Full Version: The Find Of The Century!

So, a guy I work with sees me browsing the forums today, and he tells me that his mom gave him a box of books to dispose of. Since most of the books were in pretty crappy condition, he was just going to toss them. He said that she had an interest in BF, so there may be some books in there that I could have. After work I go to the guy's house, and he actually has a couple of boxes full of books. As I'm going through them, I'm starting to get a little disappointed. Then I find it! In really good condition, it is a first edition copy of John Green's Sasquatch: The Apes Among Us! The book still has the dust jacket which is in pretty good shape. No tears! The book itself is extremely clean with no bent pages, no markings, no spine damage...nothing! Did I say no markings? There is some ink on the title page. Right under John Green's name someone signed "John Green." new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

I have been dying to get a copy of this book, and have been tempted to fork over some major bucks to get a copy. I'm glad I didn't! I told my co-worker that he could get some decent money on eBay for it, but he just said, "Take it." I made him call his mom and tell her about the autograph and what the book might be worth, and she said she had asked Green to sign it at some kind of symposium in the early eighties. She said that she was quite done with the book, and it was mine to keep or sell! Woohoo! I am so flippin' stoked! new_lmaosmiley.gif

Okay, maybe not the find of the century, but pretty dang cool! new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

Not that I don't trust the woman, but does anyone know where I can find an image of John Green's signature, just in case? new_whistle.gif

I'll try to scan it for you today. He was kind enough to sign a few of my books at the Symposium last tear.

Considering how much he dislikes signing books, Green seems to have signed a heck of a lot of them !

Wildman, you're a lucky man indeed! wink.gif

I'm lucky enough to have a signed copy too. Hopefully all these signatures look alike. laugh.gif

Excellent find, Wildman!! thumbup.gif
That's a DISCOVERY to make your day! week! month!!
I've been wanting to read that book, too. I think I'm going to buy a re-issue from Hancock House.
I'll check my JG autographs that I got at the symposium on his other books.

Here's one, Wildman.

Wildman-- You showed a lot of class by telling your friend the value of that find and then informing his mother. I'm glad you got it. That was really cool of you. new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

That's the signature! The signature in my book is almost exactly like the one you've shown here. My book was signed with a blue ball-point pen. I'm really stoked about my find!

BTW, is the museum in Felton still planning on opening it's doors first weekend in May? I haven't been up that way to see the progress yet. Looking forward to it! new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

I am a guilty person by nature, so there was no way I could have taken that book without letting them know of it's possible value. It would make me miserable. I couldn't even enjoy the book if I hadn't said anything! If they decided to keep it and sell it, I would have made them a decent offer. However, free is good! new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

i have a 1968 copy of "on the track of sasquatch" by john green that someone had given me back in 99, and it has john greens signature, and it pretty much matches bigfoot dad's book signature, great find!!!!! new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

Hi Wildman!

The Bigfoot Discovery Project is slated to open on Memorial Day Weekend. new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

The date has been pushed back a few weeks. I spoke with Mike on Friday and all is progressing well. They have been storing some BIG surprises in the building that will house the museum and archives, so now that it's clear, he will begin working on the displays. Everything else is right on schedule. and, most importantly, he got his t-shirt delivery! thumbup.gif

I hope to see you there and many others! Maybe we can plan an overnight stay at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park for a group of BFF folks sometime this summer. Campfire, barbeque, smores...bigfoot stories!! new_lmaosmiley.gif
It's right across Hwy 9 from the museum.

the website is up for the most part....
