This one seems like the real deal. Who had the thread about the paucity of sightings in WV? Better reconsider, Seneca Rocks area is a hotspot too.

My question is how/why did it let a couple of noisy ATVs get to within 30-50 yards? Interesting report though. Should be able to find it pretty easy on GoogleEarth and visit the location.

It fits into alot of other roadside situations, where the BF just shows no fear of what's coming toward it. It knows what's going on, and just doesn't care. How's that for a pinnacle preditor outlook on life, hehe.

" Yeah, I'm standing here and you see me. Whatcha gonna do about it "

Great report!

.I have totally lost interest in outdoor activities that I once loved due to this experience.
reminded me of another BRFO report ( one of the more believable ones IMO), I think it was in Louisiana, I remember it was a southern state.
Anyway the guy was a more-than-avid trainer of hunting dogs and he encounters one in a swamp that approaches him and his two dogs on leashes( terrified at first and then they freak on it). The BF reaches down from a close range and splashes water at him pretty much ignoring the dogs chomping at the bit to get at him, kind of a "beat it punk' gesture and well, he beats it. That guy does not come right out and say it, but he mentions that he doesn't train dogs anymore and you really get the feel that he's terrified to go out in the woods, the experience pretty much completely ruined a major part of his life and livelyhood. Can't say I'd blame him being approached the way he was, don't think I'd ever feel that comfortable "out there" after something like that.

ps) anyone know what report that is? I'd love to read it again.

Yeah, that happen to me and I would feel the same...

Raleigh County, WV. Plenty of habitat, not a lot of population living around there and a few other sightings according to the BFRO database.

My beef is with the conclusion that it was a BF.

"The body was much wider across the shoulders than the waist. The creature had very shiny black hair that appeared to be groomed. There was sparse hair on the creature's face. Its forehead sloped back from its very dark eyes. The skin on its face was dark."

I'm thinking bear at this point.

"At about 30 yards, he realized that he was looking at a huge creature, and he saw it turn its head toward him. The husband was utterly terrified and shocked at the sheer size of the creature. When describing the creature physically, the husband described the head shape as being similar to that of the 1967 Patterson-Gimlin film subject... He described it as "sinister and scary looking". He did not notice any associated odor. "

I'm thinking a couple of city slickers who watch too much TV got overly excited and spooked by a bear. He was too busy trying to get out of dodge while his wife screamed that I wouldn't put much weight to any descriptions of the animal. Note he claims it was 8 or 9ft tall. That's almost outside the bell curve of most BF sightings... not impossible, but more likely just excitement.

Found it, I guess it wasn't a BFRO report rather a TBRC:
