I remember first hearing about this on Coast to Coast but apparently its a ranch located in Utah that has had tons of crazy stuff go on.

Heres a little background information on the ranch

Tom Gorman and his wife, sometimes called Terry and Gwen Sherman, bought the ranch from absent owners in the autumn of 1994, with the intention of raising cattle.[2] After reputedly experiencing what they believed to be paranormal activity, and citing personal stress, the family tried to sell the ranch in 1996. Some regional press outlets picked up news of the alleged phenomena shortly afterward.

The National Institute for Discovery Science (NIDSci), which funds study of the paranormal, purchased the ranch for $200,000.[3] The ranch featured in the media again in 2002 when NIDSci gave Las Vegas Mercury reporter George Knapp access to the ranch. Knapp wrote a two-part article, which was published in the now-defunct alternative newsweekly Las Vegas Mercury in November 2002.[2]

Hunt for the Skinwalker, a detailed book about the ranch and the NIDSci investigation which was co-written by NIDSci researcher Colm Kelleher and Knapp was published in December 2005. The authors insisted that standard scientific protocols were followed in the investigation at the ranch, and that scientists and researchers witnessed bizarre phenomena, but there has been no independent verification of those claims.[1]

A Utah talk radio host, Steven Rinehart, claimed in December 2006 on the air to have visited the ranch.[4] He subsequently posted photographs of the ranch
and directions to it online (and a Google Earth link), along with purportedly unidentified footprints he found in snow near the ranch. According to Rinehart, each print was about 17 inches (0.4 m) long, and appeared to have been made by a large, bipedal creature
.[5]

Activity at Skinwalker Ranch proved sporadic from the late 1990s onwards, with periods of high activity offset by periods of dormancy. Many of the more unusual phenomena were transient, sometimes happening only once, or often reported as just occurring for a couple of weeks and then disappearing forever.
In February 2006 George Knapp from Coast to Coast Am said activity had started up again and that that security measures were being used to guard the premises, and that anyone trespassing would be prosecuted.

Types of Activity

Unidentified vehicles

A refrigerator-shaped object about the size of an RV with a white light at the front and a red light at the back was reported by the Gorman family prior to NIDS' arrival. The vehicle allegedly retreated from Gorman and his nephew as they approached it. It then floated up into the clear sky and flew away. A black triangular object resembling an F-117 Nighthawk stealth fighter was also allegedly witnessed by Mrs. Gorman. The vehicle hovered about twenty feet above her parked car before it vanished. Known by locals as "ghost lights", the Gormans claimed that they could also move towards people as if to play a game of "chicken"

Orbs and floating lights

Glowing orbs of various colors, particularly orange and blue, were allegedly seen on the property. They were described as ranging from basketball- to baseball-sized, and some contained what appeared to be swirling liquid. These objects were allegedly capable of affecting electrical items, particularly lights merely by their presence, and of melting animals, such as dogs.[2] This was possibly due to extreme heat or radiation that might have emanated from the orbs.

Another phenomena observed by the Gormans were large orange circles that floated in the sky and occasionally expelled orbs and unidentified beings. Mr. Gorman claimed blue sky was visible through one such circle he witnessed at night.

Cattle mutilations

The Gormans allegedly witnessed numerous cattle mutilations on the ranch during their stay.[2] Some common traits of these included:

One ear being cut off
Excision of the cattle's genitals
The rectum being 'cored out' of the cattle
Exsanguination, some instances of which took place very quickly (twenty minutes, on one occasion)

Strange Creatures

Numerous encounters with unidentified or strangely behaving creatures allegedly occurred on the ranch. In some tales, the creatures were reminiscent of dogs or hyenas. The first unusual encounter the Gormans had on the ranch involved what appeared to be a very large wolf on one of their first days after moving to the ranch. The animal was not aggressive towards the family, but when it attempted to capture a calf, Mr. Gorman shot at the creature. The shots had no noticeable effect and the creature eventually left the homestead. Gorman later found a hunk of flesh from the animal that smelled of burning sulfur or rotten meat.

Other creatures, including what appeared to be Bigfoot and an unknown, semi-transparent entity, were also said to have been encountered on the property
Exotic, multicolored birds were also reported on the ranch, although such instances could be explained by the wide variety of rare and exotic bird species that are seen in Utah

Poltergeist activity

Trickster or poltergeist-like activity was reported both inside the Gormans' home and on their property. Claims included doors opening and slamming shut, salt and pepper being switched, and objects disappearing and reappearing later in strange places. One story told of four large bulls that had disappeared from a pasture found later in a cramped cattle trailer, seemingly entranced. The Gormans also reported on instances of what sounded like heavy machinery being moved beneath the ranch, and unintelligible voices emanating from the sky

Terrain alterations and unusual landmarks

Other strange phenomena involving dirt, grass, and ice allegedly occurred on the property. These included several hundred pounds of soil being mysteriously removed from the ground, crop circles appearing in long grass on the property and an ice disc found in an irrigation channel

I remember hearing on Coast to Coast about Ufos, a Bigfoot like creature, a camera being torn apart by an unknown entity.

Anyone have any stories/opinions on the Skinwalker Ranch?

Only two (same for the subject of UFOs and bigfoot): Search Button. wink.gif

Someone posted here earlier asking for opinions on the association of bigfoot with ufo sighting. In some places this book suggests there might be some truth to that relationship.

One of the passages told of a bigfoot type creature in the dark disappearing into a lighted door way where no building existed.

cool.gif Yes, 'Darkforest91', this has been mentioned on the Forum before. It's as mysterious today as it was then. Whenever I hear about the BF/UFO association I always think of the Skinwalker Ranch first, it's such a famous story. Some of the claims made are so weird that they are truly hard to believe. Interestingly, the official NIDS website has recently been removed from the Internet, although there are still a number of other unassociated websites which continue to elaborate on the story. The scientific team behind the original investigation had substantial bona fides, including its leader, Robert Bigelow, the first man to put a privately owned satellite into geosynchronous orbit around the Earth. All in all, a real head scratcher. scratchhead.gif

Far as I know, that place fell off the crypto-high strangeness-map after the activity came to a near standstill.

Are things getting lively there again?

This is the most recent thing ive read/heard on it

In February 2006 George Knapp from Coast to Coast Am said activity had started up again and that that security measures were being used to guard the premises, and that anyone trespassing would be prosecuted.

Ill look into it to see if anything has been happening more recently.

Darkforest91,

I used to have the book, but unfortunately I lent it to a friend who lives out of state. Otherwise I would send it to you. . .Although many criticize the book/story, I found it interesting. Yes, there were many things in the book that were hard to digest, but I still enjoyed it. Despite this, it wasn't as if they had a bunch of teenagers there Investigating the ranch. They had N.I.D.S. scientist there to Investigate, whom have to be given some credibility.

I did hear Knapp mention something about it recently but I can't remember what exactly was said. If I remember correctly, he said they were not actively researching the ranch, but Bigelow still owned it. It was definitely a very, very strange place by all accounts.

The book is called: "Hunt for the Skinwalker" (http://www.amazon.com/Hunt-Skinwalker-Science-Confronts-Unexplained/dp/1416505210) Looks like you can get it for around $11 or $12. If I were you, I would probably buy it cause I don't think you'll be disappointed. I woulda been glad to give you my copy, but I have no idea how to get in touch with my friend to get it back. I might have told him he could keep it. Anyways, it's relatively inexpensive.

I saw an interview with Colm Kelleher about the ranch. He said they had documented about 100 different 'events' at the ranch that were 'unexplainable'.

One of the more interesting events he spoke about was one about telephone poles with cameras atop them. In one area of the ranch they had set up telephone poles with cameras on top, with the poles all facing each other. One day they discovered a camera was gone from a pole (it might of been the entire pole missing, but I don't remember). They figured they would now have good evidence of 'something' because it should have been caught on tape from another of the cameras. However, when they looked at the tape(s) there was nothing there, like it had been erased (if I remember correctly).

The only other thing I remember him saying was, they (the scientists) felt like they were definitely dealing with some form of intelligence. Although they had no idea exactly what they were investigating.

Using abebooks.com half.com and addall.com the book can be had for about 10 bucks shipping included.

I thought the book was a good read/better when the NIDS site could be consulted after reading it though. Also put a whole new
spin on visiting the High Uintas looking for Bigfoot shortly after reading it.

I thought the inclusion of UFO's, orbs, poltergeist activity, Bigfoot, other strange creatures and weird atmospheric phenomena all added
to the mystery of the place. But the cattle mutilations, stacking and disappearing creatures were the piece de resistance. The supposed
scientific study of the place added to the allure of the whole package as well. That activity is heating up again makes me a little nervous
and happy to live far away from there.

The creature known as the skinwalker is from Navajo culture. As my family is Navajo, I've heard of many stories and sightings of skinwalkers. The use of the term here and description sounds like someone who has heard the term and a brief description and then used it for their own ends, it does not seem to match the accurate description or behaviour of a skinwalker.
FanofSquatch
Wow this is the first time I have heard of this, but I dont really have an interest in UFO's and paranormal. So is the N.I.D.S. viewed as credible? I still think any private endevour such as that would be viewed with some amount of question but my internet research on Bigelow shows he is not in it for the money. Maybe TAPS should investigate (Just kidding) now I have something new to search and read, cool!
bauctrian
NIDS is unfortunately rather credible. Yes this place exists. Yes I have been there. Yes it's friggin psycho.

Don't go there...only advice I will give.

Yeah that's pretty rough Bauctrian lol.

Like telling me Megan Fox said she really wanted to stop by and see me in a red Ferarri by YOU forgot to give her my address coverlaugh.gif
FanofSquatch
Were you invited or did you sneak in? Do tell, sounds like you may have experienced something while there. How long were you there for? Don't worry I have no plans to go there, I have enough stuff going on in life no need to throw the gateway to hell in the mix.
bauctrian
Lol, I didnt think there was this much interest in "The Ranch"...anymore.
My grandfather grew up a few miles down the road from The Ranch.
My family has a ranch close to fort Duchane.
I've been by the area numerous times.

Should I go into what I have had happen and what I have heard from others...I would be banned from this site in a few hours.

Lets just say if you have a hankering to get possessed or maybe obsessed. Or to be abducted and mind screwed...Then, yes its a good place to go.

Here are the gps coordinates to the location...Well not exact but very close.

40°16'32.75"N
109°53'19.03"W

Just noticed that someone already had this on wiki.

Here is link to a couple folks I have talked to...you can read what happened to them.

If you want to hear anything more from me on this send a PM.
Dantallus
Careful everyone or Bigelow will send his NIDS MIB'S to "Assimilate" us. rolleyes2.gif
FanofSquatch
Imagine that being banned from a bigfoot forum for talking about strange events. I guess "The ranch" has kind of faded away for most people but this is new to me and as corny as it is sometimes the Ghost Hunters show has made me think twice about the paranormal. So having been there on several occasions and having family history in the area without getting yourself in trouble here, what are your thoughts? Gateway to Hell? powerful magnetic zone? Chris Angels birthplace? I have read reports from what seem to be down to earth people who were deeply disturbed by their visit there so I am curious about it.
Dantallus
From what I understand Mr. Bigelow and NIDS have shut the ranch down to a decrease in activity there. NIDS itself is in an in-active mode due to a lack of leads to follow up on.
As for Chris Angel the "Masked Magician" has pretty much exposed the ease at which his tricks can be performed, hopefully that will get these magicians to push the envelope iand come up with new illusions and tricks instead of re-hashing age old tricks for newer audiences. coverlaugh.gif

I would love to hear the stories though : )
FanofSquatch
After reviewing my reference to Chris Angel as an attempt to inject humor into my post I realize now that it was a complete failure. I would love to hear the stories as well, after all they are just stories and are not off topic so please post away.
vilnoori
This is an interesting topic, and I also am new to this and admittedly fascinated. I think its relevant to the discussion because if incidents of bigfoot are associated with a location of other high strangeness, and a location which is under proper scientific investigation and not simply the product of some kind of hype or rumor mill, then it means that we have to maybe rethink the premise of what bigfoot is.

If all these events are occurring in one location like this, with creatures from the past (dino's, bf, thylacines, dire wolves etc.) appearing on occasion it may mean that there are time shifts occurring somehow. Time is not necessarily a constant according to Einstein, so anomalous time phenomena could be occurring somewhere (somewhen?) and we shouldn't be unduly surprised. But probably it is very rare so I think we can operate on a day to day basis as though Newtonian physical laws still operate all the time, everywhere and on most levels. LOL even though that's not actually true.

Is there a spiritual aspect to all this? Well, who knows, and is there any way to verify if it is? I doubt. Perhaps time shifts, possible multiple universes, and such phenomena in the past were interpreted spiritually and still are in most places in the world. Maybe there is a fuzziness in the line of demarcation. These are mysteries. I just like to investigate mysteries and they make me very curious, for one.

Bactrian, please do tell. If not posting publicly here, maybe as Member's Discussion, or in a PM?
FanofSquatch
There are several 10 min videos on YouTube from Knapp and Kelleher being interviewed on Coast to coast, pretty interesting kind of brings you up to speed on the ranch and what happened or is still happening. Just search for Skinwalker Ranch Pt. 1 on YouTube.
FanofSquatch
So I picked up the book today "Hunt for the Skinwalker" Given my immediate interest in the subject I have been unable to put it down. I have passed the ranch parts and have to say that there are few surpises, mostly the same stuff you see on the internet, but some rather shocking stuff you didnt hear about. Not sure what to make of it but worth the read. They do delve into Bigfoot quite a bit and offer a compelling argument for mainstream science to venture further into investigating it. There is mention of the whole BF paranormal UFO connection but they offer it as a suggestion rather than theroy. I sure do hope something new comes out of the ranch as it is, if true, absolutely unreal.
jamin19
I read the book a couple years back and was fascinated with a lot of the accounts. It is very spooky to think that a higher intelligence is behind all that paranormal activity their at the ranch.
I was a little disappointed with the NIDS's conclusions as they really never got any hard evidence to reveal who, what and why those things were happening there.
socaldave
Fascinating stuff! Always have had an interest in the unknown including bigfoot. I've had a few friends with really strange paranormal experiences and after being a skeptic most of my life concerning paranormal activity, I had a strange enough experience that I now listen to others strange experiences with a more open mind these days. cool.gif
FanofSquatch
I now have a more open mind when it comes to anything really rather than just brushing it off I think it pays to try to be open to any possibility. The NIDS left more questions than answers but this book is just one team members account so there is no telling what they may have recorded and kept private. The author mentions several Bigfoot type creatures sighted on the ranch but there are no accounts attatched with them or prints mentioned, they kind of push right to the edge of the Paranormal Bigfoot connection but never quite get there.

If you head south from that spot to the green circular pasture there are some buildings, this is what came up when I searched Sinwalker ranch on Google Earth. It is similliar to some photos I have seen on the web. Infact I am almost positive this is it because I spotted two of the observation towers they built. They are small shed type things with an area of barbed wire fenced off infront of it, this area contained dogs that seemed to have an awareness when paranormal activity was about to happen, so they would have the dogs in the enclosure and observe their behavior.

Heres my 2nd hand might be true story. Went to my wifes 20th high school reunion and ended up talking to another bored could care less husband for most of the night. He is from a town called Roosevelt UT and he said that it is pretty close to the Skinwalker ranch. In 1998 he was passing through the area one evening heading home from work as a drywaller when he crashed into something on the highway, it smashed his truck pretty good but there was nothing there and the damage was sharp like he hit the corner of a building no way it was an animal. He was a bit dazed but there was a fair amount of traffic and he had several people stopped to help within minutes. The guy behind him said there was nothing there that the back of his pickup just jumped up and his truck just stopped no brake lights or skidmarks. The police showed up took a report, he refused medical and the police officer said it may be several hours until the tow arrived so they pushed the truck off to the shoulder and the cop offered a ride into town so his dad could come get him. He loaded his valuables into the police car, got in, buckled up and the cop hit the gas but the car would not move, the nose of the car lowered and the rear tires started to break traction. The cop tried reverse with the same result. Other cars passed by but the cop car would not move like it was being held in place. He said the cop starts freaking out saying stuff like "Don't tell me it's this UFO S#*t again" and "I don't get paid enough to deal with this stuff" So this guy offers to get out and eyeball the underside of the car as the cop tries to drive off to see whats hanging it up, so he gets out and the cop hits the gas and the car takes off and the cop stops the car and yells "hurry the F up lets get the F outta here!!!!" So he runs up hops in and they speed into town. Copdropped him at a restaraunt said good luck man and took off. This guy lives in CA now and still has some family in Roosevelt but has not been there in about eight years. He never saw anything strange or paranormal but heard tons of rumors. He told me the owners real name but I forgot it completely, he said as far as he knows they still live in the area and are involved in the ranch with maintenance and up keep. His truck (1978 Ford) was totalled by the insurance and he took is $1,600 settlement and bought another junker and has no idea what happened to the one in the accident. I am very curious about the ranch as well and am on my 2nd reading of the book so I would love to hear some stories also.
skinwalkerranch
I have alot of experience regarding the ranch and happy to answer any and all questions. I really want to hear more about the members claim of being possessed or ..... OBSESSED... that was an interesting claim that i havent heard yet, but i've seen it now by my own behavior and that of countless other researchers iknow who have seen the ranch. A very odd obsession like a drug takes hold of you and you are drawn back to the ranch regardless of where you are. We even noticed driving down desolate isolated roads seemed to always lead us to the ranch by mere coincidence.... I'd like to hear more about that theory and stories that occured to the author.

also i run http://www.skinwalkerranch.org with forums, photos, and videos for anyone truely curious about the topic. In general the Vernal/Deuschene area has ALOT of bigfoot sightings and something very large is stalking around the ranch.

Now this is what I'm talking about. This is just a veritable potpourri of off the hook kinds of crazy. Skinwalker Ranch appears to be the Wal-Mart for all things paranormal.
Cryptic Animals? Check.
UFO's? Check
Cattle Mutilation? Check.
Dimensional Rifts? Check.
Crop Circles? Check.
Orbs? Check.
Ghosts? Check.

I know I'm missing a few. This is so crazy it just might work.
By virtue of the fact that I cannot fathom anyone would be able to make these claims across such a broad spectrum and expect to be taken seriously, warrants it being taken seriously.

Although, apparently we have our versions of the Skinwalker Ranch in New England. The Hockamock Swamp in MA, and the Benington Triangle in Vermont.
