In my younger days I don't necessarily remember a lot of (or any) reports coming from Vancouver Island (except maybe the Muchulat (sp) Harry episode) but it seems more and more reports have come from there as of late (either from an earlier time and/or more recent). Given its geographic limitations (relatively small in land area and bound by water), why isn't a more concerted and concentrated effort being spent 'looking around' over there? We're surely not having 'all the luck in the world' in OTHER places on the mainland. Just seems that IF there is anything over there the chances that some of the evidence, if not the creature itself, would 'show up' eventually with any amount of serious investigation. Anyway, just curious. wink.gif

You are probably right Harry! If Bindernagle, or someone, would want to put a group together and do a structured sweep of the island from the interrior to the west coast..then, in all likelyhood, something might come out of it!
They have been seen a fair bit on the west coast of the island. But they are also able to island hop to smaller islands, as well.
Even with all of this considered, it would still cost money to launch an investigation, there, here, or anywhere. Money and bodies who have the time and the right attitude for the proceedings!
Guns, in my opinion, have no place in a sweep!
Take a page out of Dahinden's book..and make sure that you have found something ...before you run off to trap and hunt it! Keep the priorities right and it will all come together!
...again...money, time..and willing bodies...

Vancouver island is still a very big body of land, and is extremely rugged in many places. It would not be easy to do a 'sweep' of the island. That said, it's probably a good a place as any to go look. Just watch out for the cougars. They are nasty on the island.

I don't think it would be easier to do a sweep there, or any harder, then any other place with mountainous terrain! While Vancouver Island might be large, it is none the less, an island. Which makes it a perfect controlled (bordered) environment for a hunt.
The sightings are equal in number to any other part of British Columbia. I would say that the island is a hotspot. But again, it would take months of time and bodies and money. You'd need another Tom Slick for that enterprise! laugh.gif

That's it exactly, it's a bit more 'controlled' by having water on all sides so in theory you have a more finite area regardless of it's true size...or at least the perception of one. I know there's the 'Bigfoot just swims to the mainland as you're hot on his tail' FACTOR in there but I was just thinking with the seeming 'plethera' of sightings coming out of there lately, it sure couldn't be the WORST place to look AND it seems to be an under-utilized search area. As a point of information, the entire area is LESS than the land area of the combination of San Diego county and Imperial county (which is basically the bottom 60 miles tall 'band' across So. California). Anyway, it was all just a thought anyway, not a mandate. icon_really_happy_guy.gif

I've seen Vanc Island represented as a big time hotbed of recent activity, but can't remember where.

I think it might have been during John Kirk's EXCELLENT presentation at the 2003 TBRC hootenanny.

Harry,
I found an interesting little article about Sasquatches on Vancouver Island..from John Bindernagel himself. I'd say he'd be a very good contact if you were to set up an expedition. Here it is:

I don't think a military style sweep of the area is necessarily possible, but some sort of survey would be a good and worthwhile idea. And given the encroachment of humans reproducible sightings might be possible. thumbup.gif

If we could find them time and again, we might be able to convince the scientific establishment of their existence w/ouy a corpse. new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

wahwhoo! Let's put something together. new_lmaosmiley.gif
