Big Foot changes name to Kooky Canuck

Memphis Business Journal

Big Foot Lodge, a popular Downtown restaurant at 97 S. Second, is changing its name to Kooky Canuck to settle a lawsuit from a California-based restaurant company.

BA2 LLC, which owns two restaurants named The Bigfoot Lodge in California, filed a lawsuit against the Memphis restaurant earlier this year.

The Memphis restaurant, owned by Lana and Shawn Danko, has also changed the name of its signature seven-and-a-half pound burger.

Formerly known as “The Sasquatch,” the burger is now known as “The Kookamonga.”

The restaurant has a challenge where anyone who eats the burger within 60 minutes gets it for free. The winner also gets their picture placed on the wall.

Downtown Memphis Restaurant Changes Name After Lawsuit

Reported by: Joyce Peterson

MEMPHIS, TN - Big Foot Lodge, the Downtown restaurant staple, has changed its' name to the Kooky Canuck. According to The Memphis Daily News, the move comes in the wake of the restaurant’s owners settling a trademark infringement suit with the creators of the Bigfoot Lodge restaurant concept in California.

The Memphis eatery’s old gimmick of challenging patrons to eat a 7.5-pound, more than 12,000-calorie hamburger also is changing slightly, with the formerly named Sasquatch burger now known as the Kookamonga burger.

A Facebook group for the newly named Downtown Memphis eatery already has been formed and as of Friday, December 19, 2008 had about 100 fans.

The lawsuit filed against the Memphis owners of the restaurant, which now has been settled, claimed husband and wife Shawn and Lana Danko inappropriately used the restaurant name and similar design elements, among other things, for the Big Foot Lodge restaurant and bar they opened in Memphis in 2005.
