I just got off the phone with the helicopter pilot from the little known MMF research and he said that weather permitting, he will be shuttling researchers (including the MD and MMF researchers) from Crescent City, CA to Bluff Creek on Valentines Day to do new research on the PGF. According to him there have been some new developments regarding this most famous of films that warrent on site research.
Anybody know more about this?

Perhaps he's referring to MK Davis's latest Bizarro World ideas regarding anything and everything having to do with the PGF.

I'll bet Bill Munns knows something about this.
A new MQ episode in the works?

What is Bluff Creek like in the middle of winter? Is the water low or high? I'm guessing it is related to mountain snow melt. Does it get San-Fran type temperatures? Is there snow on the ground there?

Can MK even afford a helicopter ride?
Maybe the DVD toilet paper business is better than I imagined...
Nope... can't be...
But one thing always holds true... "follow the money"...
All I'm saying is it would be nice for a change to see someone give Bob Gimlin the props he deserves...
Let's just watch and see how much of the money made from exploitation of the film trickles back to the only surviving person responsible for it...

Definitely that. He said they'd be using the same equipment that was used on the MDF and MMF research. Same researcher too. He also said that there was going to be other researchers. I got the impression that this was going to be quite the pow-wow. I've talked to the MDF and MMF researcher in the past. I don't understand the technology but I do know that his measuring work is very well respected.
I too wondered about the snow. The Bluff Creek drainage covers a lot of area and a significant range of elevations. I have no idea where in this drainage the PGF was shot but judging from the vegetation in the film it was not in the higher elevation/ deeper snow part. I live closer to the Tahoe area and we have had well below average snowfall this winter but it's not unusual to have well above averages in other parts of the state.
They're flying in because the roads are closed due to some sort of tree disease. I have no clue what that might be.
Also, the pilot didn't know or at least didn't tell me, what "new developments" meant.
We spent most of our time talking about the Marble Mountain Footage, my relatives and just getting acquainted. This is the first time we've ever talked.
Right now the weather forecast for next weekend looks bad but we all know that can change quickly.
Have fun, Norcal

Probably none, Since he signed the rights to it away.
You sound like he is deserving of something, does he still claim rights to some part of the PGF?

The tree disease might be port orford cedar root, but I'm not sure. I'm in southern Oregon and we've got below snow fall too, and I'd expect the area in N. California to be similar. Looks like Bluff Creek is south of Happy Camp; maybe Hwy 96 is closed????

No, he said it was the roads up into Bluff Creek itself. I'll tell ya, being a member of the California Forest Pest Council, I think I'm more curious about this disease than I am about the research.
Well I just looked it up. Thanks, Ace! Bluff Creek road is closed to ALL vehicle traffic and humans are supposed to wash their boots before walking out of areas infected with Port Orford Cedar Root Disease (Phytophthora lateralis). The disease is transported in spore form downhill by water or cross/up slope by human causes. I didn't even know there was any POC on the Six Rivers N.F. The USFS notice said that motorized travel is allowed only during the dry season. Nasty disease too, 100% fatality rate for infected trees with no known treatment. Appears to be non-native to its natural range also. That makes it even worse.
Well... enough obsessing about that and back to obsessing about BF.
Have fun, Norcal
I can’t speak for Mr. Gimlin… only for myself… sarcasms and opinions voiced are my own… please try to keep up…
While he may have signed away rights to the film, I don’t think his soul was part of the deal…
It’s all well and fine to show the film for money, but when wild-assed theories include innuendo just short of slander, I believe it crosses the line.
Mr. Gimlin has in no way deserved all the ill treatment he has received over the years… and still it continues… and it’s wrong…
Valentine's Day huh? Hmmm... did your friend say how much chocolate they were bringing?

It would make more sense to try filming in late October than mid February. I hope the expedition isn't shooting themselves in the foot by going at that time of year.

Sheesh, it took me half of freakin' forever to get anything on this (although I am craving "Dove Chocolate" about now) and I never saw anything saying this was an upcoming episode but yes, I do believe this is why they all are flying in to Bluff Creek. Now, I have an oozing bloody wound on my finger and it's getting all over the keyboard so I'm gonna take a shower, eat some dinner and watch "The Bachelor" with my wife.
Have fun, and thanks for all the info

I don't know how they're going to do it, but the analysis (that they are attempting to do) is supposed to be really specific/detailed and make some very reputable conclusions. It's all still early, but it'll be interesting if/when they are able to do it.

According to the advertisement on the Monster Quest they put the original footage under the microscope. I was thinking that we’ve had some discussion on the original and the whereabouts of the original video was unknown.
Do they have the original?

Just took my little buddy Jack for a night time walk in the snow and when I got home my sweety told me there was a message from the helo pilot. They are seriously debating canceling the Valentines Day research, my guess, because of weather.

Might also be there is really no safe place to land a whirlybird anywhere near the film site. Way overgrown. Not even at Louse Camp. If they were to land on the nearest road/turnout, there will still be a couple mile walk with all the equipment...

Ya know,MK takes some big leaps with his theories, but I think we cannot overlook the fantastic work that he has done on the film. I think he has been misquoted many times and had many of his comments taken totally out of context. Now,do I think that Roger and Bob attempted or did shoot Patty? No way,but I can see where one would look at the bulge and imagine gunshot. I dont know what evidence would be left on site after the massive flooding and the many researchers who have scoured the site completely but it would be fun just to go there and have a good look around. See ya fellas.
