Howdy. New member here. I live in the Matanuska Valley, north of Anchorage. Been here since 1974.

I've worked and played in the woods up here the whole while. I've never seen sign of Sasquatch around here, but I've heard rumors. I doubt most of them, but not all. I'd sure like to look around right after a reported sighting.

I grew up in Orange County, Calif, and did my share of running around in the Sierras. When I was a Boy Scout, and on a 50 mile hike north of Porterville (near a place called Soda Springs), we saw tracks that could have been the real thing. Only one footprint was really clear, but it sure seemed to settle it for us.

I've believed these things exist since boyhood, even before the Patterson event. I remember when Argosy Magazine first published the Patterson sighting. I've also gone to Bluff Creek, just cause I was in the area. I believe the Patterson film is authentic.

A couple of the well-known reports I believe that are authentic include the William Roe sighting, the Clayton Mack stories, and the Jacko story. I believe many of the lesser known reports that I've read.

I also believe many reports are mistaken or hoaxes.

It appears to me that the primary range of these creatures is the Coast Range from Northern California to perhaps the upper reaches of the Southeast Alaska Panhandle.

Although I'm a bit north of that, there are occasional reports of sightings near here. But the Alaskan reports I most believe are authentic are those in the Illiamna-Togiak region, and those in Southeast Alaska.

But I look forward to an opportunity to investigate a fresh report within a day's drive of here. I've been hunting Alaska hard statewide for moose, bear, deer, and caribou for many years. I consider myself a seasoned outdoorsman.

Any Alaskans out there interested in any future report investigations locally?

Welcome aboard! You will find many here that have a ton of information to share with you. Feel free to pass on any experiences you might have had.

On the range issue, there have been sightings in every state with the exception of Hawaii. Some states are much more active than others with the Pacific Northwest being the busiest in my opinion.

Enjoy your time here!

Welcome, Huntster!

You need to check out Rob Alley's great book "Raincoast Sasquatch". It's all about the SE Alaska Panhandle area and would most likely be of great interest to you. You can purchase it at http://www.hancockhouse.com/products/raisas.htm

For what it's worth, my avatar is a picture directly out of that book.

Happy reading!!! smile.gif

Hunster, welcome. I've got some real interesting sighting reports you might be interested in. Talked to a guy last fall who took me out to a spot on the Old Glenn Hwy towards matanuska glacier where he and his wife saw a bigfoot. I also have an interesting article about numerous sightings in the birchwood area, from years ago though. I dug up a story about a possible er probable human death by a bigfoot somewhere above Bird Creek. I would have to look up the articles for details, but I do have a few. I saw bigfoot in the Illiamna area a few years ago. But last summer I participated in an incident that really aroused my curiosity. So I started doing some research on them in Alaska. Susan is right on about Roberts book! You can order it right off the link she posted, I read the book then contacted Robert. Seems like a nice guy, we still haven't managed to get togeather, but I'm sure we will eventually. Please forgive any spelling, grammer mistakes. I'm writing a book, (not on bigfoot, at least not yet) and have been working 16 to 18 hours a day for the last week or two. I have not been on this web page for quite a few weeks, just decided to check it out before I went to bed. Anyway I saw your post and had to reply. If you feel like talking to me send me your phone # to my e-mail address and I'll give you a call. spikeace@webtv.net maybe we can get togeather and compare notes. Spike

The low sightings count in Alaska more than likely has to do with the low human population, rather than the lack of Sasquatches. Or maybe they just don't like the cold.

Huntster, here's a recent thread containing links to AK sighting's. For your perusal: http://www.bigfootforums.com/index.php?showtopic=4241

Thanks for the warm welcome, folks.

I checked out the Rob Alley book on the website Susan cited, which allowed me to read a chapter. I'm hooked! I've been to many of the places mentioned. I ordered the book.

Is there an organized investigation group in the Southcentral Alaska area that anyone might know of? Or Southeast, for that matter?

I'll be sending Spikeace an email (as soon as I fix my home computer). I read of one local report of a sighting near Knik Glacier years ago, but it was an old report when I heard it, and it sounded doubtful (but, then, what do I know?).

Huntster...

I have a cabin 14 miles outside of Talkeetna. I was there 8 years ago for a year and did not personally witness anything odd; however, a few "odd" things happened on the property but I then attributed them to grizzlies and moose.

Over pints one night after The Moose Dropping Festival, I overheard a few "locals" in a long discusion regarding Bigfoot at one of the bars in town. The general thought was "sure... why couldn't they be around here." One guy insisted that he had a personal sighting years back. Nothing conclusive.

I might go up to the cabin this fall... what town are you in?

Come Up To Talkeetna... I'll Buy You A Pint,

QuatchWatcher:

Thanks for the offer. I've never been to the Moose Droppings, but I get up to Talkeetna regularly. I'm in Palmer.

Maybe we can keep in touch, and on one of my trips up there we can meet for a beer.

Sounds good Friend!

Will let you know as the time comes closer...

Rock On,

Hunster, that sighting I went to check out by the galcier was on the Old Glenn Hwy between Pioneer Peak and Goat Mountain. It was a very recent sighting at the time. I went out there within thirty days of the initial sighting. The terrain is extremly rough. Very steep mountains, galciers, not the kind of territory that welcomes hikers. Its more like mountain climbing country. I mean just the name Goat Mountain should tell you something about it. If you get a chance look up "An Alaskan Mystery" it's one of the topics in this forum. I posted details of my sighting in that post months ago hoping to get some information on the location of the story that started that page. I don't know if I mentioned this but I live in Anchorage. Look forward to hearing from you. Spike

Spikeace:

The Knik Glacier report I'd read about was in the Frontiersman sometime in the late 80's. A hunter reported (I don't know to whom) that he watched a Bigfoot through his binocs trying unsuccessfully to stalk Dall sheep. Precisely where in the area wasn't detailed.

I did read through the Alaska Mystery thread. I noticed Anthracite Ridge mentioned. I've been through there a couple of times on the Purinton Creek trail. All those trails that connect up in that region (Knik-Chickaloon-Nelchina System) I've been on extensively. It's beautiful country, but doesn't appear to be ideal Sasquatch habitat like coastal rain forest terrain.

Is that cabin of yours up in the Yentna region?

I am living in Orange County and am going to Alaska for the first time in August (cruise with my wife). It has been a while but I remember in the Glickman report (I believe he is a forensic analyst who wrote an intresting report of the Sasquatch Phenomenon, which I am sure you and most people on this site know) but anyway he used a statistical analyses to try to determine the locations where you might most likely encounter a sasquatch. I question his logic a little because he used too broad of an area and it was too generalized, but Alaska was by far the most likely place to encounter a bigfoot, (as posted earlier, based primarily on the small human population vs. the number of encounters). I think it would be better if you could somehow exclude the urban populations in each area and try to get a sensus of the people in the forest and then I am not so sure Alaska would win.
