I just found out about this (and none of my searches here turned up anything) and I'm half laughing and half-desperate to see what the hell this was about. It's one story in the Star Wars Tales Issue 19 (Darkhorse Comics 2003) or it can be found in the Star Wars Fan Club Special 2008 (Darkhorse Comics) special issue.
Into The Great Unknown - Han Solo and Chewbacca are aboard the Millennium Falcon when they are attacked by Imperials. They are forced to leap to hyperspace blind and end up in our solar system, where they crash on Earth's Pacific Northwest. Believing they are on Endor due to the large trees, they venture out to investigate, when Han is killed by Native Americans. The mourning Chewbacca leaves the Falcon to live in the trees, where the natives name him "Sasquatch".

126 years later, the wreckage of the Falcon and Han’s remains are found by the intrepid American archaeologist Indiana Jones and his sidekick, Short Round. Indy, spooked by how 'eerily familiar' the remains are, decides to leave them in peace.

There's probably not much in this specific story on Chewbacca as Bigfoot... It's non-canon for both Star Wars and Indiana Jones... so there's not much information out on the web to be had. I was just wondering if anyone here had seen this or had more info on this tale...

jacksquatch - that is pretty damn cool. Thanks for the info. And thanks for visiting back and posting #12 since 2004!

The PNW is pretty much known for its "sasquatch/bigfoot" according to the recent trip I took through there. BF crap (things to buy) everywhere! (I did not see any BF scat, but did see fresh Bear scat at Lake Tahoe and actually chased after a bear at night with a spotlight after finding fresh scat and a daybed right next to it)

The story, "Into the Great Unknown" was written by Haden Blackman and does appear in the "Star Wars Tales" issue #19. HIS WEBSITE

In 2008, Frank DiGiacomo did an article for "Vanity Fair" about the above story and interviewed Haden Blackman. Here is an excerpt from that article.

QUOTE
When I called Blackman about "Into The Great Unknown", he told me that it was one of the most fun Star Wars tales he's attempted, and that the idea had actually been kicking around for a while at Dark Horse Comics, the publisher of Star Wars Tales, when he was asked to take a crack at it.

"This might be an apocryphal story", Blackman explained, but during the production of Return of the Jedi, a number of the sequences that took place on forest-covered planet of Endor (home of the Ewoks) were filmed in the Pacific Northwest. "And the story goes that Peter Mayhew, the guy who played Chewbacca, always had to be accompanied by a couple guys in brightly colored vests so that he wouldn't accidentally get shot by somebody mistaking him for Bigfoot", Blackman said. "So, I took that story and kind of just ran with that idea." He adds that, according to received Star Wars wisdom, Wookies can live hundreds of years, which makes it possible for Chewbacca to be alive when Indy happens upon the wreckage.

....I hope that answers your question.

Thanks. The interview with the writer is pretty cool... but it's not so much the Star Wars or Indiana Jones angle that interests me... more the Native Americans vs Chewbacca angle and how it was presented. I did find that cover and a 2nd alternate cover...

I'm going to keep hunting around to see if I can find some of the pages on this story. Someone, somewhere, must have found this intriguing enough to comment on and posted some images. I'm sure in the end, I'll have to buy the comic to satisfy my curiosity.

FYI - finally found what I was looking for... and after re-reading earlier the excellent article found and posted by moregon up above, I wasn't expecting much... and there wasn't.

"Let's leave him as part of the great unknown" - Indiana Jones

the above is a combo of two frames from the comic... and this whole hunt was started when I heard a reference to "short round" (Indy's sidekick of a kid) and forgetting what that reference was and the online search led to this comic trying to cross-over and tie-in 3 or 4 different storylines. Best part of all this, I now understand where all these stories of Sasquatch with glowing blue bandoleers have been coming from... kidding kidding... woot.gif
