QUOTE(report bulk)
Location: Washington
Unknown location
Nearest city : Tacoma
Nearest Road/hwy : Occurred on hwy 161(known locally as meridian)
Location description: Occurred on hwy 161(known locally as meridian)1/4 mile south of 304 th str. there is a rd. at site now 315th st.the entrance to the dump which was not in existance at the time, just in the permit stages.
Witness activities: Was driving home in truck with family.
Incident description: Had been coming home from a friend of my Dad's house had just turned south onto meridian from 304th,when my Dad said look at that drunk up there. There was a car coming north towards us about 200 yards up the road that nearly ran off the east side of the road. As they got past us (lights still on bright) my dad had slowed down not knowing what to expect from the other car. Then my sister started pointing out the windshield in front of us and yelled "there's someone in the road". Dad hit the breaks again. At this point the "person" was still about 50 ft. in front of us and closing. My dad started to ask "Is that a bear? What the #*#*, do you see that? My God its gotta be a...." Well by this time we were beside it and I mean beside it. Looking out the truck window(full size 79 chevy) its shoulders were taller than the cab. As we slowly passed, Dad was trying to stop, it brushed the mirrors (travel mirrors for towing camp trailer and boat) It was covered in reddish brown hair (not fur it wasn't matted etc..) 2-3 in length a bit longer around the head couldn't see a neck. shoulders were huge, much, much wider than my dads(6ft 220 pnds) It had been in center of lanes when we first saw it and stepped to the shoulder in only one or two steps, traveled along shoulder 5 - 6 steps before we passed it.They are not an animal bear, gorrilla or anything else most people try to catorgise them as, they are a large giant if you wish to say, people just covered in hair. looked right into its eyes, I have never been so terrified in my life. I have never seen so much rage, and hatred in a face ever. It was not afraid of us or the vehicle.
Needless to say we didn't stop due to the fact that my 11 year old sis stood up on the gas pedal. We had to turn off meridian only 1/2 mile from site. Dad nearly missed the road trying to shove my sis off his lap and off the gas. As we turned into the road we met a car coming out. It was my Mom's friend Lorraine; they carpooled to work. She had just dropped my Mom off at the house and was on her way out, as we aproached she rolled her window down, and must have seen how white we were because she did't even ask. She just said "is it still there?" And when my Dad said yes her window went back up and she burned rubber all the way to the highway. When we got to the house 2-3 min. later mom was still arguing with the sherriff that it wasn't someone in a monkey suit. She and Lorraine had passed it about 3-5 min. before us and 1/4 mile farther south (It was traveling north). Can't describe much more about it. I was looking directly into its face didn't think of or have the time to study it. The sherriff did say that we were about the 8-9th call that night that they had recieved at the time. Also listening on the scanner my mother heard 2 more calls about sightings at Ski Park Rd. that night, about 5 mile farther south. In the morning we went back to the area and followed prints going on and off the shoulder for over a mile. Its stride from toe to heal was 5 1/2 ft, including where we passed it and it was walking casually. The prints themselves were 15 1/4 in. long 6 1/2 in at the toe and 4 in. at the heal. My uncle Butch (6'4" 300 pounds) jumping down from the cab of a double axle dump truck could't leave an impression in the gravel shoulder. These tracks were nearly an inch deep. The tracks traveled north to the edge of a field where they entered the woods. My Dad would not go follow them any further and he has hunted, and hiked his entire life.
Previous incidents: Had found tracks off and on growing up, but never close to home. Always in the mountains and various places. Spirit lake (St. Helens), Bear Lake in British Columbia, near Marion Lake on one of the 3 sisters (I don't remember which Mt. its on) Olympic National Forest. Had times us kids chickened out camping near the house because our 3 german sheps were to chicken to go in the woods with us on those nights. Had seen eyes at the end of our yard, in the brush that just growled when my Dad fired sev. shots from a 357 in the air. One of our dogs pissed on himself that night. They wouldn't even walk off the porch with my Dad. When Mom came out and started the car and turned the headlamps in that direction they dissapeared.
Sighting details: Just like a persons, more prominent nose, but not squashed like a gorilla (visited Ivan the Gorilla at B&I shopping center in Tacoma regularly loved it when he would hit the glass to see people spill their drinks or ice cream,he loved to make people jump) Had facial hair like a persons but only 3-4 inches long. remember the beard being longer than the body hair.
