Hello All,

First things first; I don't know if I'm posting this in the correct section, so moderators, feel free to move it if need be.

Now, I need some help and/or suggestion from the fine people here at The Bigfoot Forums. I'm about to start a new fictional novel dealing with everyone's favorite elusive, hair covered biped. I don't want to divulge too much of the story, but lets just say it involves a Bigfoot researcher finally finding certifiable proof of the big guy's existence and his struggle to find acceptance amid a mirade of skepticism.

The trouble I'm having is deciding on a location for the story. At first I was thinking southern Oregon. Then I thought perhaps a Canadian locale would work better.

So, does anyone have an opinion as to where might be a good setting for said novel?

How about Vancouver Island, British Columbia or Alberta in Canada. How about near an Indian Reservation, First Nation preserve or near a military base also? West Virginia might be pretty ripe for action in the East, maybe somewhere near the underground White House in the Alleghenies. biggrin.gif

BC area of canada is probably a decent setting. Beautiful country too.

Without knowing your characters or story setting, it's kinda hard to suggest the best local but I like the Oregon idea. Any where in the PNW, Canada included would of course make a great spot for said researcher to find his white whale.

Be different, set it in Florida, Louisiana, Maine, or the desert SW... thumbup.gif

Like someone else posted, it will partialy be dictated by the type of characters that you use. The pacific northwest near the Canadian border would be a great area to set it because of the terrian.

Do you want to go with an area rich in sightings or a an area that has relatively few documented encounters?

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

To answer your question, I'm looking for a good balance between a high number of sightings and low number of year-round residents. I don't want to give too much away about the characters, but I can say that the main character is best described as an eccentric guy who's chosen to part from modern society by moving into the woods, dedicating his life to finding and studying bigfoot. He's kind of a mixture of Captain Ahab and Jane Goodall.

Canada sounds like it would fit all that nicely.

How about here in Ontario..we've had lots of sightings of the sass..how about the story be at a campground or trailer park, or near one?

Set it in Georgia, just to boost that scepticism factor...

LOL... Nah, I don't think he'll be dragging a big ole freezer with him into the woods.

I've decided on someplace in Canada... Possibly around the Tahsish-Kwois Provincial Park in Northern Vancouver Island, but looking into places in Ontario too...

Could i just throw in a place that, if this Animal exists ( & i'm pretty sure it does ) then it 100% livese here, the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State..

Quite possibly THE most beautoful place in the World & prime Sasquatch territory.. thumbup.gif

Vancouver Island sounds like a good call and it's some beautiful country. Best of luck with your book.

this might help ya out a little

The hills in the Temagami area are remnants of the oldest mountain ranges in North America,

Algonquin Provincial Park is a good one in Ontario, and with a history of sightings too, but not while I was there going lake to lake.

I was going to say So. Oregon, because I like it here, but it's probably not off the beaten path enough considering your character. There are some major highways through So. Oregon; although, if you want to get out in the sticks it's not hard. O'Brien/Cave Junction would be ok, but they are still close to highways with significant traffic through there...mostly through there though. Not much to stop for except gas and maybe lunch.

Awesome suggestion my friend... While I have settled on Northern Vancouver Island for this book, I like what I've seen in researching the Olympic Peninsula so much that I think I might just write me a sequel (or quasi-sequel) set there.

And a big THANK YOU thumbup.gif to all who gave their own suggestions.
