Crow Logic
I'm not Crow Logic for nothing. You have to get up pretty early in the morning to outsmart a crow. Seems I had Freezer boy and Island boy pegged pretty good from the get go. Yup another good day to be a crow!

The "reds" of the eyes that some people are seeing sort of...possibly...maybe...look like skin under a mask?

I really don't have an opinion on this either way yet, but I'm just throwing that out there as a possibility.

Chief5, You very well could be right.

If you look closely at the first close up facial picture, the right eye is closed and the area around it appears as though it is blackened to blend into the mask. I am sure most of us have seen this shading done before in old poorly made movies.

In addition the facial picture with the red eye showing has the right pupil almost obscured to the right while the left eye is almost centered. The 'red' area is to the lower inside left where uncovered skin would be exposed if a mask had slipped.

For a group that usually calls bull s**t on everything you folks are sure eating this up. I guess it was the let down from the Georgia fiasco. The desire to believe can be strong, but we need to stay objective.

Looks like I should have read on to the end. 8^)

Although it was a nice effort, I know I was not alone in watching this thread unfold with somewhat less than bated breath. Most people who have participated in this and other forums and mailing lists over the past decade or so are well accustomed to this particular song and dance.

The modus operandi seldom wavers:

1. New Poster says: “Hey Bigfoot people, I have the One True Image and I wish to share it with you.”

2. New Poster often has a tenuous grasp of the English language, spelling and proper grammar are seemingly as elusive as Bigfoot himself. (I believe this is part of the ruse, playing the part of the slack jawed yokel to diminish the idea that HE could perpetrate a hoax.)

3. New poster will almost never be the one who actually took the photo or video. There are always people holding more of the cards than New Poster holds, and he has to fight them tooth and nail to get them to release the goods.

4. New Poster will claim to be computer illiterate and have limited or no access to a computer with a reliable internet connection. This serves several purposes; it gives him an easy out, “my internet connection is down”, it lessens the perception that they may be technologically capable of perpetrating a hoax, and I believe it is a an attempt to show that he is just an average Joe like you or me. “I don’t know how to upload a picture, heck, I’m lucky if I am able to check my email most days.”

5. After posting the first picture, if it is not immediately called out as a fake, then New Poster will be polite and attentive, answering all question posed and monitoring the thread most hours of the day and night.

6. If he is abruptly called out on the first picture, he will get defensive and threaten to leave if nobody wants to receive his true wisdom.

7. After the second or sometimes the third picture, his little game will have been sussed out by one this forum’s stellar detectives, and he will then become defensive and sullen, threatening to put the cookies back in his lunch pail and go home.

8. As an alternative to number seven, he may just disappear; this seems to be the standard procedure lately when hoaxers are called out on the BFF.

This thread followed the above procedures pretty closely. If you look back on most all of the other photos and videos first posted here, I think you will find they all follow the same pattern. I posit that all future hoax attempts will follow the same pattern.

(It would be wise to look for this pattern before making a determination on a photo or video's authenticity in the future)

LOL! Good synopsis. New posters would do well by reading that one.

..and vilnoori, you may want to read from page 20, or so, onward- it's definitely a costume. It would probably make a good read anyway. Drama, excitement, and best of all, a climax.

Well uh, statistically speaking, the odds are on your side..so defaulting to a skeptic's position on any alledged evidence means the probability of eating crow are near 0 whistling.gif

In the end, though, it looks like a fairly well put together ensemble...Ghillie suit (or similar) bottoms, mask pointed out my leemajors on the top, some touch work with the makeup around the eyes...that along with the intermittent posting to build the suspense, & throw in some sketchy story about someone bringing photos by boat (?) and you've got your typical attempt..

Maybe on the next hoax, someone should try a completely different method and not take such a text book approach laugh.gif

We need to pin that and call it the psychological/behavioral profile of a hoaxer...just like cops do with serial killers.

Well I didn't go to the default position. The default position of the skeptic is "there is not Sasquatch so this is a hoax." I thought the photos were decent too. I faulted the backstory. I almost didn't need to see the photos. If it was photos alone it would have been a good headscratcher.

Nice to see how this unfolded. I went off of this thread and to bed around 3 a.m. yesterday morning after spending six straight hours in the forums.

I know that myself and Oregonboom were looking at this yesterday from a statistical standpoint.

As I had stated before and am glad others started cathing on to Tomagami, Lake Temagami's largest island is Bear Island, 1.8 sq. miles. Tomegami stated the day before yesterday in the GA boys forum that this BF was located on an island that was 10 miles in area and was three miles from any shoreline in either direction. Unfortunately through my efforts and those of others, we couldn't find any islands that size within any area even close to the Nipissing District of Ontario.

To top it off, the guy couldn't even spell Temagami right.

What fun it is indeed. yahoo.gif

I think if anything of value comes out of a hoax of this type, it is that we as a community band together, share ideas, speculate, research, and pick these things apart to get to the bottom of every story, picture, video, claim, etc.

I am proud to be part of a community where some individuals share a sense of exploration, adventure, and research. It is comforting to know that your voice; while one of many, is always heard by another no matter how off target you may be and that we assist each other in understanding the basis for all that comes into these forums.

As for patterns to watch for in the future, maybe a story with an emotional hook is one.

In this case, the yarn about the sad, old, trapped bigfoot was a nice touch. Well done, tomagami.

Although I am disappointed to see that this is yet another hoax, I wanted to wade in by saying a couple of things:

One: Sethsquatch- you commented that it looked 'too human' to be a sasquatch- on what do you base this? Is it your experience, or is it because that is the general consensus?

Two: There are some amazing researchers among you, and you all deserve to be congratulated on your diligence, and your attention to details! I am thoroughly impressed! I am glad to know, and happy to be here, knowing you are all so technically minded, and you know the right questions to ask- I'm not so technically minded, and have no idea when it comes to all that stuff!

Although there were a few who said 'after the fact' OMG I can't believe you fell for that...coz like I ssssoooo didn't! I think that (so far at least) people seem genuinely interested in finding/proving the validity of peoples claims- and not just here to poo poo everyone by treating them with disrespect and being so closed minded as to say 'You CANNOT have EVER seen one, because THEY DO NOT EXIST'.

I am aware those people are here- but one day, when a big furry guy comes up to them and scares them out of their pants...they'll become believers too.

You guys handled this hoax with surprising manners- sure surprised me.

Well said. I am be no means a researcher. I really don't have the patiance. Thats why I'm glad I choose to stay around these forums. When I start leaning a certain way (like this hoax particularly) not only do the people here do an awesome job debunking, its the way of manners and professionalism from everyone that seals the deal for me. Hell, they were even nice enough to complement the hoaxer on a job well done! Top-shelf people here. After all is done and said about Thawsquatch the best thing for me that came out of it was these forums. So I think I will be sticking around. Well done people.

Never mind it ended this way, par for the course a lot of time on this Subject & i'm sure it will happen again..It's just that feeling of " this could be it " that we crave, a lot if the time in hope more than actual judgement i suppose, especially in the current climate & hot on the tail of Friday's debaucle..

I thought myself initially that the story was BS ( The " Going back in the Fall " part rang bells with me amongst other things ) but hoped it wasn't & done some hours yesterday in researhing a little on the area & if it had a history of Sightings & you know what, i don't regret it because it turned out to be a hoax, i enjoy it & learn, even if only a little, about places i'd probably never even hear of again in my life..

I still keep the faith too, one day, one of these are gonna be the real deal..wink.gif

Just reading back over the past couple of pages & i think we can safely call this one " The Hoax that was loved by all " !! wink.gif

I noted this earlier. I think this pattern is more of a give-away than the actual mask.

"Um, I'm using a barrowed computer, but I don't know what Im doin and Im blind in one eye anyway. The pictures are coming by Pony Express, and even if they get here, I don't have permission to post them yet, but that dusn't matter cause I don't know how to post. Aren't I great?"

People that have the goods, deliver the goods. End of story.

Choctaw

A decent makeup job would have included covering at least the entire upper face with dark makeup to account for shifting of the mask. Another possibility for the "red" eyes is that the heavy makeup used to create an opaque effect can irritate the eyes. Of course, the makup has to go right up to the eye and even onto the inside of the lower lid to hide a light skin color (if the costumer-wearer is lighter skinned than the mask). In addition to the makeup ingredients possibly irritating the eyes, the method of application could also cause redness if not done gently. Last but not least, there are contact lenses available that would create the effect of reddidh eyes. And if these are stills from a film, it's feasible that the budget included those lenses.

If Crow Logic gets to crow about figuring out the hoax then those of use who got hooked get credit for "going along with it" so the poster could incriminate himself, right? whistling.gif coverlaugh.gif

see this kind of hoax is fine, they had a good story and good a costume, it was kept in house, tricked us, interested us and we're now likley to want to find out more about their project.

the biscardi thing on the other hand went worldwide with no damn proof and has hurt the field as our spokesperson to the average joe is a showman.

it's like somone proving the existance of ghosts...with video evidence but it's presented to the world by derek achora and the most haunted gang.

lame.
Gee4orce
My first gut feeling when I saw that facial photo was "no way". The eyes were just too close together and too small for the head. Witnesses have described BF as having very large, totally dark eyes (ie no white showing) - this photo just looked too much like a guy in a mask looking through eye holes.

For future reference, eye separation is something that would be very hard to fake, at least on video where it's harder to digitally manipulate the image. Eyes are also hard to fake realistically, for instance to have a complete face mask with no eyeholes. I think eyes could be the key giveaway for debunking facial shots.

Human brains are hardwired to see even the tiniest nuances of emotion in a facial expression, so I would say "trust your feelings, they're probably right", at least when it comes to faces.

Don't worry about the folks who are high strung or a bit uptight. We have a vacation package for them that's out of this world, or at least off this forum. wink.gif Just post like he's not here, because..... he's not here.

"marymahas" joined this forum yesterday evening, probably shortly after this "tomagami islands" thing was exposed.

Her "speech" patterns are identical those of tomagami.

And like tomagami, she is telling a tale that nobody else here has heard about, and about which no information can be found elsewhere.

mary (in a couple of posts above):

"You people have been slightly miss led
What you have seen is a combinatiopn of truth and reenactment of a with held
documentry. This is not over yet.
The story of Ben Matine is truly shocking and makes a lot of sensce, Lubbati designs
supplied a stock mask for the HD reenactment of the events that unfolded for
Ben Matine.
It is said the Ontario Athourities conviscated the video tapes and cameras after the Inccodent
and Encounter.
Ben Matine Lost his Mother , Father and wife all in one Year he shot the guy who was responsible for the DUI
(drunk driver) that killed them. The guy didnt die but Matine headed for the hills"

"I have seen a video that was posted that has
pictures of what i saw in earlier posts.
This guy Ben Matine was under the impression he would be wanted for murder
He spent 6 months surviving on his own and almost froze to death.
He agreed to meet with a freind named Jim at an old hunting spot once a month for supplies
and thats where the story really begins."

==================

compared to tomagami:

"I am tryin to get the facial stills from the video
The video is really quite sad, you can see in his face
he is loking almost curiously for help it looks like he
knows he's dieing, or will be dead soon.
He has a curious innocence when he looks back at you
there is a still of his face where he is looking to his right
Ben says he is looking at another and signaling with his eyes
to stay back. That's when Ben dropped all and ran for his life."

"When you see the face the Gill suit will no longer be an issue
I have never been able to get the face out of my mind.
It is truly not a man in a suit trust me It will be proven.
I do Know they made Jim fly to North bay and drive halfway to detour lake
where Ben is, to get a leagal guy to have Ben sign off the pictures and Video tape
Ben is still terrified more about people and the mounties than bigfoot. bigfoot is easy for him to except
Ben is actually more worried he will kill some snoopin around he real is extremly paraniod"

mr monkey
so the movie is about a guy who hides from the law in the woods and gets killed or has some sort of contact with a bigfoot? and in the process he took pics and video of a bigfoot which are now in police custody? just wondering
bcsasquatch
Well now that it's obvious that it was a hoax and a guy in a ghillie suit and a mask, just wanted to say told you so to those who poked fun at my first post here when i said that's exactly what it was an how obvious it was the second i saw the pics. I can't believe people who are regulars on these type of forums and consider themselves well read and some even "experts" on the whole bigfoot issue fell for this. The "i wanna believe so bad that even simple hoaxes will blind me from the obvious" factor was extremely high on this one.

Anyway, i am a bit sad because i would love for there to be a real bigfoot and for solid proof to be found some day, but still, just gotta revel in the moment one last time, so.....
