http://www.aux.umass.edu/peter/apache/Here is one is great condition. Shows what they are like inside and out.
I like em. Especially for the price. Going to use it for weeklong (or more) trips this summer "camping". And by camping I mean looking for the bigguy with camera and .40 in hand. Also gonna use it for dirt biking/quad trips.
Here is the one locally. $600 (hopefully uploaded the right one)

For 6 bills, IMO, if its water tight and towable, I'd say it's a deal. I've never had experience with them, so I can't say how realiable they are. I built my own camper instead of buying.

One of my friends had bought a hard side pop up camper, and let me just tell you this... the rest of us were bustin' a gut watching her and 4 friends "set it up". They'd get one hard side up... then two... then, aw, dang, back to the first one.
And by the looks of it, I think at least one side has a serious leak, which probably means a mold problem.
If I were you, I'd look for a fabric tent trailer. The older ones are pretty dang cheap too.

They are pretty darn heavy too.
A late 70's Jayco or Starcraft soft side appear to be almost half the weight. And I know you can flip the axles for higher clearance.
I'll keep looking. I have not ruled out this one though either. That tarp could be there for other reasons other than a leak. Never know.

Might be worth checkin' out. One "whiff" inside should tell you if it leaks

Sure! Puts you right up at "grab" level while sleeping.

The tarp looks like it is being used as a sun shade.

Never camped in a hard sided one but we have a soft sided one when I was young. I class the soft sided ones right along with tents as it is not that much different. Sure you might have a small stove and a port a potty in it hell ours even had a built in AC ( could run all day full blast here in FL and maybe cool it off a few degrees) , But trust me it is not much better then a tent.

I've always called the pop-up campers "Bear Buffets", for obvious reasons.

My thinking was that it was fine and dandy until that big, hairy arm came through the side right next to your head...

Wow, I hadn't thought of that since I was a kid! That's why I hated the tent-trailer so much, especially after seeing "Grizzly" in the theater a week beforehand.
I was actually relieved when we started camping in a big tent where I could sleep on the ground...

I would pass on that camper. For the money you could do better.

We bought a Coleman Nevada about ten years ago. We tended to take it out for extended hunting trips mostly. We haven't taken it out in awhile because we need to get it licensed and I was told that we would have to pay the license fees between 2002 and now, when we did take it out. It now serves as a summer playhouse for the kids and a place to sleep when the house is too hot.
Tent camping is far less of a hassle IMO. I can toss everything in the car or on the rack and go. We can get into places the tent trailer didn't like to go because of road conditions.
As someone who owns one, I say save your money.

Hey Red, if you're talking about registration fees, that only applies if it has been less than two years expired.
I found this out because we were going on a trip and I kept putting off going to the DMV, expecting to have to "catch up" for the years we didn't use our trailer. Imagine my surprise when I went in 2 years + 1 day after the expiration and only had to pay for the current two years. He said if I'd come in the day before, it would have been double the price. Boy did I feel like I won the lottery that day!

Yeah, soft sides are like a Saturday trip to "Gymboree" to a bear

I ended purchasing a larger tent I can stand up in...for the same reason you stated.
