I've put in place a couple of CPU-saving measures to help the forum deal with what could be a significant wave of visitors as the news of Tom Biscardi's
purported Georgia bigfoot body breaks in the mainstream media. The most obvious initial measure is the disabling of search (including the very useful "View New Posts" link). As the day progresses, we will take further action as necessary, so if you see member profiles, signatures, and avatars disappearing you'll know why.

I have re-enabled search and will be monitoring the site's performance. I may have to turn it off again...

Well, that was a mistake! Took the whole server down...
I've removed search, active users, profile info, and a couple of other random things. The SQL server is getting slammed. I'll be tweaking it here and there for the remainder of the day, but the server can only handle so much. If she pops, she pops.

I removed some features again as the SQL process was choking on all the requests. Also tried to implement a feature that will return a busy status when it gets too hot rather than trying to honor all the requests. Thanks for you patience. This is an unprecedented level of traffic for the BFF...
