Go figure. I go on a trip to Cali and Oregon and the Vail Daily does a report on Bigfoot. I am in Monterey Bay Cali and have very limited WiFi access. Someone want to Google Vail Daily.com and find the link to the article? Here is the photo. The New America school is headed up by an old boss of mine, so I'll have to contact him when I return.
Edited to add - This is the same area as another sighting of one back in December 2008. The "report" is not anywhere on the BFRO or on the net anywhere. It was from a young woman I met and she saw one there. Story is somewhere on here.

More like: Certainly . The legs are lighter than the torso, and the coat hangs down past where the legs meet the butt. Or it sure looks that way to me.

I am guessing guy in a coat and jeans. Also if the photographer really thought it was a Sas wouldn't he/she snapped a couple more pics? It's far enough away that there shouldn't be any reason for alarm and cameras these days don't have a hard time taking multiple pics in a short amoutn of time.

Well, whatever or whoever it is looks to be behind a boulder or stump or possibly sitting on it. The 'leg' looks awfully thin compared to the torso.
Would be nice to know the story on this.

I concur! I also think that Noni is correct, it looks to me that it is either standing behind a rock or is sitting on one. Now waiting for the board to offer enhanced imagery of this one. As Dmor pointed out, this was a perfect situation for multiple photos, are there more that have not been released yet???

Still in Monterey Bay. Heading up the coast of California tomorrow. Hope to be around Jedediah SP in 2 days.

IS IT BIGFOOT?
The New America School was out hiking near Sylvan Lake this spring when they caught sight of this animal up on the hillside. ... They also saw some big footprints around the area, yet he only showed himself this one time. If anyone knows anything else about this strange creature, please contact NAS. We are located in Gypsum, right upstairs from Sasquatch restaurant.
There was no "article", just this (above). Pic was from this past spring. Hmmmm.

Click to view attachment There are no other rocks with similar coloration in the photo. It would have to be something unique. COuld be a burnt stump... rather large tree stump, if it was compared with the surrounding trees.
Would like to see additional photo's of the same area to determine if it is permanent or not.

Could be a dead bush or anything dark hiding behind that bush. It looks like the bush is closer to the camera and it's outline making whatever is there appear to have a different shape than what it really has.
Did a search at Vail Daily as well, only thing I turned up was in regards to a film crew in Eagle County last fall filming a documentary about Bigfoot, then a story about it airing March of this year. Nothing else that I'm seeing.
I agree, the best thing would be if someone could go back to that area and see if it's still there in the same position.

That coincides with the airing of that documentary, on March 11 of this year.

EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado The Eagle County Historical Society and its president, Eagle resident Kathy Heicher, will be featured tonight on a showed called 'Snowbeast Slaughter' on the History Channel.
The History Channel's "hipe" for the show, airing at 7 p.m., says: "High in the rugged wilderness of Colorado's Rocky Mountains a large hairy creature is said to be preying on the elk and frightening residents. The stories date back centuries with the earliest settlers describing terrifying encounters with a large beast whose scream bellows across the hills. Even today ranchers and hikers report a monster they can't explain that may be attacking their horses. Monster Quest will sift through the evidence and determine what may be killing the elk. The aerial search ascends to 10,000 ft. in search of fresh evidence that could lead to the creature; as the ground team scales the side of Pikes Peak to hunt for the legendary Snowbeast."
The progam will also feature the historical society's Avon Store.
http://www.vaildaily.com/article/20090311/...tprofile=searchSo could be somone dressed up out there fooling around after seeing the show.
Will see if I can find out more about that show.
It was an Episode of Monster Quest and it looks like you can buy it from iTunes for a small price. Will have to check it out later.
Edited to add...
Sylvan Lake, the lake mentioned in the Title of this thread, the alleged location of the sighting, is in the same County (Eagle County CO) where the Monster Quest Episode was filmed.

It is located in the E-edition, page B14. Says the photo was taken several months ago. It could be anything. Someone should run down the source and learn the details, examine the camera, copy the memory, interview the many witnesses. Prints should have been documented. Without these things we are left to speculate to no end. HMB

HOLDMYBEER - Thanks, yes it is found there. It is just a picture with the caption I pasted and copied in post #18.
I don't think the MQ filming in Eagle County at Halloween last year has anything to do with the photo whatsoever.
The New America School is a newer "charter" style school for the dropouts of the dropout school, Red Canyon. I know a few people who teach there and will call them when I return.
This area has had a ton of sightings...none of which are on any kind of database.

G.c - Let me first say that I just posted the info...I dont think its a sasquatch, rather some common trickery that photography plays once in awhile. Burnt wood? Sure. Backpacker? Probably. Jacobs creature? Why not.
But I will say this, the area is plenty wet. I know the area very well and not even a half mile away is some very very thick forests that extend for many miles. Plenty of place to hide. And, plenty of moisture. Looks can indeed be deceiving. And a very big history of sightings within this area dating back to the 1870's. Lake Creek Monster. Fulford. Etc.
Hard to tell over the ole Net, but I am assuming you are joking about the "we learned on a recent episode of MQ that BG habitat had high rainfall" comment, correct?

I would guess a bear traveling up hill and passing behind some brush or a rock as the photograph was made. I think only the forelimb head and back are actually visible and part of the unknown subject and the dark area below another object unrelated (such as a shadow).

Ok! Now I am convinced that it is a mountain biker. After some enhancement of the picture as a whole (hue/saturation) and the area directly below the dark figure (brightness/contrast, sharpen filter); I believe that I can see the front tire (barely) and I also believe that the rear tire is concealed behind some brush.

I have yet to speak with the Principal of the New America school, whom I know.
What I have heard is that the school is located above the "Sasquatch restuarant". And, the former owner of the restaurant had a sighting, thus the name. I called, different owner now, both Spanish...and some language barriers there when we spoke. The current owner did not know dittle, but it still has the same name.
I think it's a deal to get more coverage locally for the school, but I'd like to speak with mrs. Brenza first.

Ok..... Does anyone else agree that it is a mountain biker? If you zoom in on the photo in my previous post, you can see tha front and rear tires and even the frame of the bike. Obviously a blurry, distorted image of a mountain biker attempting to negotiate rough terrain. It would seem that the photo was taken from a great distance and the subject just looked like a strange dark blob on a distant hillside. Anyone disagree?

I see what you're sayin' Grape - definite cycling posture to the subject. But the blobby aspect to the figure doesn't look right in the context of the tree stems in the foreground. For one thing, the figure looks really big relative to those trees. I think it's a bigfoot on one of those tiny circus bicycles.

BINGO! After responding to GrapeApe, I took a closer look at the original and I think it's a black bear. It's either facing toward or away from the camera, so a long-ish muzzle isn't apparent.
