The original Native American-Taino (Arawak) name of the place was Yukiyu which literally means mountain of the gods and is a place they always steered away from. The Spaniards when they first arrived observed both strange phenomenon and reported creatures sighted in those mountains. From prehistory to the present people have disappeared without a trace there!
