so they're never found".

i did a search on 'cannibal' to see if this has been hashed over already and didnt find anything. but i have to say i SUCK at using the search page.

SO. what do you think? i told worm i would pose the question for her here, she's interested to know ....

I would tend to think 'not'. No data availible, just my opinion.

Anyway, they would need a damn big cauldron to cook them up in. new_whistle.gif

I think this has been discussed a bit somewhere in here gael. But, if I remember correctly, the discussion was in direct response to a comment Janice Coy made of the "bigfeet on the farm". She stated in MG's book that they didn't eat each other. dry.gif

Interesting theory though. Sure makes you wonder. smile.gif
Bitter Monk
Humans, chimps, and other great apes have all been shown to practice cannabalism on one level or another.

Well I am not so sure what to think about this subject. If you go and read some of the old Indian legends they talk about very rarely that "Bigfoot" or what ever name they called them some times preyed on them. Most animals do some cannibalism of some sort. From deer chewing on antlers that fell off to male bears eating young cubs and such. I have seen squirrel attack and kill a small snake and then start eating it. Thinks that most people would never eat meat will when they get a chance eat it. And will even eat their own some times. Mother mice will some times eat their own babies if times are tough and all.

So could Bigfoot be a cannibal ? I am not sure. A lot of old time people from different places would eat their dead. They would do it to honor the dead and all. They would never kill someone to eat them but let someone die and they think it is the right thing to do. I would be willing to bet that in some places that still is going on deep in the jungles and all.

I would rather believe that Bigfoot carry off their dead to a secret place and dispose of them some way. Be it to dig a hole and put them in it like we do, Or some other way. I remember a very old lady friend of mine that passed away many years ago, She told me a story of how the old Seminoles here if Florida would hollow out a tree put the body in and seal it back up. She said that some times the tree would even keep on living but even if not no one could tell that a body was put in it unless they know just where and what to look for.

We are modern humans can not understand cannibalism very well. But 100 years ago in some places it was a very common things. It still happens but not near as often and when it does most times they are charged with a crime if it is reported.
But Bigfoot could just be like humans in the past as well as some other animals and think it is ok or a honor to eat their dead.

Oh and it is know that other large Apes do from time to time eat meat and as well are cannibals. Chimps have been known to hunt and kill other monkeys for them to eat. I seem to remember someone saying that orangutans doing it as well but I could be wrong about that one.

In the 1950's scientists were curious why the Fore tribe, a "Stone Age Tribe" of New Guinea was being decimated by a disease known as Kuru, or The Laughing Death. Symptoms of this disease are difficulty walking, incoordination, and difficulty in swallowing. At first they thought it was genetic, but later began pointing the finger at the tribes practice of eating their deceased loved ones as part of the funeral festivities. It turns out that Kuru is a prion based disease, like mad cow disease, a form of spongiform encephalopathy.

Now you have apes eating each other, and the least developed of man eating each other, if bigfoot rests somewhere between these species, there's no reason not to think it's a possibility.

But even if they do eat each other, that wouldn't eliminate bones. It would just scatter the bones around, same as a BF that croaked by itself and had its body consumed by scavengers or the elements.

thank you very much for your input. i have printed the posts and given them to worm to read, as she's very interested to know what you guys thought.

i have no idea what i think about the issue. i've read the reports of scat being found with deer hair/skin in it, so i do believe they eat meat, especially after the hog-killing report.

as far as the bones go, maybe they bury them, or keep them in a cave or something. or make jewelry (KIDDING!)

There was a show on the Travel Channel last night about cannbalism among this tribe. "Cannibalism: The Taboo" or something like that. It was very unnerving to say the least, but interesting also. They did make mention of one fact that really disturbed me. The report said that women of the tribe are much more likely to make repeat visits to the "site of the feast" (many of them bury the tribe member for a time before partaking), than the men are. new_stun.gif
