My birthday is March 31st, a couple days after my birthday my mother gave me a belated birthday gift. Greg Long's "The Making Of Bigfoot". Now I can't blame my Mom. She loves her son. She's bought me everything from Ivan Marx's "Legend Of Bigfoot" film, to books by John Green, Roger Patterson and Ivan Sanderson in past birthdays. Mom knows I love Sasquatch related items. I've had a curious fascination with the idea of such "giants" living in the vast unexplored forests and mountains near my home. She told me she was "sorry", and that at the time she had no idea this was the book that was being plugged on a show I reluctantly watched on MSNBC. She only knew it was a new book about the Sasquatch.
Now y'see I've always kept an open opinion to the PG film. Recently, I have become friends with a Native American who not only told me that "they (the Sasquatch creatures) exist.", but also told me that the PG film is "real". He told me how as a child he would visit his grandmother's cabin out in the woods, only to hear loud noises, grandma would say "Oh its them again!" Grandma would grab some food from the kitchen, open the door toss the food into the nearby bushes outside, and slam the door shut. My friend would peak out the window, and see a number of Sasquatch creatures slowly come thru the bushes and pick up the food. Some would eat them right in plain view, others would slowly back away, and disappear. My friend told me that the creatures he saw then, look exactly like the creature on the PG film. I have no reason to doubt this person. To my friend the Ray Wallace "death of Bigfoot" was a real joke. To my friend Greg Long's book is as well.
The news media angers me with their apparent lack of concern for the facts, but they seem to have plenty of concerns for the big ratings they need. To the media Sasquatch news and research are as important as mentioning the results of pro wrestling matches during the sports review. A wrestler dies while in the ring. Oh that's news! A man says "I'm the guy in the famous film!" Oh that's news! Please... The interview with Bob H. did little to convince me. I believe my friend after all, and he says the creature on the film is real.
When my Mom presented me with the book she gave me an idea. "I know you'll probably hate it, but hey maybe it could be a door stopper in the rec room." Great idea Mom! And so was to be the fate of Mr. Long's book. a door stopper. However ... curiosity got the better of me. I picked up the book. I flipped thru the pages. Fun stuff. Mr. Long goes into the book swinging down any previous idea we may have had of who Roger Patterson was. Seems Roger is a liar, a cheat, and a thief. Wow like I care. The film subject is what matters to me. Ever since the film came about it has had strongly opinionated critics, or a "man in a suit" confessions. Greg Long, and Bob H. is this generations strongly opinionated critic, and "man in the suit" confessor. Let them ramble. Let them try to prove how fake the film is. The X-Creatures couldn't do it. I find it interesting that over the years the people who support the film still do, while those who oppose the film seem to disappear and are not heard from again.
I wish I hadn't picked up the book, I can only hope that someone can write a book about Mr. Long and look into his past, as he did with Roger. At least Mr. Long would be alive to defend himself. I would like to add that we can already add the word "cheat" in reference to Mr. Long. He cheated us all. He had the chance to write a book with an open mind to the film being real or a hoax. He chose to deny us all the chance to make proper judgment with his insistence that Roger Patterson and his film are a fraud, and choosing to only get as much "dirt" on Patterson he could find, and not all the facts. Bad news sells. Greg Long's book sells. Then again... Furbys and Spice Girls CDs sold good for a time too.
I'm happy though. My rec room has a nice expensive door stopper, and I'm just about to read the other book I got for my birthday its called "Raincoast Sasquatch". Gotta love Mom. Hopefully its better than Mr. Long's book... Just my opinion. Thanks for reading.
