Found this article over at the New York Times online. A thought occured to be.

According to the article all humans have the gene, but other primates don't. I have to wonder, does Bigfoot have it?

How about testing for it when testing hair samples etc.?

Just a thought.

There's no DNA in hair, only in hair follicles (root bulbs). That's why the finding of a Yeti hair with an attached follicle a few years back was so important. When its DNA was analyzed by top DNA expert Sykes at Oxford, it came back "unknown animal"--but his lab has samples of all known animals' DNA. This is one of the strongest bit of evidence for the existence of a relict hominid. And if one exists, the existence of others is much more believable.

(I've read that the FBI or someone is working on a new technique to get DNA from hair alone, but I'm not sure what's happened with that, or if it has, if it's cheap enough to be practicable.)

While they cant do DNA from a hair strand they can compare it to other known animals for a visual match. While this is certainly not as defining as DNA analysis, its certainly more than nothing and I for one would still not hesitate to collect hair should I find it.

Interesting article MM.
