The subject has been skirted around on various posts.but njever really discussed as far as I can tell.curious to see how many of you think some of the sightings of a Bf are due to misplaced animals in general(which really does make them cryptids anyway.)Also the post about the Liger got me thinking that if a primate like a gorilla or something and a bf could mate (Paul mentioning Zana made me think about this.)creating a hybrid that may be responsible for some of the different track finds and sightings of quadrupedal animals that occur ?Hmmm.. now after reading back over this I'm wondering if I'm A hybrid laugh.gif

I think a better way to phrase the question is what percentage of sightings are due to misplaced animals. There's thousands of records in the BFRO alone. If that's the question, then I'd guess less than 10%. I mean, how many escaped chimps, orangs, and apes can there be out there?

I don't know. What does everyone else think? icon_confused.gif

I agree with you Bipto, There can only be so many out there that have escaped or let go. I know what came up by my house was not escaped or gotten out from anywhere. It lived there, cause it was there too long to have just escaped and it had a young one too.So my vote would be less than 10%.

Its possible that escapee's decendents could be living in north america from the circus boom of the 1880-1950s. There have been a couple sightings of orangs in the appalachian mountains (confirmed orangs).

There is also the probability of escapee's from private collections. Many of which will never be reported to the proper authorities because the collector may not have the proper papers for the collection, making it illegal.

This not only goes for apes, but for big cats too. I recall a lion that Crabtree found down in LA (deceased and decomposing) a few years back. Also cougar reports on the east coast (yes, there are some wild ones moving back in, but most seem too desensitised to humans).

But for mis-identified animals in sasquatch reports, i'd have to say alot less than ten percent. There guys are huge, not likely to be misconstrued with a gorrilla.

I don't believe the idea that a lot of the sightings are misidentifications. That means that most people would have to not be aware of what a bear or gorilla or orangutan looks like. I think almost everyone has been to a zoo and knows what they look like. Especially a bear for crying out loud, there is a BIG different between a bear and a bigfoot. I think some of them are misindetifications, but not many.

I do think that some of the sightings might be due to primates that have been released or escaped. I think this in the case of the Myakka photos.
I think it probably happens more often in southern areas than the northern areas because of the illegal trade areas for animals like these. I don't think it happens a lot though, the descriptions do not describe orangutans or gorillas that often.

I am not running on 100% today and it probably shows in my posts, so bare with me...LOL

"Isn't that nice?"
It's like we don't have enough to do regarding the desensitization of people toward BF but now we have another possiblity regarding what it is... escaped exotic wildlife, in this case orangs, chimps and maybe even gorillas. I know that Florida and California are among the leaders in the exotic animal trade.
Now why anyone would presume sasquatch is an orang or gorilla, I understand. But how many of these are there out there especially as Arky says, regarding the north?
Very nice indeed smile.gif

This reminds me of a joke :
Two Jewels of the South were having coffee on morning, when one said to the other, " Mah husband bought me this huge diamond ring when we got married." The other replied "Thats nice."

The first then said, "He bought me this Grand Ol Mansion too." The second said, "Thats nice."

The first then said "When our child was born, he bought me this 4 door mecedes." ... "Thats nice"

"What did your husband do for you when you got married?"
The second replied, "Why, he sent me to Charm School."
"My lands child .. whatever for???"

The second relied with a snicker and a grin, " So instead of telling someone, "who gives a rats ass", i can say "Thats nice." ".
