I just purchased a Coaxsher RCP-1 Pro radio chest harness so I can more easily carry my GPS, radio and SPOT. I've used radio chest harnesses in search and rescue (SAR) but was not familiar with the RCP-1 harness by Coaxsher. I purchased it based on a discussion with the company, which is located in Washington state. I specifically was looking for a harness that held the items I wanted easy access to, but also wanted to be able to conceal a firearm (in SAR we are allowed to carry but only concealed, if we have a concealed carry permit). After discussing the harness with a representative at Coaxsher, who has a full-size semi-auto pistol I was assured my 1911 .45 would fit in the main zippered compartment.

I've had a chance to get everything in the harness I wanted, GPS, radio, SPOT, and a handgun or binoculars in the main compartment. I haven't used it in the field yet but the harness is very well constructed and provides very good support even with all of my stuff in it. The main compartment will also hold my topo maps which is great. The straps also do not get in the way of backpack straps, so you can keep easily accessible stuff in the harness while backpacking (i.e., topo maps, pen/pencil, etc.).

If you are interested in carrying these types of items, I feel this radio harness is likely to provide what you need. It seems to do exactly what I need it to do and I'm happy with the purchase.

Here is their website, the RCP-1 Pro specifically : http://www.coaxsher.com/radio_chest_harness_rcp_1_pro.html

Nice piece of gear.
Let us know how it performs after a few hours tromping around...

I've used a smaller Coaxsher radio harness on SAR missions in the past and it's exactly as advertised. I got this larger one due to my personal/special "needs". I'll definitely try to post again when I've gotten a few miles of use out of it.

This is a great piece of kit...thanks for posting this. My dog and I have just completed our first level of K9SAR certification and I can see this working very well for that. Next week we start training on night searching for the next 3 months and this harness will be just the ticket, gerry

I just wanted to report back on how the pack has been working. I've been using the pack when hunting. As you can see from my first photo, I include a SPOT, GPS and FRS radio. I also carry binoculars in the main portion of the pack.

The pack works very well while having to carry a backpack, a rifle or game bag. The straps don't get in the way when carrying other things over the shoulders. Also, it makes it very easy to access the radio/GPS. Another nice thing is it never got caught up on the brush while I was going through some of the thicker stuff.

A pro and con to the harness is it's small size. It is not big enough to carry a water bladder, it's hardly large enough for a pair binoculars and some small papers; however, I purchased it to carry more essential items where they would be more readily accessible. I didn't know it would fit my binoculars when I bought it (I bought it with the idea I could carry a full frame semi-auto 1911, which it does), but it is large enough for that. So, it may seem like a con to some that it is small, but to me it's a pro because I carry my larger things in a backpack. It's compact, out of the way, and again, keeps the essentials close.

Anyway, said I'd report back after some time in the field, so there you have it.

Ace, can you post a pic of you wearing, so we can get an idea of size and where it sits on you?

It looks adjustable. I would wear it so that it fits directly on the center of my chest and upper stomach.

I bought one of these harnesses based on Ace's recommendation and love it. I like that it is light and keeps the key essential stuff at your finger tips. In terms of fit it is good over a jacket but I am going to lengthen the straps so it will fit over a parka. I intend to also carry a back pack so it just needs to hold the essentials and a few psk back up items.

One reason I got it was the clip on the shoulder for a flashlight. As a card carrying flashaholic I liked the idea of clipping my red A2 on it for night time K9 SAR. As it turns out the clip is sized for a maglight and none of my tactical lights will fit. Still I plan on keeping my eyes peeled for another clip and in the meanwhile I like everything else about this harness. Thanks Ace for pointing this out to us. gerry

... but there are more shots of it on people at the Coaxsher site, and "action shots". If those shots don't show you what you want, or if you need a more specific shot of something let me know.

There is more than one harness, but they all ride in the same place. On Coaxsher's main page there will be a flash of images at the top and you'll see wildland fire and SAR guys wearing their packs and radio harnesses.

Check them out here: Coaxsher Gear - Harnesses and Packs

Edited to add, it rides right on the chest. I looks sort of high in some of the photos, but it isn't, at least not on me.

This is with my down parka on. It fits fine, but the straps don't have a lot of adjustment left. It looks higher than it feels due to the parka.
