I've read about two-thirds of a pre-printing pdf Kathy sent me - it is very enjoyable, and well-worth reading.
Of course, it would be really nice to read it in the form of a real book, but I guess I have to wait for Hancock House to get their act together first.

Yeah, I read it. It's a great book! There are 154 stories from 57 Native Tribes from all over North America. With the stories are historic pictures of the tribal members themselves (or artifacts, etc.). The cover is high gloss and the pages are semi-gloss. The pictures in particular are even more stunning when viewed in the direct sunlight!
Personally, I highly recommend it!
(LOL!)
Edit: Still Paul?? Crimney...

I know who Hairy Man is Teresa, I was just kidding around. I plan on buying it along with the other new one (that Rick Noll read in his tub) as soon as I get around to getting online and ordering it.
I'm a bit of a procrastinator when it comes to spending my money these days.

I have to either get new glasses or slow down on my scanning titles of threads.
I read this one as "Giant's CANNABIS and Monsters".... and thought someone must have got hold of some really bad stuff.
Sounds like an interesting read, and I'm just about done with LMS so it's going on my get soon list.
Ummmm I mean the REAL TITLE not the one I thought it was sounds like a good read.

I had a chance to scan through my copy this morning - Kathy is right, it looks beautiful. Its a pity it isn't a hardback, but otherwise is a great book to read (I had already read a proof), but the photos look fantastic in print.
Well done Kathy, and well done to Hancock House for its excellent production values.

I am contractually obligated to plug the conference at every possible occasion. How'm I doing, Craig?!

I got my copy today and all I can say is WOW!! It looks great Kathy, like it should be a textbook in the classroom. Well excuse me because I have some reading to do right now. I will let you all know how good it is once I am done reading it but I'm sure its great since it was written by our very own Hairy Man!

Nope, my own error....I had the ultimate approval so if I didn't catch something, it's my fault. Sorry Brian (who really is a dear friend....)

Just pretend like you meant it as a compliment or like its a new little nickname for him. He'll never know the difference!

Actually I read the acknowledgements once and never noticed it, the second time I did though. But just barely, its one of those words that you can look at that is spelled wrong but still looks right. Don't sweat it Kathy, it happens to all of us.

Here is my review: EXCELLENT overview of Native American Legends!!!'
This book, which only took me about 3 1/2 days to finish, is chock-full of Native American Legends of the Sasquatch from all over the United States and even a bit into Canada, and Strain writes the book so well that it is a breeze to get through. She has obviously painstakingly searched different databases and historical records and found all kinds of really interesting legends. The result is many tribes having essentially the same legends (with some variations in each), with characteristics such as giants with baskets on their backs collecting wayward Indian children; usage of fire from all the giants; taking Native women as their brides; cannibalism and other traits which match up quite well with each other. I would give this book not 3 or 4 or even 5 stars, but 10!!!!!! I highly recommend this one, which is available at Amazon and also at

Yes, I agree with bf2004.
For anyone who is interested in Native American culture especially, this is the best book I have seen on the subject of how BF legends are intertwined with the mythology.
And, the photographs and text is beautifully done.

All I can say Kathy is WOWZERS!!! Job well done!!! This book is absolutely fantastic and just reaffirms my beliefs that the Native Americans had knowledge of this animal for centuries, if not millenia. The pictures in the book are absolutely breathtaking and the stories are great and also help to explain some of the attributes given to Sasquatch. All I can say is BUY THIS BOOK!! Once again, great job Kathy, it is much appreciated!

I just wanted to add one more thing here that really stuck out to me as I was rereading it yet again, I find it absolutely amazing that throughout all of the tribes in North America that the subject matter is almost universal througout all of them. Not only that, but the attributes, characteristics, and behaviour that is prevalent in reports, sightings, and encounters in our time and age were also noticed centuries ago by all the different tribes. That says something, don't you think?

Once again, great book Kathy. It sits in it's own special place on my book shelf.

Did you mention on the show that you stole all your ideas from Henry Franzoni?
Hairy Man
Apr 7 2009, 03:57 PM
Well no...as I don't have any indication that Henry feels that way!
I do need to make a correction though from my interview. A question was asked about stories of giant bones being found in archaeological sites and I mentioned having seen the ones often referred to from Lovelock Cave. I was wrong - the "famous" ones are at the Phoebe Hearst and not the ones I saw...but are still human.
