I'm curious about what programs people use for their game cam pics that are taken at night to bring out any detail of anything that may have triggered the cam. I have only used Fine Pix Viewer and the only thing I can basically do is invert the pics, nothing more. I would appreciate any advice on free software.

You get what you pay for.

And you get what you don't pay for, it just depends on how tenacious one is.

Never the less, he wants free and there is open source and limited functionality stuff out there for free.

OP, what OS are you using? Windows?

You might try this, I just took a peek. Try the auto levels and learn the KB commands.

Ctrl Z works if you make a change you don't like.

PhotoFiltre
photo editing and effects
Our Rating: (Excellent)

PhotoFiltre is a complete image editing and effects package, that will not only amaze you with features but also the fact that it is free (for personal use). It comes with many features that rival some commercial packages, as well as additional add-on that can be downloaded from the web site. PhotoFiltre offers all the standard editing features (selection, clone brush, paint brush etc.) as well as a large selection of image effects, photo masks, image adjustments, thumbnail browser and much more. The program also supports batch processing to apply filters, sizing, adjustments and transformations to a large number of images at once. PhotoFiltre comes with modern, well designed interface and is well suited for everything from simple resizing to advanced photo editing.

you cant beat Photoshop CS2 or 3 and Lightroom, although for panoramic stitching ive found my cannon Zoombrower EX software is pretty good as you dont see the lines.

Thank you Night Stalker, I'll give it a try.

My Fine Pix Viewer software was a download that was included with my FinePix digital camera but is compatible with both my Stealth and Moultrie cams. It's basic use is mainly for cropping and doing simple routine enhancements for pics. Now I am wanting to try different free programs just to get an idea of what type of quality I can get for free, I just may need something to tweak a bit before I do decide I have to pay for better quality adjustments.

And yes I have Windows XP

I use The Gimp for most of my photo editing. It is open source software. I particularly like the dodge burn feature. It has good sharpen and contrast features.

I now use PhotoShop for real photo work but for years or for a quick manip (like most of the stuff I do here- cropping, labeling, brightness/contrast etc.) I still go to ArcSoft PhotoStudio that I got free on a disc with a scanner or printer years ago. There is a newer version, which I found awkward, so I still use the very old 2000 version. I really like it and, as freebie, think it's great for most basic stuff.

If you are looking for some everyday, very user-friendly free photo manipulation software, I suggest Irfanview. Been using it for years, and unless I need to get superdooper fancy, it works fine.

For the superdooper fancy stuff I use The Gimp, which is not as user-friendly (in my experience) although significantly more robust. I hear it's very like PhotoShop, so if you've used Photoshop, The Gimp might be just the ticket.

True, I have the portable version if Irfanview and you can adjust the gamma, saturation, contrast, brightness, color balances, decrease color depth, sharpen, swap colors etc.

You can also easily resize pictures with Irfanview which is a cool characteristic!
