Looking forward to seeing everybody next week! My travel plans have changed (I hate flying and am going to use that ticket for Vegas with Kim later in the year) as I'm now driving up from Monterey Wednesday with my mother-in-law, picking up Ranger Leiterman in Fortuna and then dropping mom off in Rogue River on the way up. Should be a nice 17 hour drive up and should be there mid-day Thursday.

Since I am not attending, could someone who is please ask the following questions on my behalf when they meet Bob Gimlin:
In relation to the accusation by Greg Long that he was arrested over a theft, please ask him the following, since I think it is about time we put this matter to rest:
1) Was a warrant issued for your arrest?
2) Were you arrested?
3) Were you charged with a criminal offence?
4) Did you enter a guilty plea at any stage, even if it was later withdrawn?
These are specific questions, since there was an implication by Greg Long that because an arrest warrant was issued, that Gimlin had been arrested, and that isn't necessarily the case. This is Long's fault for not understanding the question, but these are four simple questions that need to be answered to sort out any ambiguity over Gimlin's involvement in the crime.
Hey, while you are in Yakima, why not pop along to the courthouse and see what records they have?

I don't see why, there are 250 people attending this event, surely one of them will be a researcher who thinks that they are questions Bob Gimlin should be asked, and if he has nothing to hide, he will answer them.
I like Bob Gimlin, I really do, I think he is a very nice man, heck, we've exchanged Christmas cards for as long as I can remember, but, first and foremost, I am an investigator, it is not my job to 'protect' Gimlin from answering difficult questions - clearly some people think it is their job.
What harm would these questions do? Greg Long asked the wrong questions of Gimlin because Long is an idiot and couldn't research his way out of a paper bag - his mishandling of the question has opened the possibility that Gimlin has something to hide - either he does or he doesn't. If he doesn't, then these questions won't be a problem for him. If he does, then these questions still won't be a problem for Gimlin, but they will be a problem for the people who seek to protect him and keep insisting that he is a man of unimpeachable character - the sort of people who attack others for merely suggesting that Gimlin might not be a cleancut as they want him to be.

While we're asking questions, my God-Daughter, who is Apache and her father is a respected Apache elder, would like to know why Mr. Gimlin wore a wig along with his traditional apache clothes at the promotional event for the film in New York?
We understand if he was portraying a fictional character for the fictional movie Patterson was making before he filmed "Patty", but after the alleged authentic real filming of a sasquatch, which the promotional event was for, was Mr. Gimlin reprising that same fictional role? Is this why there was someone impersonating Mr. Gimlin after he left the tour?
We are in agreement that it is very unusual, if not unheard of, for a person who is Apache to wear a wig unless acting out a fictional role in a movie.

Wouldn't it seem more appropriate to write him a letter asking these questions?
These questions can be asked anytime, anywhere. Is it important that they be asked at the event?
I think it would be somewhat discourteous to bring this up at the actual event instead of simply asking these questions in a different format/location/timeframe. Can't we just let the man have his day?

Actually with allegations of criminality or arrest in the interest of the greater PGF mystery, the uestions are applicable, THERE or anywhere else, imho

Yes, the questions are certainly valid, but can't Mr. Gimlin be allowed to have a celebration free of this issue?
The reason I say this is because these questions can be asked anytime, anywhere. If someone insists on asking them at this gathering, then I have to assume the motivation is to be disruptive.

Gees, with friends like this who needs enemies?
I think this is a very tactless spectacle. If not in bad taste it borders on hostile, leave the guy alone already. People are entitled to their own personal business. But just to play devils advocate, so what if he was arrested? Big whoopin do. If someone issues a warrant in 1967 because a guy didn't get a rented camera back on time, who cares! No one goes to the courthouse and digs through your garbage when you don't return a carpet cleaner on time in this day and age. Blockbuster doesn't hound you for not returning a movie. It's a wonder this man isn't a recluse.
Paul1968UK
May 11 2009, 01:20 PM
It doesn't matter to me whether he was arrested or not, or whether he was charged or not, but it matters a great deal to the Gimlin fanboys who hold him up as a shining example of a "good Christian man" (not my words). They are excluding people from a conference promoted on this forum because a person has cast doubt on Gimlin's version of events (despite there being a record of an arrest warrant in existence), and yet are too scared to actually ask him the truth?
If they hold him up as a shining example, and tarnish the name of a good researcher in the process, then yes, Gimlin does need to be asked. His 'friends' have made this a big deal, not me, which i swhy up until now, I have never felt the need to ask him.
And no, I don't think asking that in a Christmas card is appropriate - I was waiting until I meet Bob again in person, but frankly I doubt that will happen the way he is protected from people who might ask difficult questions, so if no-one else has the balls to ask him, I will gladly write to him and ask.
Night Stalker, do your homework before you criticise me, this has nothign to do with the camera, it is to do with the theft of property. a theft for which an arrest warrant was issued for a Robert E Gimlin, and property that was found in Bob Gimlin's yard.

The issue about the question should be more concerning the answer given. Does he answer it honestly? If not then that could speak about someones intent, or tendencies. Whether he has been arrested or not isn't so much an issue in my mind, but rather would he be honest about it or lie. What better time or place to discuss such a question, he could "clear the air" this way if there is nothing to hide. (in front of all of his fans/skeptics) People generally avoid things/issues when they dont want to face it or have something to hide. Sure it may not be a popular topic... but at the end of the day what does BG have to lose from answering the question honestly?
Not a thing.
But to lie about it may present a bigger question of character. (IMHO)

Gimlin has absolutely nothing to lose by answering the questions - absolutely nothing, but the Gimlin fanboys do have a lot to lose depending on how he answers, and that scares the hell out of them.

"Sure it may not be a popular topic... but at the end of the day what does BG have to lose from answering the question honestly?"
He loses his privacy. It is the classical delimma of a person perceived as a "public figure" and Bob likely would be so considered.
A person raises a question about the public figure, and people gossip about the person and the question. If the person answers with proof, said person must open up a part of their life to further public gossip. Which the people gossiping may want to question further, and so to answer the questions, the person must open up more of his life. It can become an inquisition where a person's life is laid bare and the simple and fundamental right to some privacy is lost.
Until you have been on the receiving end of intense gossip, by people around you and total strangers alike, you may not appreciate how or why many people choose to just ignore the question and try to preserve some semblence of their privacy.
Walk a mile in his shoes, and then judge Bob.

Maybe its a matter of stickling here but the tone of the email shared was not an accusation that Scott was going to disrupt the conference, he wasn't being allowed in because of an opinion he stated in the past. It just looks very arbitrary

I can see your point, but if this is a public event, and it centers around him, how then is he not in that context a public figure? It's splitting hairs, but..
