Yep, smooching on Bob Gimlin will always be a highlight of my life!
The expedition was well worth my time and effort. If anyone is thinking about the Washington and New Mexico ones, just spending time with Gimlin is more than worth it.
To just quickly describe what happened on Friday night, May 7th... Bob Strain, John Freitas, Montra DuMond, myself, and five participants (participants and BFRO members were broken up into different groups) had gotten access to some private land. The land owner had a close sighting 4 years ago.
When we got there, we were out of the cars about 1 minute when I heard a call from down in the valley (we were on a ridge overlooking the most beautiful valley!). We started call blasting and got four return calls, but they seemed to be about 1/4 of a mile or so away. It was pitch black - no moon and no lights on).
We had stationed two participants near the tree line and staggered the rest of us along the ridge. Slowly the two participants near the tree line starting moving closer and closer to me and Bob. Bob went down to talk to them and they said that something was walking around in the trees and that they feeling very apprehensive and tense. One of the participants had such a strong fear reaction that he said he could not be down there anymore. Bob and the two participants came back and I went to check things out. I had a strong distinct feeling I was being watched and headed back up the hill...strangely, I was actually afraid to turn my back to the trees!
We decided to move them and put two other participants down there instead. We did not tell them why they were being moved or what had happened. Slowly, they started creeping away from the tree line and reported that they were "creeped out" and that something was moving in the trees and watching them.
To make a long story short, I called Montra down from the area she was at and she and I walked down to within 5-10 feet of the treeline. The men were behind us, up the hill, but watching what we were doing. Again, there were no lights on, no moon, nothing but starlight.
As we both approached the area, Montra said that she felt that we were being watched and pointed to a certain tree as the location of the feeling. I completely agreed. We talked briefly about how different we felt than when were in the field in Tahoe and this wasn't a "good feeling." The feeling got so intense that I was getting upset (very unlike me, trust me!). The hair on the back of my neck started to stand up, and I began to grab Montra's arm so we could leave.
Just then, about 2-3 feet off the ground, a set of red orbs (eyes??) "flickered" on...when I say flickered, I mean like a glow stick..it slowly became red, and was a soft glow...not like an LED light, or anything like that. Montra say it as the two "eyes" rose to about 6 feet of the ground and then faded (closed its eyes??). I looked at her and said "Did you see that?" She said "Yes" and asked me the same thing. We "walked" back up to the guys, who hadn't seen anything, and told them what had happened. We tried our nightvision, but it could not get through the canopy.
Anyway, later, just after whatever it was stopped moving in the trees and things seemed to go back to normal, John Freitas reported that something had walked just under the hill he was standing on.
We examined the area, found nothing, but determined that the "eyes" were not in the tree, but in front of an opening in the canopy. Matt M. later found some prints in the treeline above us.
That is just a brief explanation of what we saw. We are in no way saying it was a bigfoot...I just described what I saw, nothing else. I don't believe in UFOs, random orbs, or anything like that. This has a physical explanation, I just don't have right it right now!
Hope that helps!
