Click to view attachmentFound this lying near the tracks. There was a couple of scuff marks on the mountainside about 10 feet from where I found this spine. Does anyone know what animal this could be? My shoe is a size 12. I just ask because a pretty good size black bear has been carousing around our neighborhood. Could this be one of his meals? Anyway, just curious to see what kind of animal this spine could belong to. Peace.

Huh, interesting. Looks pretty good size whatever it is. Wonder if it was prey for that bear?

I thought it might be a dog but I don't see the two bumps on the bones.

The bones look like they are deer because they have a fairly rigid spine, which this looks like, whereas a dog has a more flexible one and would be smaller.

Thanks for the replies my friends. It looks like the consensus tells me its a deer. I was thinking deer or dog but it really didnt fit in with the pics of dog skeletons that I found. Anyway, just thought it was interesting as you usually dont find these sort of things very often. One thing I am going to check(if its still there tommorrow)..is to see if there are teeth marks anywhere. I forgot to check that the other day. Well, take care and thanks again for the replies.

Yep, I'd go with supermodel.
I would have wrongly guessed Lynx sized cat, because the hip bones are so light, but then I've never seen a deer skeleton before.
So supermodel it is, and we'll hear from her lawyer soon.
