After a long think I have found myself pondering an important question.

Who is more fascinating, Bigfoot (who we all know is out there) or the tireless hard-working cryptozoological community (who, at times, we may consider too varied and certainly far too imaginative to possibley exist)

Goood Question!!if you take all the personalities involved in cryptozoo. and Bf research(hoaxers and goofs included)you could probably write a great doctoral thesis for a Psych course.or sociololgy for that matter.at the moment I'd have to say the researchers are as interesting as the subject itself only cause I haven't talked to the big guy yet. 8)

Funny you should ask! Before I got the internet and learned about Bigfoot research and researchers, I would never have guessed what bloated, touchy egos some of them have. That is not putting anyone down, just stating the undisputed truth about only some of them. I love them anyway since we all have feelings and nearly everybody has some sort of ego hangup--for me, it's my size, LOL! icon_mad.gif I've found that on some message boards, I can write a perfectly (to me) innocuous post, never meant to offend anyone, and get reprimanded for it and told I've been offensive to some. So I have accepted the corrections and filed them under "live and learn". Those of yall who know me know I would never intentionally hurt anyone's feelings or offend anyone! But apparently some professionals are a "touchy" bunch. Since I love people and Bigfeet both, but people first, I'd say it's a tie. Great post, Arky and everybody. laugh.gif icon_razz.gif biggrin.gif

Hey, Ella, I'm offended! My feelings are hurt! I'm...just kidding! laugh.gif

I think anyone who's willing to investigate a cryptid based on evidence in a scientific way, even if that pursuit leads them to disproving the cryptid in question, is OK by me. However, there are those in the larger cryptozoology world who will believe anything they hear just because it's unknown or dismissed by science. A lot of these people, it seems to me, just like to disagree with the 'authority' of mainstream science. They'll believe just about anything. These are not my people!

A good example of this is the whole flying rod thing. Personally, I'm fascinated by these. I have no idea what they are and make no claims to the contrary. However, I think they deserve further investigation. If someone told me they were investigating them, I'd say good for you! If someone told me they were investigating them because they were sure they were beings sent here by an alien intelligence to scope out the planet prior to our eventual invasion, I'd back away slowly and hide the knives.

Maybe I'll see if I can write an article - theres enough interesting material on the subject for a book!

I know where you are coming from Ella and I know exactly what you are talking about. I read all the forums. Don't feel alone in that, because Fishbone and I both have had similar experiences with the "touchy" bunch!

The organizations I'm thinking of shall be nameless as far as I'm concerned. I have high respect for both of them. The one I was thinking of is, besides BFF, my favorite Bigfoot-specific message board and I will only say it is NOT Arky's or Ranshirl's, but a major-major one. I received posts from the moderator for the following: 1. For mentioning the names of two prominent researchers on their message board because they belong to another organization and people on the board I posted on didn't like those two I mentioned. 2. For "promoting" the work of a dear friend and best little crypto researcher in Texas in my opinion, because he just published a wonderful new book on southern Bigfeet and I was raving about it in my post. I was not trying to sell books for the man, he does not need my help for that. His work sells itself and then some. I was only sharing my excitement and hopefully informing those who might want to read the book as to how they could find it. SO I wrote back an apology for my ignorance on both issues and said life is about living and learning, which it is.

Another major message board's moderator wrote me that he could not post my post because it was a "personal" response. The poster, a dear friend too for whom I have the highest respect, had jokingly posted to "kill it first and sort it out later", speaking of an unknown creature in the woods. I wrote back, "Do you think you have to kill everything you can't identify?" Well, I apologized for being brash. The young man I posted the response to is wonderful and I meant no harm, I didn't know him then like I do now.

On that same board, I posted about "gun-crazy Texans", which is true, I live with one (my brother, who has never killed a wild creature in his life), and got slammed for that as "insulting all educated Texans" by lumping them with ignorant rednecks. Since I'm an ignorant redneck my ownself, I didn't realize anyone would be offended.

SO: Live and learn. That's what I was talking about. I've had to learn to walk on eggshells. Those who know surely know that I'm not into offending people. Bipto and Arky, yall know that! biggrin.gif sad.gif  icon_cry.gif icon_mad.gif icon_eek.gif laugh.gif

P.S. Chester Moore, Jr.'s new book is called "Bigfoot South", is totally awesome, easy to read and you can go to www.cryptokeeper.com to find out more if you're interested. This is not a promotion, you know, just sharing info. biggrin.gif
bipto
IMHO, any board who won't let you mention a researcher because they aren't affiliated with the board and because others on the board 'don't like them' isn't worth the bandwidth required to see it. The other stuff you talked about is also OK by me. I mean, what the heck is a forum for!?! Isn't it to share info and discuss differing opinion? How boring and pointless is a forum where only approved topics can be discussed among people who agree with each other and think they're better than everyone else?

As fas as I'm concerned, y'all can talk about any researcher you want (even those blob guys down in Ohio)! You can mention any book you like and you can (obviously!) post messages that are 'personal'. It may not make this a forum that other sites take too seriously, but I think it's the open and friendly conversation that takes place here that makes it unlike most other forums you'll find out there...
Ella
Bipto, the board who didn't want other researchers' names mentioned--it was because they belong to a different organization which apparently "threw out" a couple of members (why, I don't know), who then joined the organization whose board I was at that moment posting on. I was told that the members of the organization whose board I was posting on resent the other organization because they are not allowed to post on THEIR board for taking in these two evicted former members, who are very nice people with a great deal to contribute. If that all sounds convoluted, it's only because it is. I believe anonymity should be the spiritual foundation of all traditions when a group is dedicated to a specific goal, ever reminding us to place principles above personalities and that's why I won't say which ones they are. Both are chock full of fine people who are my friends.

But, WHERE IS BIGFOOT in all this? He could walk up and introduce himself and offer himself for study and they would not even notice him, being too busy bickering and enforcing their arbitrary "rules". But they don't see it that way......they see it, I guess, as "tit for tat". icon_mad.gif laugh.gif

Yes, I also thank the Lord for BFF, Bipto, and I'm super proud to have had a small part in getting it going six months ago! biggrin.gif

Perfect anaology Ella,I look at the other boards from time to time but only once in a great while,(usually never) post anything.very rarely do I even see where they discuss anything BF related.Unless its to slam another researcher or group.Maybe thats why I started and still pretty much only post here.with others who share ideas and theories and possible research methods or articles that may help one of the others more of a musketeer attitude than a lone ranger one(even though even he needed Tonto on occasion) laugh.gif
Ella
Unfortunately, people are human and therefore not perfect. Still, you would think that among intelligent people, which BF researchers and BF enthusiasts usually are, you would think they would put "me" out of the way in order to attain the larger issue. But like I said, if you're not Mother Teresa, you probably have some kind of ego hangup. As for me, all somebody has to say is, "Haven't you put on a little weight?" to send me into orbit--or I used to. Now I just say, "Thank you for sharing that with me." Love, Ella Ellaphant biggrin.gif 8)

That's OK, Ella. You don't have to. Those of us who are also readers and lurkers know already. Plus, it looks like a couple of blabbermouths have already named them above.
Arkansan
Actually Fishy, I didn't name the board Ella is talking about, but I do know who it is. I just named the ones I consider the "touchiest" group, because Bipto asked...LOL

GCBRO is not the board who would not post Chester Moore's book. They did post it, though Ella got a reprimand for mentioning a certain person as Chester's sidekick, I noticed!
I feel I understand the reason it was not posted on the particular board. It could actually come back in the long run to cause problems for Ella on that board. Politics again.
At the same time I agree with Ella that things such as egos and past squabbles and such just slow us down in our goal. That is why I don't and won't belong to a group. If you join a "group" you are expected to show your dedication and support for the entire group as a whole. Then if one person from another group says something about one person in your group, the entire group feels the duty to respond....even when they are wrong.
Nope, groups are not for me...I can't back up someone when they are obviously wrong, even when they are a friend. I can walk away and remain silent or not get involved, but I won't go to battle for them when I know they are wrong. That's just not right.

A lot of us walk on eggshells in this field Ella, but even so...you are bound to jerk a knot in someone's chain eventually.
But those of us who know you Ella, know that you are smarter than you give yourself credit for and would never intentionally offend someone.
We love ya here Ella and post whatever you like, the rest of us sure will.

Hmmm. Reminds me of a song...

When you're a Jet,
You're a Jet all the way
From your first cigarette
To your last dyin' day.

When you're a Jet,
If the spit hits the fan,
You got brothers around,
You're a family man!

You're never alone,
You're never disconnected!
You're home with your own:
When company's expected,
You're well protected!

Then you are set
With a capital J,
Which you'll never forget
Till they cart you away.
When you're a Jet,
You stay a Jet!

So on and so forth... smile.gif

Hey Arky, every board I sent Chester's book post to, posted it. So what board are you talking about? I posted it on GCBRO, MC, Cryptozoology and Friends of Bigfoot, and on BFF too, but not as a separate thread. They all posted it, though one of them asked me not to "promote" anyone's work again as people objected to the work of non-members being "promoted". Chester does not need that kind of help from me--his work sells itself. I was just trying to share with everyone I could what a wondrous book he has written.

As for Bobby Hamilton, he's a precious friend and I love him to pieces. I apologized to him because it cost me nothing and I learned how touchy some people can be about their independent research being recognized. Bobby and Chester have often worked together and Chester gave him credit and thanks in his book. But they are separate entities professionally. Like I said, live and learn.

If you're talking about EB's board, I would never post anything there that I considered important in terms of BF research. I believe poor EB is in error in his insistence that BF is "paranormal", but I agree to disagree with him. I don't think he's an evil person at all....just unenlightened in some ways. I don't know why, but he really likes me and sends me personal E-mails from time to time, being very pleasant and polite. Maybe he's glad to meet someone who is not "out to get him", as he probably believes. I don't know, I have no paranormal, mind-reading talents! laugh.gif

But anyway, Arky, please let me know which board you meant. You can mail me at hotdog@intertex.net if you don't want to post your reply.

"Amok Amok Amok" WHACK laugh.gif .sorry Bipto. The ones that get posted by me on other boards.which alot of times I write ,they no post. Most are innocuous questions about what they have (other than a blurry photo),some are serious but as I expected taken out of context. So feel free to join me and wreak away.Just dont expect to get posted if you question their evidence or theories.

Ok, here I am quoting myself again and putting my foot in my mouth and now I feel the need to correct myself.

Ella informed me that "ALL" the boards she submitted to posted her article. So I stand corrected. I was guilty of assuming! So I was wrong and I stand corrected.
And never did I insinuate the board I was thinking of was a troublemaking board. Far from it. I highly respect the ones I was referring to. I could just understand their point if in fact what I assumed was accurate. But it wasn't so I will bow out and shut up now!

Thanks Ella for straightening me out! LOL

It was 'way far down on the page by the time the issue came up here. And I did get a letter from the headman, for whom I have great respect, asking me not to post such a thing again, that he saw nothing wrong with it, but people complained. It was probably some of the ones who got evicted from "you-know-where". What a bunch of foolishness. Case closed. laugh.gif
