Anyone have a list of credible organizations/labs that will do free hair analysis? Preferably in the SF Bay Area?

By 'analysis' do you mean to see if the hair is from a known or unknown animal?

Yes. exactly. And maybe even better, the characteristics of which animal or animals it most resembles.

Someone at JREF offered free DNA tests.

Let me see if I can track it down, because I don't remember his screenname.

Try googleing "Forensic Laboratories" , A list of labs should come up that are near you..Find one that is privately owned and reputable. Local Law enforcement probably outsources work to the good ones.

I'm still in touch with him occasionally, testing has not been a fast process. Sanguine is the username.

These guys are not free, and you'd have to mail in your sample, but they have reasonable prices and seem very credible.
