Teresa and Sean ... thank you for the compliments!
I just noticed this thread. I would sure love to have a sighting and be able to draw what I saw, instead of drawing what other people describe they saw. That would be great.
I don't think any artist gets it just exactly right when they're working with a witness. You're trying to interpret what someone is describing, and even if the person says it' s dead on, it may be that their memory is flawed, or that they THINK it's dead on but it isn't quite. So you're never quite sure if you've gotten it as close as you want to get it because you didn't see it yourself, and you're just going on the possibly flawed memory of someone who may have had only a fleeting glance of a moving target.
As far as having a witness draw it, that's a great idea. The only problem is that most people can't draw well enough to really do an accurate representation. The few that are artists, and do have a sighting, then have the very difficult task of trying to get the image translated onto paper ... the image that they THINK they remember. We don't all have photographic memories, so it's a really difficult thing to ask yourself to do .... to get what's in the brain out there on paper and make it look like what's in the brain ... LOL.
Anyway, I've often wondered if I could stand up to the test of drawing what I saw, if I was so lucky to have a sighting, in daylight, close-up enough to see features. I sure hope I get the chance some day. But whether I could get it drawn with accuracy ... I dunno. I would hope so, but then nerves, soiled pants, shaking fingers, heart palpitations, profuse sweating, and fogged glasses might create some obstacles. I'm just saying .....

Uh .... Sean .... I'm available to work on a sketch if you're interested .... just pm me anytime.
Edited for speeling ...
