This is just my yearly reminder to be careful out there, and a reminder that if you do find a tick has attached itself to you, please watch the bite and get medical treatment at the first sign of the red bulls eye spot.

I just want to add to that and say that the red bullseye does not always manifest, so if you start noticing any possible signs of Lyme after being bitten, even if you didn't get the bullseye, get yourself checked ASAP!

I had the bulls eye rash from one, got the antibiotics within a week and I'm fine.

Be careful out there.

My niece just came back from camping after having a tick on her. My brother kept it in a bottle (like they advised) so they can test it. She's been having flu like symptoms so I think they might put her on antibiotics to be safe.

Correct!!

My daughter got it in late spring of last year. She was diagnosed in January of this year. There was no bullseye, rash, or tick for that matter. We only know the approximate time because of the onset of symptoms. Due to the length of time between infection and start of treatment, the antibiotics didn't really help. She is still suffering from the effects of the disease. Tough for anyone, but expecially a 13 year old. She was very energetic and full of life beforehand, now she is tired all the time and doesn't feel well on a daily basis.

If you think you got it, get checked out...ASAP!!

This all sounds kind of horrible.

Maybe something should be said about checking and noticing ticks "before" they bite you. My nephew was in the hospital for 3 days at the age of 7 for a tick bite. Just last year...

I wander in the woods constantly and have been bitten 2 times in 30+ years. There are certain locations in ca that I can reliably pull off 7-10 ticks per 1/4 mile walked.

This is what I did to teach him...
I know it sounds bad but... you can learn what the ticks feel like on your skin. It is a very distinctive feel as they crawl on you. And you can definitely feel them pinch and bite you. Their legs (deer ticks) extend long enough that you can feel them on multiple nerves while they crawl.

Check yourself every 1/4 mile or less. Always check if you are walking along a game trail. Or in high grass. Don't rub against any vegetation! They get ya by hanging off of things, arms outstretched waiting.

Deer ticks vs the smaller ones is an issue but I rarely see the small ones only the larger deer ticks.

Also wear white or another color that highlights critters crawling on you.

learn it...hate it. Dont get bit.
